When WWE bough wCw they only got 23 contracts and we all know who they were and why some got taken and others didnt. Now if there were not any issues with the wCw guys who are you 23 that you would have hired.
Mine would be
1 Goldberg 2 Diamond Dallas Page 3 Sting 4 Scott Steiner 5 Booker T 6 Chris Kanyon 7 Buff Bagwell 8 Sean O Haire 9 Chuck Palumbo 10 Shawn Staziak 11 Crowbar 12 Mike Awesoem 13 Lance Storm 14 Mark Jinrake 15 Vito 16 Johnny the Bull 17 Billy Kidman 18 Chavo Guerrero 19 Brian Adams 20 Bryan Clark 21 Torrie Wilson 22 Rey Mysterio 23 Stacy Kibler
I think the invasion would have been better with these guys.

The thing is...EVERYBODY eventually joined WWF with the exception of Sting.
I think that's why a lot of people are so hard on the Invasion angle. If they would've been patient and drawn it out longer it would've been so much better once Hogan, Hall, Nash, Steiner, etc. joined.

Yeah it was just rushed into.
They should have worked with the smaller names that they used for as long as it took to secure the nWo and Goldberg.

Is the "Invation" angle anything like the Invasion angle that happened in 2001??

I for one enjoyed seeing the wwf squash wcw into obscurity, a company that once tired to put my beloved wwf out of business. As they saying goes to the victor goes the spoils =]

To this day I still say that Vince could have made the Invasion Angle work w/ the guys he had. Booker T and DDP were essentially at the same level of popularity that Hall and Nash where when they went to WCW in 1996, so had they been portrayed as equals to the WWF's top guys, like they should have, the Angle could have worked. Jeff Jarrett's contrct was also aquired but Vince didn't take it because of personal problems, but that would have been another top name to add to the WCW side of things.
Lance Storm had been recieving a huge push and was an upper mid-carder when WCW was bought. Had he been portrayed right he is another name that could have been big on the WCW side of things. Mike Awsome had been misused in WCW, but fans still bought him as a top threat, and after his awsome debut(pun intended), he could have been big, but Vince burried. Rhyno was getting a nice push but couldn't get a win over the WWF's mid-carders like Kane and Jericho. Had he been given a win or two he could have been a top guy as well.
RVD was the ONLY guy to come from WCW or ECW and be used right during the whole thing.
Had everything been done right, the Invasion Angle could have strecth out until other WCW tops names could be brought in. The nWo could have been brought in by No Way Out, Bischoff, Steiner, and Rey Mysterio by the spring, and possibly Goldberg would have signed a year earlier than he did if everything was going right. Lets also not forget that Sting said himself that he would have joined had WCW been portrayed as equals.

ok doke heres my take on it.
1)stepanie and Shane should have been kept out of it.
2)Vince should have canned half the jobbers he employed from WCW.
3)ric Flair who was available and willing should have been brought in to front WCW.Rock should also have been brought back earlier to confront this collossal threat
4)Goldberg and Steiner who were willing should have been bought out and alongside a non buried Booker and DDP would have been plenty of muscle
5)WCW win at Invasion but its Jericho that turns.he still could have feuded with Rock afterwards.main event should have been Goldberg and Steiner vs Rock and Austin.Invasion did a massive buyrate-imagine what this would have done.
6)Lance Storm should have been utilised as an upper mid carder in his canadian superior gimmick and put to work with the American Hero Kurt Angle
7)the feud carries on all year but Austin and Goldberg should never meet until WM18 where its winner take all right through the card.all title unifications take place here.
8)the nWo and Bischoff turn up the night after Mania and ruin Vinces victory party.Waltman and Wight who have both been off TV rejoin the nWo over Vinces treatment of them.maybe have Steiner join them too.
9)everyone reunites against them.a returning HHH and HBK ignite a scalding hot feud with Hall,Nash and waltman
10)Sting returns to aide Vince against the poisonous nWo
pure fantasy I know but man it would have been awesome.

