I will never in my life get why hardcore holly gets so much hate. I always loved his work in the ring, and she seemed to get better with age. Loved his match with RVD. During the attitude era he didn't mind sacrificing his body in hardcore matches and his gimmic was a badass redneck, sorta like Stone Cold. Now I understand he shouldn't of been as big as Steve Austin but I just don't get why he seems so hated.

Yeah Ive always liked him.
Heard he worked really stiff in-ring though especailly on newcomers.
Not the greatest guy outside the ring (rumor) but I always liked his work and image.

I thought he was boring . Plus after hearing all the bad things about him and how he was basically a bully backstage and a dick to fans it affected how I felt about him. Same thing goes for JBL.

nevber minded Holly in the ring but his backstage antics are a different story..... take Public Enemy in WWF for instance......Holly and JBL(who viewed themselves as Vince loyalists was bisch after them?NO.)took it upon themselves to harass Public Enemy because they signed with WCW in 95 instead of WWF.of course it was nothing to do with Holly and JBL wanting to hold onto their tag positions.......and who could blame PE?they went for nearly twice the cash. cue PEs push being diminished and eliminated.it should be noted they tried similar tactics with the Dudleys but by that time Vince knew he needed to jizz up the tag division with new guys. pity he didnt wake the up when PE were getting harrassed.and yes this story has been confirmed by guys who liked and disliked PE.

The guy was always average in the ring IMO. And him being a total jackass for real didn't do him any favors. He literally beat the crap out of Rene Dupree for real and his broken neck from Brock Lesnar was just as much his fault as it was Lesnars, considering that Holly purposly dead-weighted him.
In the backstage, he was known as a bully and was eventually fired for stealing things from the other guys. He was also given a shot at the main event w/ his feud w/ Lesnar for the WWE Title in 2003/2004 and bombed horribly. Holly is not a legend.

Persona:
Zero charisma. Poor mic skills. Average, at best, in the ring. It also didn't help him to have poor gimmicks.
Real-life:
Overly truculent. Stupid enough to actually try to shoot on Brock Lesnar.

I used to think that he was a jerk back in the day with his handling of new guys.
However, I look now at some of the new guys and their immediate expectations of greatness without paying dues-let's take Any from NXT for example.
Now, years later, I see he was actually ahead of his time, making the new jacks pay their dues prior to acceptance in a business that is built on hard work and proving your self as a draw.
He took the business personally and maybe if more followed suit it would be in a better place now.
Good topic, thanks for posting this.

He wasn't bad in the ring apart from being stiff, just not the best out of the ring!

I have an interesting story......somewhat offensive, so i apologize for the content matter.
At over the edge 99 in Kansas City, Al Snow and Hardcore Holly had a Hardcore match for the title. As they were making their way up the stairway in the crowd, someone near them began to cheer "HARD-CORE HO-MO". And apparently we were in a festive mood that night, because the next 5 minutes was an arena-wide chant of "HARD-CORE HO-MO."
If I remember, he won.......so I suppose the joke was on us.

The fact he wrestled Brock for the title at the Royal Rumble still makes me laugh. I guess rewards come from sandbagging.
