15 years ago today, Hulk Hogan dropped the big leg on a fallen Randy Savage and turned heel at WCW Bash at the Beach 1996, revealing himself as the mystery partner of Scott Hall and Kevin Nash.
The crowd showered the ring with debris. The New World Order -- and the "Hollywood Hogan" persona -- were born.
This was one of the biggest angles of all time in terms of the ripple effect. Not only within WCW, but the impact it had on the WWF once WCW established a solid lead in the Monday Night Wars ratings. The WWF was forced to try new things and step up their game, and the result was the Attitude Era.
Thoughts?

Had WCW pushed other of their stars, like Malenko, Guerrero, Raven, Benoit or Jericho, they probably would still be here today. The nWo was an amazing idea, but sadly, they couldn't come up with another one.

ah the memories....
I remember watching this in 96.I was stuck to the floor.I didnt even hear Heenans infamous tell.
I had thought for sure it was Bret hart.we hadnt seen him since WM12 after all and this was July-I thought he had surely left WWF just like Hall and Nash.
The nWo was great and yeah WCW was red hot in it but the mishandling if Stings return was the start of the rot.....even though 98 was red hot for WCW their product had no forward planning.
98 was series of hotshot booking that worked really well then but when it was over?same old same old.
stark contrast in the booking in 96/97 to The Fingerpoke of Doom on Jan 4 99.

WCW had all the great superstars but used like crap but when the WWE got them they gave almost all a good push. It's just like TNA now, great superstars but they give them such terrible pushes, yet the older guys get super pushes!

I didn't get to see this live, I was a kid ha. But when I did start watching wrestling in 2002, I had the nWo "Back in Black" VHS and saw this moment, it was also on the "Hulk Still Rules" DVD. I was always a fan of Hogan's WCW run, but I wasn't a big fan of this era. Don't get me wrong, I loved nWo Hogan, but I was a big fan of his 1994 stuff, and his later stuff (1997-1999). A monumental moment in the sport though.

another thing people underestimate in this time was Waltmans push in WWF.
guys like Jericho,Guerrero and benoity seen the much smaller waltman in and around the main event/upper mid card all throughout 98 and 99 and thought to themselves Ill have some of that.
Waltmans push got a lot of guys thinking in late 98.......

A moment in wrestling that no doubt will never be repeated, in terms of how the business was at the time and the outcome that followed...including the death of kayfabe.
