Two questions
1. Why was Texas Tornado Kerry Von Erich's career in WWF so short? What is the story behind his run with company? I mean they obviously saw enough in him to make him WWF Intercontinental champion, so..what happened? 2. Where did the rumor that Jim Hellwig had died and the Kerry Von Erich was the Ultimate Warrior come from?

I think #2 is from their similar builds, hairstyles, and attires, more specifically, their boots.

Such a shame As far as the Warrior rumor, I remember being about 3 or 4 years old and always thinking that the Texas Tornado and the Ultimate Warrior were the same person, but the Warrior only turned into the Tornado when he had his face paint off haha

One of my true heroes as a kid, I consider him a all time great who never really reached his true potential. If I am honest during the era he was in the WWE I don't think he would ever have been world champion but he would have been in the upper mid card for a long time.
At my first ever house show in 1991 in Glasgow he wrestled the Warlord and it is one of my fondest memories as a wrestling fan. There was a local market when I was a kid and it sold all the USWA video tapes and I had one called the best of kerry von Erich. he was on most the USWA tapes that I had.
I had little interest in other wrestling as a kid I was a WWE fan I sometimes would watch WCW and had most of there figures but I would not say I was a fan. But for some reason I would watch whatever video tapes of Kerry Von Erich that I could get at my local market.

Yeah Tornado became one of my immediate favorites when I first saw him, and I still like him to this day.
As far as his derailed push goes, I believe it came down to two things: one was he apparently couldn't cut a promo to save his life, and they often had to do 10-20 retakes just for him to get him right.
And two, unfortunately he had huge drug problems which often led to him being unreliable, not able to perform properly, etc. I think the WWF obviously saw a ton of potential in him and kept him around for as long as they could, but they just couldn't depend on him.
One of wrestlings biggest tragedies, in my opinion. If he had his stuff together, I'm pretty sure he would've been a main eventer back in the early/mid 90s.

yeah, drugs sadly derailed his career and push...what i find mystifying is that he had these massive,well-documented problems PRIOR to joining the WWF ,yet they still took him on....only thing i can figure is they got him treatment and sobered him up before he debuted, but then he fell back into the lifestyle...
there's a very sad,yet morbidly funny story Ric Flair tells in his book about having to defend the NWA World Championship against Kerry in the mid-80's...first they couldn't find Kerry cause he was asleep in his car...then he spent the first 10 minutes or so constantly rolling out of the ring looking for some girl he was was hot for in the audience....then he started doing moves to himself, with no one there, most famously a small package in the middle of the ring, rolling up an invisible person for the pin while Flair stood in the corner and watched....

So he wears a mask, so people won't know it's him. But he still wears a jacket with "Kerry" on the back of it?

Vince and the WWF officials probably didnt care about the drug problem because in those days coke was easier to find in the back than a bottle of water. Kerry was a star without the WWF behind him, Im sure they just had the blinders on and hoped he could draw them some money.

It's weird, because that seems to be the conventional wisdom... drugs were prevalent in the WWF at the time. If not coke, then certainly painkillers, sleep aids, and the ever-present steroids. Yet shortly before Kerry Von Erich was hired, the WWF fired Tully Blanchard for testing positive for cocaine. There was about a 20-year stretch (late 80s through late 2000s) where the WWF was so on-again, off-again with their vigilance about drugs that the only difference between a guy getting away with it and a guy getting suspended or fired seemed to be "wrong place, wrong time." Same with the time when Warlord, Davey Boy, etc. all got in trouble for steroids at the same time. It wasn't that the WWF took forever to catch them, it's just that they happened to still be with the company at one of the times when they cracked down hard.

Poor Kerry.
honestly he was in a mess most of the time he was there and I belive Somas were his flavor.
so many stories about Kerry being hardly able to stand so many nights, having to be removed from cards, taken off flights etc etc.
plenty of drug users then but they were obviously still able to perform

You just mentioned why a lot of guys who worked for McMahon from the mid-80's till about 1992 are now dead. One reason why a lot of perfermers used drugs was to soothe their injuries. Look at some of these guys who wrestled hurt. One such example is Mr. Perfect. As for Kerry Von Erich, his lifestyle is what bolted him down to his downfall. Drugs played a major factor why he never went anywhere. The WWE took notice and didn't give him a major push to the top. If he would have changed his lifestyle, odds are he would still be alive today helping out the current crop of wrestlers.
