All AOL issues aside, the finger poke definitely ruined a whole hell of a lot and is a great example of terrible booking and a stupid obsession with heel turns. To try and repeat Bash at the Beach and that sort of reaction clearly only sent everyone away.
You could've built the WolfPac even further and Black and White even further, sent them away, brought them back, all kinds of things without changing them so drastically. The idea that everyone would've reacted well to an nWo supergroup is narcissistic and stupid. This, coupled with that being the focus instead of an even distribution sent it into the madness it fell into.

94 when hogan signed the contract. WCW was pretty good top to bottom pre-hogan signing 1994. I really liked the Dangerous Alliance (Rick Rude was amazing then) vs Sting, Steamboat, Dustin Rhodes and the Liger/Pillman fued. Plus Flair, Luger rotating between WWF and WCW,etc. edit: also Vader vs sting and Cactus Jack was awesome Granted there was obviously some highlights after 94 and Bischoff/Hogan,etc put WCW in the same ballpark as WWE so I'd go with Starrcade 1997 as the beginning of the end for WCW.

it's ironic that the one PPV concept (created by Dusty Rhodes) that really put Crockett's promotion on the map as being an innovative company in '83, would be the very same PPV that spelt the demise of the organization if we agree that Starccade '97 was a turn for the worst.
The nWo was over-booked and Vince Russo should be banned from this business. I don't know why he's still employed and doing the same crap to TNA 10 years later.

They never should have made everyone in the company, at some point or another, a member of the NWO.

The reason I stopped watching WCW was because of the NWO, sometime in 99. I don't remember which PPV just made me say ' this", but for some reason, Spring Stampede or Road Wild come to mind. It was when the NWO was getting really annoying to me. I was fine with them all through 98. In 99 though, all the WCW guys had won all the titles back from the NWO, it was a big deal. I remember DDP getting quite the push around this time. But the VERY next PPV after WCW won all their titles, NWO won every single one of them back the next month. It annoyed the crapout of me. It's at this point that I started watching WWE, the first episode I started watching that again, 'Chainsaw Charlie' came out of a box and teamed up with Cactus Jack, I think going against the new age outlaws. And every single time I turned on WCW from that point, I was just disappointed with everything that was on the show. From Goldberg getting electrocuted and losing his first match (very stupid) to Glacier losing his entrance music, giving it to someone who didn't matter at all. Hogan starting a feud with Kidman. Rey Mysterio losing his mask, the Filthy animals, 3 count were around sometime at this point. Juvi (one of my favorite people to watch) started acting like 'The Rock', calling himself 'The Juice'. Dr Death and 'J.R' ( I wasn't watching WCW at this point, but I flipped to the channel, and they were on it) same with ----> Crowbar, David Flair and Daphney were all annoying, although David Flair was around for quite sometime before those 3 started teaming up. I didn't know about the finger poke of doom, Hogans firing, Vince Russo or any of that stuff until years later, whenever youtube started to get popular. But everything in that last paragraph should have never happened.

like I said earlier the rot was setting in in 98 lads.
1)Sting was made to look completely out of the nWos league after beating on them for a effin year...Sting was just another wrestler come April 98.hottest comeback in wrestling pissed on.
2)loads of really popular stuff in Summer 98 with Rodman,Malone,Leno etc all featuring-fun in the shirt term(and clearly very popular-BUT they had nothing to proceed with afterwards.also the ridiculous expansion of the nWo was nuts
3)Bret Hart in the midcard....as a heel.working for the McMahon of WCW in Bischoff.Jesus wept......whose idea was this?
4)Sting Joins the nWo......WTF?I know it was Wolfpac but still-made no sense at all.but at the same time I dread to think what would have happened to him if he hadnt.would he have even been on TV??
is like I say once the nWo civil war wrapped......that was it.yes I believe Nash when they say they a Austin vs Corperation scenario in mind with Goldberg and the super nWo Wolfpac but clearly that didnt pan out.

I remember thinking him being in the Wolf-pac was cool for awhile. But I don't remember anything that happened much in that little stable at all. The only thing I remember from that time is Sting taking off the NWO shirt to reveal that he was in the Wolfpac..and that's all I remember of Sting doing anything. I know he started talking a lot more, but I can't remember any feuds he was in with.
The last feud I remember that Sting had, besides Hogan, was Scott Hall for the World Title at Uncensored 98. I don't remember much of Sting after that. Besides the Wolfpac..

That is insane to me, thinking back, Sting was their selling point and most popular star. Maybe around that time, Goldberg was the biggest face, but to think that Sting left around that time is just, what? why? I didn't notice that back then, but thinking of it now (other than maybe Sting wanting time off) is just strange, considering it wasn't much later that WWE started dominating. And what they did to Sting's character when he came back was just stupid. I remember Sting against Vampiro, and Vampiro was no where NEAR Sting's level, much like Kidman wasn't on Hogans level.

like I said earlier the rot was setting in in 98 lads. Yes It became apparent in 98 but the moment in time to prevent the "rotting" was Starcade 97.

how about the terrible decsions to cut Stunning Steve Austin, and Cactus Jack, and mean Mark Calloway? had they known how to use them (which steve and jack had shown they could do stuff) it would have been different. not saying WCW would have been able to bring out stone cold, but the wwf would not have been able too either
WCW had a series of poor decsions regarding talent...hell, wasn't Paul Levesque in WCW for a while?

94 when hogan signed the contract. Um no. Hogan was one of the major factors in WCW's boom. Take hogan away and WCW would have remained complete shit. how about the terrible decsions to cut Stunning Steve Austin, and Cactus Jack, and mean Mark Calloway? had they known how to use them (which steve and jack had shown they could do stuff) it would have been different. not saying WCW would have been able to bring out stone cold, but the wwf would not have been able too either WCW had a series of poor decsions regarding talent...hell, wasn't Paul Levesque in WCW for a while? Stunning Steve and Mark Calloway Paul Levesque were not the same as they went onto be in the WWF. These people were all made into the stars they were by Vince Mcmahon. not to mention they brought Edge in briefly as jobber talent... Same as above really.
