The IC title. Everything about the angle bothers me to this day. I'm watching her match with Y2J from Smackdown in 99 from the 100 Smackdown Moments DVD set and I just had to voice this gripe that I've had for awhile and see if anyone else agrees.

Ehhh...an experiment?
I'm still not sure what her role actually was really. She started out as Triple H's female bodyguard and she looked overly muscular and (dare I say) manly. Even as D-Generation X evolved she showed very little personality.
Then there was that angle with "Sexual Chocolate" Mark Henry trying to get with her and she got all kinds of plastic surgery done and actually sort of got over.
Then she was IC Champ. Then she was managing Jericho. Then she turned on Jericho and managed Eddie. Then she was Women's champ!?!?
What a mess.

Besides, I don't think her winning the IC belt was the biggest blunder of the attitude era, do you?

I don't think it was the WORST thing nah. (Mae young and the hand anyone?) I just didn't like her having the IC belt, or even wrestling men for that matter. As far as Austin turning heel, I like parts of it, like him siding with Vince was so out there it was kinda cool and it produced some funny moments. What I didn't like was him turning on Vince and going with the alliance, I thought that was so stupid |

Turning Austin heel at WMX7 & siding with Vince was ridiculous after feuding with him for nearly 3 years. Then on RAW the day after WMX7, teaming with HHH and forming 2 Man Power Trip after Tripper had masterminded Austin being run over by Rikishi and had a bloody feud for 3 months beforehand was beyond moronic booking.
Biggest blunder with Chyna was booking her as heel manager to HHH who was No.1 heel in 1999, but then having her as a face at the same time facing Jeff Jarrett. WTF?

Turning Austin heel was a great idea, since his character needed it IMO, but how it happened is what messed it up. They should have never done it in Austin's home town. They were going to cheer him no matter what. Had they done it anywhere outside of Texas, him shaking hands w/ Vince would have been almost as big as Hogan turning heel(not quite on that level). Turning Austin heel in Texas was a dumb idea, but turning Austin heel was not.

I agree in part that it did freshen up Austin as a heel and the way it was done was garbage. But Austin was still over huge as a face in 2001, and I live by the old adage, that you only turn someone when the fan reaction dictates it. They did it to great effect with The Rock, Stone Cold & Bret Hart in 1997 and should do it now with the super stale Cena.

to turn Austin heel,they should've turned him back int othe OLD Austin of 1996/1997...DTA, didn't care about anyone...
right after Vince helped him win the title at WM X7,he should've stunned and beat the hell out of McMahon,too...
next night on Raw,come out and give the heel promo - he just used Vince to get back the only thing he cared about,the WWF Championship..F- Vince, F- The Fans, he doesn't care about anyone or anything,and he'll destroy or maim anyone who gets in his way...finish it off with him stunning Debra,and saying he just used her,too,in his plot to get Vince to have her manage the Rock to mess with his head,too...

He'd do whatever to be champion including siding with his biggest enemies in Vince and Hunter. And had Hunter not gotten hurt it would have led to Austin being so paranoid that he'd even turn on H. And say what you will about Alliance Austin, but I absolutely loved it. One of my favorite heel runs in history. Plus the fued MADE Kurt Angle.

i was actually completely fine with chyna's involvement in men's matches and recognized it as simply the gimmick attention that it's meant for. she wasn't a terrible worker, either.

I loved heel Austin. Hated him from '98 up until his heel run because he was an overpushed babyface superman, much like moody "rebellious" teenagers nowadays hate Cena. But when he turned heel and needed hugs and played guitar, I loved it.
As for Chyna as Intercontinental champion, doesn't bother me at all. She was at that level of popularity at the time.

see,i HATED the whole singing and hugs and comedy things...to me,that played completely against Austin's character,whether as a hell or face, up to that time...theis was a guy who was the Rattlesnake and an SOB,and suddenly he's playing the guitar and singign songs...WHAT?
he other ruining part is,of course, joining the alliance...considering he was legitimately fired by WCW back in 1995 ,he really shouldn't have been made to join those he despised...just made no sense...

The only thing I really disliked about Chyna was the fact that they made her and Jericho co-champions.
Besides that, I think she was pretty impressive. I couldn't imagine anyone else wrestling men (even Beth Phoenix). She was at least believable, in my opinion.
