Hey guys! Just picked up the "Best of the King of the Ring" blu-ray yesterday and I have to say it's really good! Highly recommended! After watching a lot of the blu-ray it left me wondering just what happened to Ken Shamrock & Marc Mero. Shamrock won the 1998 King of the Ring and then went on to have a GREAT heel run as part of the corporation during the beginning of 1999 including multiple I-C title reigns and a tag team title reign with Big Bossman. After that it gets a little fuzzy for me. I do remember a brief feud with Chris Jericho and then he just seemed to vanish. Does anybody else have any details on this? All I can find on Wikipedia is that Shamrock left in 1999 to pursue MMA again and because of an injury suffered by Jericho's bodyguard Curtis Hughes. Anybody have more details on this? Also, Marc Mero debued in 1996 as "Wildman" and then became "Marvelous" and dumped Sable who was far more popular than him. I thought Mero played a pretty good heel even if his new boxer gimmick left him incredibly limited in the ring. All I can find is that he left the WWF at the same time Sable left and that he had nagging injuries also. Did he walk out because Sable left or was it something more? That's all! Thanks for your time guys! I often watch old footage and question as to what happened to "so and so". Thanks for reading.

Shamrock left for MMA, on good terms I believe too. Always a fan of Shamrock, and like I've said many a time, if Bret hadn't left, Shamrock would have became Champ in late 97/early 98, FACT.

Shamrock came back to wrestling in 2002 and won the NWA World Title at TNA's first ppv event. He stayed with TNA for a few months before dropping the belt to R-Truth.
Mero is some church guy who speaks his mind on matters that don't concern him. He was over rated anyhow.

i remember seeing mero in tna briefly, and i believe he still does indy work. you're also forgetting his time in wcw in 2000. he got in some trouble from people in the biz for his comments on steroid use shortly after benoit's death

Yeah I remember Mero being at one of TNA's first monthly PPV's as Johnny B. Badd.
Shamrock was awesome. Shame he didn't stick around longer.

yeah,Shamrock left cause his contract was up,and he wanted to go back to MMA stuff....it was written that he got injured by Mr. Hughes so he had to pull out of his feud with Jericho....
Mero,he was somewhat decently over, enough for them to give him the IC Belt, but a lot of that was due to Sable...sorta how Macho initially became over because of Liz...then in December 1996 he injured his knee and needed surgery....it was bad enough that it basically took out his aerial moves and he had to reinvent himself as the boxer persona to adopt a more ground-based repetoire....but the problem was,Sable's popularity was eclipsing his,and they had to split them up since Vince wanted Mero as a heel, and Sable was way over as a face....it never really worked out for Mero, with the Marvelous persona (and giving him Jackie for some more heel heat),and in the end he got future endeavoured....

One of my favorite periods in WWF history was late 1997/early 1998 when it looked like BOTH Owen and Shamrock could have broke out huge against DX. Ah, the potential.

Ah, the potential. indeed...BOTH were really over at that time...i mean,at both the Royal rumble 98 and WM 14 Sharock was screwed out of the IC Title, and the fans were PISSED! and Owen, honestly was at his second most over point in his career when he was the "Sole Survivor" going against DX...sadly,they pissed all over that by summer of 98....

Thanks for all the info guys. It's hard to believe that Shamrock was only in the WWF for a little over 2 years. He had a ton of potential. Wish he would've stuck around...
As for Mero...meh.
EDIT: "Marvelous" Marc Mero did have sweet music though!

shamrock's chairshot to the head from the rock and snapouts were amazing moments. he was very over his entire career. i was so happy to hear he was in tna, and even champ, but that quickly dissolved as did many of the immediate tna signings during the weekly era.

I doubt that dude. It was Austins time in 98. Nobody deserved that belt in early 98 but him Bret literally wanted Shamrock Champion, its that simple. Even if it was just Shamrock winning at the Dec IYH and holding for a few weeks, if Bret had stayed, Shamrock would have gotten a run as Champ.

Shamrock said in his shoot that he hated the upcoming incest storyline that was to be between he and Ryan Shamrock.he left on good terms but that storyline was a massive part of it,he said so himself.he said he also became jaded with his spot within the company.
Meros story is a strange one.....Cornette said that Vince wanted Johnny B Badd.but Badd was intellectual property of WCW.he still said he could make it work despite Ross and Cornette warning Vince that
A)mero had been trained to be Johnny B Badd and didnt know how to be anything else. B)he shouldnt have a gorgeous valet and be a face because the fans will turn on him over it.
they were 100% right.to say Mero struggled with his Wildman gimmick is an understatement IMO......Cornette said Vince soured on him almost immediately and it became all about Sable because Kevin Dunne(the unseen power player) was absolutely obsessed with her.
and I tell you this.....when Dunne sees something in someone Vince listens.

Yeah Sable got pushed to the moon. I remember that....
It's almost like they brought back the WWF Women's Championship just to give Sable more TV time.
I TOTALLY forgot about the Ryan Shamrock stuff. What the hell is it with Vince and incest story lines? Give it a rest...it's nasty. For being so smart and successful, sometimes Vince is just...stupid.

Did the woman that played Ryan Shamrock leave the company because of the incest storyline? I remember she joined up with Terri Runnels and Jackie in May 1999 for a couple of weeks or so and she never appeared on WWF tv again.

Ryan Shamrock was hot.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe she is currently dating X-Pac.
