I just finished watching the new Stone Cold DVD and he mentions how he was disappointed he wasn't facing Hogan at WM18. Had Austin faced Hogan do you think the match could have been better any better than Rock vs Hogan? That is the one match I've always wanted to see.
Personally Rock vs Hogan was my fav match of all time so I wouldn't change a thing. I think Rock was the right guy at the time, but the thought of prob the 2 biggest names in wrestling history 1 on 1 would have been awesome.
Thoughts?

I truly don't think it would have made a difference at all to be honest. As much as I like Austin, I think the Rock was the perfect fit for the match at the time. Honestly though, you would have thought the way that things were going especially at No Way Out 2002, that Austin would have went after Hogan the way that the NWO screwed him against Jericho.
Although it would have been a match I think everyone would have liked to have seen, seeing Rocky and Hogan two of the most charismatic guys going 1 on 1 just seemed like a dream match that no fan would ever dare to complain about.

I think it would have been just as good as Rock vs Hogan in every way

yeah good question.......and good idea for a thread.
I often wonder would the crowd have reacted the same way if it was Austin?

It would have been just as good...but I don't think it would've been the same (if that makes sense).
To me, Hogan was more MAINSTREAM with the media, movies, etc.
So was The Rock. More so than Austin. It's hard to debate who was more popular in the wrestling world between Austin and Rock but in the MAINSTREAM media there's no doubt that The Rock was more popular and I think that's why they went with him instead.

Yes, it was a more natural rivalry since they both had Hollywood aspirations. However, I really think the program was changed because of legit heat between Hogan and Austin.

I think the fans would have rooted for Hogan regardless who he fought. Canada really did bring Hulkamania back

I think everybody was just so happy to see the nWo and Hogan especially back in the WWF. It was pretty surreal stuff. Jerry Lawler still considers Hogan vs. Rock to be the favorite match he has ever called from the announce table.

I suspect if we did get Austin/Hogan at WMX8, the theme would probably more aimed towards: Who's WWF biggest ever star? Both would have good claims. Hulk built this house vs Austin saved this house sort of thing. Would love to have seen it, even though Rock/Hogan was immense.

I think the best would've been Austin/Hogan at WM X8, Rock/Hogan at WM XIX (Instead of No Way Out 2003) and somehow have Hogan/Vince at WM XX. In the very end, I think it would've made a lot more sense to have Vince/Hogan at WM XX, since it was on MSG and "where it all began, again".

I think the ending would be poop - I can see it in my head now, Hogan selling the stunner poorly.

It would have been a better match, and a bigger moment in time. People will always cheer Austin more than The Rock, and Hogan more than either of them.

nope, rocky carried hogan during a lot of that match in terms of keeping the level of energy up. it was a good mix that worked. austin was near run down at that point.

i think it would have been a let down to be honest.
Austin had no interest in working with Hogan and Hogan was more interested in promoting himself. i'm pretty sure this was when Austin was going through a bit of an awkward phase (didn't he walk out of WM after his match with Hall?)
There was a thread a while ago about dream matches and we all have those that we'd give anything to see but i think this is one that is better off left to our imaginations.

Hogan vs. Rock was the right move, that's for sure.
I think Austin should have faced Triple H that year in the main event at WM 18. It seemed when Triple H came back, the WWE had forgotten about the '2 Man Power Trip' team that Austin and Triple H had back in early 2001.
I think if Austin faced Triple H in the main event, then that Wrestlemania would have been perfect. Nothing against Jericho, he is one of my favourites, but he and Triple H just didn't do it for me that year at Mania as the main event.

It probably would have been the worst reaction Austin would have gotten that far into his career.

I liked Rocky mixing it up with Hogan. Hogan vs. Austin would be a pretty big generation match up. Seeing Hogan dominated the 80s and Austin did the 90s.

Rock vs Hogan was awesome for what it was, still Hogan vs Austin is something we all missed out on. Not at W18, but just in general.
