I was watching an old episode of Monday Night Raw from December of 1996 on Classics on Demand and Flash Funk had his debut match on Raw. Watching his entrance and hearing his music now got me thinking. What exactly was the basis of his character? With the outfits and the music it almost seems like Flash Funk was a pimp before the Godfather. It's like Flash Funk was the PG Pimp. Thoughts?

Yeap that was pretty much the idea. this was during that time where Vince felt that everyone needed some sort of over the top gimmick to get over. Guys like, Stone Cold, Bradshaw, The Rock, Farooq, Barry Windham, all fell victim to this during this era. As the attitude era was slowly beginning and WCW was becoming huge. Vince started to see the characters needed to be more real, which is what Stone Cold was doing. Which was the route guys like the Rock and Farooq would end up taking.
The newer gimmicks in during the attitude era were more topical and edgier and it fit the mold. Edge, Val Venis, The Godfather, were gimmicky but still realistic.

I always thought of him as a knock-off of a member of the P-Funk All-Stars (George Clinton, Bootsy Collins, Kidd Funkadelic, etc.) than a pimp. That's just me, however.
Big fan of 2 Cold Scorpio/Flash Funk, by the way.

yea, he really reminded me of george clinton.
felt that him and farooq were both heavily misused.

he changed the P from Parliament to Pimp But seriously, I hated that gimmick more than most of the goofy gimmicks of the time. but I guess that's mostly because 2 Cold Scorpio was one of my favorite wrestlers during that time.
