Just wondering if it was ever addressed why the WWE refused to give Kurt the time off he needed in 2006? Considering he was one of their top stars and still the best wrestler on the roster, it still baffels me that they refused to give him time off to heal up and to fix his pain-pill addiction. I remember it being a huge shock when the WWE announced that he was released out of the blue.
Anyone got any info on this?

Yeah I think it was a cheesy announcement but I've always questioned why they let him go. It seemed like he was with WWE for about 10 years but actually he was only there for 7!

so many different stories regarding this-and you just cant believe a word that comes out of Angles mouth concerning it-he changed his tune several times.
I never heard they refused to let Angle take time off-I always thought it was because Angle wouldnt go to rehab for his pain killer addiction and they had no choice but to release him out of genuine concern for his condition.

Yeah, that "they wouldn't give me time off" was likely just Kurt Angle telling his Hogan-esque lies. They gave Benoit about five or six months off that year. I recall WWE actually pulling Kurt Angle off of shows (like one time he was meant to have a triple threat ladder match with RVD and Sabu, I think), and the stories online at the time were that he was demanding to wrestle and arguing with management because they wouldn't let him.

i read that they did it for two reasons:
firstly they were genuinly concerned for his health.
also his backstage behaviour was being compared to that of wrestlers who are no longer with us! i don't think the WWE would want another situation like that so soon after eddy guerrero's death.

Thanks for the info guys. I remember the whole thing being confusing since nobody really gave us a straight answer. Then Angle being announced as going to TNA just made the whole thing even more confusing.
I think I also remember him being upset at the time that they had placed him on ECW. He wasn't a fan of the origional show, and he also felt like they were moving him down to the "C" show.

I remember there being a lot of talk about Kurt Angle being on "death watch" before his release.
In all honesty, it may have just been the fact that WWE didn't want another name on the active roster to die under their watch.

I don't think it was ever clearly specified. But only one can assume that he was going over the top. I mean the guy one the Olympic Medal with a broken neck! He just doesn't know when to call it quits. He's always in 5th gear going a 120 mph at everything. You gotta love the guy, but you have to know that injuries and things he was probably use to are your body telling you specifically to take time off.
He's just a nut honestly. Since he wasn't willing to work with them and go to rehab and such I would assume is the main reason.

I remember being so shocked when I read he was going to TNA.
It's a shame because I reckon if he'd stayed the centre piece of ECW it wouldn't have taken the turn it did.
