I do a lot of searching online (ebay mostly), at flea markets, yard sales, whatever, looking for cheap lots of Hasbro, LJN, and AWA Remcos. I use them for customs, to fill holes in my collection, or to upgrade a piece if it looks better than one I already have.
I've noticed that just about every time I look I'm sure to find at least one of these guys. I've labeled them "the common of the common". I am interested to see other people's lists to see what they've noticed to be the most common when searching.
LJN- Hillbilly Jim. Actually, Ricky Steamboat seems to be catching up with him lately for some reason, but I see ol' Jim pretty much every time I look. Of course, almost always without hat.
AWA Remco- Larry Zbyszko/Rick Martel. Strangely, as everyone knows, these two were packed with Ric Flair and Baron Von Raschke respectively, but seem way more common than their pack-mates. Zbyszko was released later on (although with white jacket) in a pack with Bockwinkle, which could explain why he shows up more (even if the white jacket usually doesn't). I know the Martel and Road Warrior packs were produced in far greater quantity than the Fabs and The High Flyers, so that could explain it.
An interesting side note that a lot of people don't seem to pick up on, but if you've got a sharp eye you'll see it pop up pretty often: After the production on the High Flyers set was halted, Remco painted the leftover Brunzell heads with black hair and released them as Rick Martel! Look at ebay auctions and you'll see the "Brunzell head" Martel pop up every so often.
WWF Hasbro- Demolition Smash. You could go ahead and make this a three-way tie with Jake and Brutus #1. I see Smash all the time, but Ax doesn't show up nearly as often. I figure this is some sort of cosmic "makeup" by making Smash so much easier to find than Ax when Smash was the one left out of the last LJN set. Of course, Smash was released in tag team form with Crush, so there are naturally going to be more, but as I recall from looking for them as a kid, I still saw more Smash than Ax in the stores back then.
So, how does everyone else's list differ from mine?
