I'm not too sure about this, but kick pads are the things which makes a kick sound when you hit an opponent, because I remember one episode of SD! John Morrison opened up his kickpads or something because he had hurt his leg.

I've noticed mainly indy-based guys use kick-pads. Why, I don't know.

Kickpads are awesome, got a pair years ago when I was doing Martial Arts. They really do protect your shins, no matter how hard you kick.

I've noticed mainly indy-based guys use kick-pads. Why, I don't know. For a lot of them it's probably cause they use a lot of kicks as part of their offense, for others I honestly think it's become a trendy look to have them as psrt of your gearC

There was a time in wrestling a few years ago that wrestlers looked down on those who wore them and didn't kick. Like if an indy wrestler just getting into the business wore them for fashion or because he thought it looked cool, and he didn't do kicks as part of his arsenal, then the workers would look down on him for it. I remember hearing that years ago, I am not sure if I heard it from actual indy wrestlers I know, or if it was in someone's shoot video.

It's from the commentary from Low Ki vs Sami Callahan as I remember it.

They also protect the other guy from being busted open if the kicker's tibia actually connects with his opponent's face/forehead. That can happen from time to time.
