Same. Crash is more of a legend than Bob Holly is.

Yeah Holly is known for being very stiff in the ring with rookies or somebody in the back the boys needed taught a lesson.

Bob is one of my favourite veterans. I'm sad he isn't on the active roster anymore.

I met Holly at an autograph signing in 2001, he was pleasant.

He just has that look that screams, "I'm better than you" when he's really not. Also, extremely boring.

I used to think that he was a jerk back in the day with his handling of new guys. However, I look now at some of the new guys and their immediate expectations of greatness without paying dues-let's take Any from NXT for example. Now, years later, I see he was actually ahead of his time, making the new jacks pay their dues prior to acceptance in a business that is built on hard work and proving your self as a draw. He took the business personally and maybe if more followed suit it would be in a better place now. Good topic, thanks for posting this. I agree. I know that the business has changed but back in the day you had pay your dues in WWE for a while before even thinking about winning a title. So far, Barrett, Otunga, Mcgullicutty, Gabriel and Slater all won belts in their first full year in WWE. That is very early in a career. Daniel Bryan is an exception of course. These days, a lot of guys are put on TV when they are not ready either as an athlete or as a "entertainer". That is why you could hear a fly fart when you watch NXT. Most of those guys aren't ready to be called up and don't connect with the audience... Jacob Novak anyone?

The beat down on Tough Enough was uncalled for. I understand his reasoning was to see if Matt would keep going and it proved Holly's point when Matt got second thoughts but it just wasn't right.
I do however agree with the attitude that the newcomers don't earn their place like the older guys. So many of today's upper mid carders (the stars like Cena and Punk could do well in any era I think) would be losing to Barry Horowitz or Brooklyn Brawler in the 80s and 90s. There's just nothing there of interest other than a new era where major stars even in the mid card are present.
Maybe if a wrestler or singer (like on American Idol) or other talent (America's Got Talent) has the ability and it's their dream they can see it through and be stars but the show basically hands it to them if they can go through a few weeks of training. Their stardom is a product of the times of reality TV. Actors, singers, wrestlers from the past are products of hard work and talent paying off.
I don't think Holly was a star or anything but to get on a spot in the card (low) he had to put in years of effort and be stuck with horrible gimmicks that writers should've known would go nowhere. Maybe if he had the Hardcore Holly gimmick in the 80s or 90s and never had the driver or Midnight Express knock off gimmick he would've been like a Bad News Brown (who so many think was the originator to Stone Cold) or he could've been on Stone Cold level in the mid 90s.
