For those who watched back then, did you get tired of seeing Hogan as champion after a certain point? These days people are bitching because John Cena has held the title for almost a year. I can imagine how bad it would be if he held it for 4! Anyway, did you or anoybody you know complain when Hogan was champ for so long or did it not matter because he was the man?

I was real young at the time so I really couldn't tell you what I was thinking at the time. To be fair, there wasn't PPV every month or 2 weeks. Also, take into account there wasn't a Monday Night Raw every week. To compare the two of them would be like comparing an Apple to an Orange.

I'll be honest with you I was iffy about it. Some things he did make me love that he was champ and other things he did made me hate him

Wrestling is a different creature now.The fans want to see their Favorite as the Champions.Hogan was THE MAN.At that time there was noone else really IMO that could be world Champion. After his first title loss there were alot more contenders for the World title.Thats why his reigns were not as long.

Wrestling was a lot different in the early 80s. There was not a PPV every month or a live two hour show every Monday. I don't think by any standards was Hogan's reign boring.

But Cena is hated by so many fans whilst Hogan was the biggest face of that era & no-one wanted to see him lose, plus as mentioned above there wasn't the TV/PPV schedule that we get now which meant it didn't have the same effect as Cena being rammed down our throats.

Back when Hogan was a champion, he was booked as a champion. He wasn't on the program every week and PPVs were a few months apart, so when Hogan appeared on TV it was a big deal, and you would watch because "Holy crap! The champ is going to be on this week!"
During Hogan's run they would build up to appearances by the champ, now it's the opposite and the champ is the most seen character on the show.

Well, WWE wasn't milked around on two weekly television programs and monthly PPV events back then, wasn't it?

Times were different back then. Hogan very rarely wrestled on TV, except for Saturday Night's Main Event. So, when he did wrestle, it was a big deal. Also, on quite a few of the PPVs in that time period, the belt wasn't even defended. Hogan wrestled in a lot of tag team PPV matches. Hogan was booked very well.

Exactly .......I remember Hogan holding the title those years not very well but thats when I actually fell in love with wrestling .

I'm 27 years old and I'm guessing that back in the 1980's I would have hated Hogan's reign just as much as I hate John Cena's reign right now.
But....I was a Hulkamaniac back then and I loved watching Hogan bury the competition just as the youngsters today like to watch John Cena beat the odds every time he wrestles.
And talking about Hogan...has anyone ever actually thought about the laundry list of guys he went through in his first title reign...
Randy Savage Paul Orndorff Greg Valentine Jesse Ventura Brutus Beefcake Big John Studd Terry Funk King Kong Bundy Dr. D David Schultz Kamala Sika "Handsome" Harley Race One Man Gang Iron Sheik Nikolai Volkoff "Cowboy" Bob Orton Don Muraco Masked Superstar Andre The Giant
Looking back, I'm really glad he never got that clean win over Piper.

nope, Hogan was my favorite wrestler for the first 5 years I started to watch wrestling (started about age 2 with my dad). I was a small child when hogan was the champ, and at that age you never get tired seeing your favorite wrestler win time after time.

I hated Hogan as a kid so I never wanted him to have the title.