Goldberg was sitting on a huge contract from Time Warner and was never interested in working for Vince while he could sit at home for the same money. He only signed with WWF when his contract with WCW was bought out by Time Warner.
Also the Invasion angle is easy to book with hindsight, when Vince bought WCW I doubt he ever thought he would be able to get Hogan, Bischoff, Nash, Hall, Steiner, Goldberg, Mysterio & Flair to all work for him within the next 12 months. So booking it with a year long story arch would have been really difficult in June 2001.
The poor booking of Booker T & DDP I bet Vince would address also if it meant Sting would have considered signing for him.

Goldberg has stated that he was willing to talk, but due to his TimeWarner contract, Vince wasn't going to do it. W/ Sting, he has said that he was in talks w/ Vince, but after he saw how poorly Booker T and DDP and WCW were potrayed, he didn't trust Vince and didn't sign.

Yea, with Sting, I've read the same story many times by many different people. Sting was originally supposed to debut at WMX7. Austin would have done the whole heel turn, and at the end the lights were to go off, and Sting was to be lowered from the ceiling into the ring. This allowed Rock easy exit, and given a true big name face for Rock to fued with.
No idea if its true or not, but if it is, would it have made WMX7 even better than it actually is?

i always thought the original idea was to build the WCW brand up again and pull the trigger on an invasion angle once WCW was considered a threat, so to speak.

I have never heard that rumor. I'm not saying it isn't partial fact but there is NO WAY that WWE would or will ever be lowering anybody from the rafters after the Owen Hart tragedy.

That is definitly not true. It was cool to watch the invasion angle play out on TV, but it was also pretty weird seeing how most of the WCW/ECW team was made up of long time WWF talent. It just completely killed it. It kinda said to me that not only did Vince want WCW to lose the invasion angle, but he was going to embarass them by using his own wrestlers to play the WCW part. The Invasion and the Survivors Series PPV did a fantastic buy rate at the time, so it was a short term success. If Vince pulled one of Goldberg, Sting or Hogan, i think the Invasion angle would have been much better. While i love DDP and Booker, DDP was in his mid forties, and Booker was a fairly new main eventer. Both were not threats at all. Did anyone seriously believe DDP, Booker and an assortment of midcarders and jobbers were gonna take out Austin, the Rock, Undertaker, Kane etc. ??

DDP's age had nothing to do w/ it as he was still able to put on good matches. When he was in his prime in WCW, he was believed to be on the WWF's top guys level as he was constantly in matches w/ WCW's top guys like Hogan and Goldberg. Vince was probably the only person at the time who saw him as only a jobber to his stars.
Anyway, nobody expected just Booker T, DDP, and a bunch of WCW mid-carders to take out the WWF, but we didn't expect WCW to get jobbed out like it did. When Booker and DDP debuted in the WWF, they were around the same popularity as Hall and Nash were when they debuted in WCW(DDP possibly being more after being in matches w/ Hogan and Goldberg and teaming up w/ guys like Jay Leno and David Arguette). The differance is that WCW portrayed Nash and Hall as equal, if not better, than WCW's guys, and the outsiders angle got over. Vince portrayed Booker and DDP as jokes, and the angle bombed.
Also putting long-time WWF guys on the WCW side didn't help things. Guys like Jericho and Big Show should have gone to the WCW side because they had been there just a few years earlier. Austin made no sense, and having WWF mid-carders like Test and William Regal portrayed as better than Booker and DDP, both true and over WCW main eventers, was wrong. How Vince never saw that IDK.
Booker T, DDP, Mike Awsome, Lance Storm, RVD, The Dudley Boys, and Rhyno, paired w/ former WCW guys like Big Show and Jericho, would have worked had WCW been portrayed as a real threat instead of jokes.

Took about the course of 7 years to finally get about almost everyone who was in WCW in 2001 - It took a long time for the Cruiserweights especially.
