Now something I've been pondering over for awhile is how come the WWE doesn't buy the USWA video library? They don't own it correct? I just don't see how Vince could invest so much time into the company during there cross-promotion and not want the video footage from it. Whats everyones opinion on this?

From what I've read, the ownership of the Memphis wrestling library is a confusing mess. Jerry Lawler, Jerry Jarrett, Cory Maclin, Randy Hales among others all seem to own some of the rights to the library. As far as the physical tapes are concerned, some are probably still at WMC TV (in who knows what kind of shape), some are probably in the King's basement as for the others, who knows? Some have probably been destroyed either by the time or on purpose. I'm sure that Vince would love to get his hands on that library but this one is quite complicated to get together. The Mid-South/UWF is another library whose ownership is complicated and that Vince as yet to be able to buy.

yup thats correct.Memphis ownership issues are legendary.its as stated above a multi claim mess.
awful pity IMO because theres some damn fine material on there....no effin doubt.
not having UWF and Memphis footage must be a choker for archivists in WWE.

I could have sworn he was married when he was inducted in the HOF and he was obviously on good terms then with the WWE and close to one of the head guys in Jim Ross.

Vince as the loot and as the Million Dollar Man says, "Everybody's got a price". He needs to get it done.

If it were reasonable, I'd own some Mid South dvds. Didn't TNA use some of their footage on their dvd's showing Jeff Jarret and Cactus Jack? Texas USWA and GWF are slightly different, that's why there are a ton of budget DVDs featuring matches from them. But back to Memphis, I wish WWE could get all the rights. I still don't know what's going to be on the Jerry Lawler dvd. But WWE has used some Memphis footage here and there, though no full matches, so who knows.

the whole thing is confusing, i could've sworn wwe had some kind of former deal with lawler when the uswa was on it's way out.

Both TNA and WWE have shown some Memphis stuff on dvd. On Shawn Michaels documentry styled dvd, there is a brief Memphis promo clip shown. TNAs Jarret dvd shows MUCH more in depth Memphis footage, including Jeff Jarretts pro debut. I don't believe there have been any Mid South Coliseum moments shown, just studio Lawler has mentioned that the original Memphis (pre uswa) videos were taped over every week for the new episodes. Jim Cornette has had to furnish his own personal copies of the shows to talent who wanted to see the shows they worked or relive classic Memphis moments. While the ownership is convoluted, the fact that most footage is gone or left up to folks who taped the show every week,is the main reason Jarrett nor Lawler have a lot to offer WWE or TNAs library. And this is the biggest obstacle in the proposed Lawler dvd from WWE. A lot of Kings early rivalries wouldn't be on it. Savage,LeDuc,Hogan,Flair,Andre,Bockwinkle,Dundee,Gilbert. None could be showcased. I bet they could probably get the Kaufmann stuff from his estate, and his AWA and World Class appearences. But most of what makes King the "King" would be lost for now.
