Can someone please answer this for me? After a certain point (mid-1993 maybe?) Yokozuna wore red tights with a black mawashi..and never wore any other color combos. WHY?!?!?
I know this is stupid, but this has always bugged me.
On a less than stupid question, what was your favorite match involving Yokozuna? I loved Yokozuna squash matches so his PPV debut match at the 1992 Survivor Series against Virgil is always a personal favorite of mine.

Certain tights just work for some people I guess, I wish I could give you a real answer...
My favorite Yoko match was the one he had with Taker at the Rumble...And for just sheer shock I'd say the one he had with Austin at the Summerlam pre-show...his weight was OUT OF CONTROL

As it was mentioned, certian looks work for certain people. I loved his Casket Match with Taker as well as his match with Bret at WM10 for some reason.

I hated the fall off the second rope and get pinned finish. Did it really hurt him that much falling that short of a distance?

I'm guessing it had to do with marketing "his look" for merchandising. Plus, white made his ass look really fat.  Hogan used to wear many variations of colors before settling on the red & yellow (seems like after WMII he always wore it). Yoko and the WWF probably looked at all his outfit combinations and agreed to stick with the red & black. I know I liked it best. I enjoyed seeing him win the title at WMIX...only to lose it seconds later! I also liked seeing him squash Hogan at the King of the Ring rematch! I was at the SummerSlam in Cleveland when the rope broke against Austin...didn't see that one coming. Good call on him technically holding the rope! Wars |

Yoko gained somewhere between 150-200lbs in his first 3 years in the WWF. I know what forced him to wear a different mawashi than he was wearing in late '92/ early '93. It could be that his white tights no longer fit at some point. It is such a shame that Yoko's weight ended his career and subsequently his life. When he was at his Kokina Maximus weight, he looked a lot like Umaga: large but not unhealthy looking. I even remember a match where he sprinted across the ring with surprising speed. |

He used to have large amounts of padding to make him appear fatter. Eventually they no longer needed it. Then around 1996 he turned huge. Sad

BTW This month marks the 10th anniversary of his untimely death. My favorite Yoko match is his 2nd WWF title victory over Hogan at King of the Ring '93.

I might have answered this question totally wrong here but at 93 Rumble i do believe he wore White tights with black sash And i maybe wrong but i never once saw him wear the attire from the Hasbro figs ?. If someone can clear me that up. I mean his first figure. Surporting Black tights and red sash. On a personal note i can't wait to see how good Mattel's Yoko will be i hope he has robe and is in his Red tights black sash attire.  |
