SummerSlam '92, Bulldog vs Bret, is one of 10 greatest matches I've ever seen. It set Bulldog apart because it showed that unlike most jacked-up bodybuilders-turned-wrestlers, Bulldog was athletic.
His European title loss (and the manner in which he presented it) went a long way in establishing HBK & DX as loathesome heels. Fine work on Davey's part.

Fine work on Davey's part. yeah that was a crazy night and the inside story is a hot one too.Davey Boy NEVER lost in the UK.but Vince came to him and asked him to drop the title to HBK.HBK convinced Vinnie it would add tension to the feud with Bret and that he would drop it back to Davey Boy shortly after in a one sided match..... Smith objected strongly to this because of genuine tension between he and HBK but agreed because he was promised by McMahon he would regain the title in convincing fashion shortly after. obviously that never happened Vince reneged on that promise big time.I also read that DX were NOT supposed to interact with Diana after the match... but did so anyway and there was trouble backstage afterwards oh 97 was one hell of an interesting year

top thread +1. yeah I always liked Davey Boy.when I was young his Hasbro fig used to kick all kinds of ass in my Hasbro fed.come to think of it Id like a Mattel defining moments BB from SS92. its such a pity that he got caught out with roids in November 92.the sacking of Warrior and Bulldog effed up Survivors 92.....and it kinda effed up DBS career. I feel he was headed for big things because Vince was very high on him after the massive success that was Summerslam 92.his WCW runs were outright disasters though werent they?the 2nd one in particular because it ruined him physically. I enjoyed his return and subsequent heel turn that he then stuck with until Survivors 97......his outing with Bret hart at IYH5:Seasons Beatings and HBK at IYH:Beware Of the Dog were great IMO. Bret's book actually reveals Davey's post-Summerslam plans. After he lost the belt to Shawn in the fall, he was actually supposed to be the first guy to feud with Doink the Clown. Story goes, however, that Davey felt the clown gimmick was silly and wanted no part of it. He was released shortly thereafter. So going by that logic, Davey was to play the role that inevitably went to Crush.

He was not really feuding with anyone in particular. He did have some television squash matches (non-title), but nothing else.

I always marked out for Davey...I still think the British Bulldogs are possibly the best tag team ever. I also marked out huge when he was in the Hart Foundation....I loved when Davey&Owen were the tag champs. His matches against Hitman at SS 92 and in 1995 at IYH were awesome

They called Luger the Total Package, but that title only every suited Davey Boy.

Davey could and should have been world champion, for a british wrestler to be SO popular is incredible, in 1992 Royal Rumble, the crowd literally moans with dissapointment when he is eliminated.

Davey Boy could have been a great champion, but he was too immature with his personal life and sometimes green in the ring. Smith's athleticism was off the charts, but the fact that he had to be babysat by Bret most of the time probably didn't help his chances.
Someday he will be in the Hall of Fame I'm sure, and he really does deserve it.
