*Self High Five* So I was thinking earlier about guys wasted in WWE and Page comes top of that list. He got buried by Taker then went right down the card to the meaningless European Title. However at least he left of his own accord. His WCW run was pretty good with his 3(I think) World title reigns. Its a pity his career didnt start till he was quite old. Anyways thoughts on DDP? and remember its not a bad thing, its a good thing

I loved DDP in 97/98-loved his feuds with Macho Man and Hulk Hogan during this time.also loved his feuds with the nWo outside of these 2
after that?not so much though.was crushed at the way he was presented by WWF.....I was hoping for a Austin/DDP feud.

DDP was my favorite wrestler around 96-98. His fueds with Savage, Hogan, and the NWO as a whole. Him dressing up as La Parka to get the win over Savage on Nitro. Bringing in Hennig to help take down The Outsiders. I was on my feet for the entire title match between him and Sting, even though we all had to watch it on Nitro.
Now his WWE run made me furious. There was no way an average fan couldn't get behing WCW's version of DDP. Why WWE was so determined to make their own character out of him, I'll never know.

Totally overrated and undeserving of the honor of having been a former World Champion, let alone a multi-time champ.
I did not like him as an AWA manager, WCW Manager either, and he totally ruined the Freebirds for me.

I was really suprised when he won the WCW at Spring Stampede 99. But I must say, I always enjoyed his time in WCW. Didn't like the way WWE used him and also felt that TNA could've easily made him NWA champ during his time their instead of Jarrett holding the title for those 6 or so months he did.

the stalker angle wasn't very good, but the motivational speaker gimmick was fun... And it was all his. He's talked about many times how he came up with the idea and wanted to show off his teeth after the surgery.
Also, he didn't leave of his own accord. He left because he broke his neck which effectively ended his career, barring a few appearances here and there.

He got the loudest pop when he revealed himself to be the stalker.

Bad tattoos, awful hair and invisible eyebrows. He wasn't known for his wrestling ability, that's for sure. I have no idea how he got such a push in wrestling. And having him & Oliver Humperdink join The Freebirds was about as enjoyable as a 20 minute bass solo. Hell, he even ruined "The Devil's Rejects" for me. Now all we get to hear about is is "yoga for guys". Ugh. You're from New Jersey. We know. Now shut up and go away forever.

DDP deserves it, he has great charisma, a bad ass look and just overall great presence. He worked hard to make it as a wrestler and I'll always be a DDP fan.

I think it was how he connected with the fans and related to the with his appearence. Back in the 90's you could get away without being a flashy guy with matching everything and highflying moves. Around 97-98, there were hundreds of people in the crowds who were just like DDP. Tattoos, crazy hair, and loved to talk. He was just one of those guys that wen tout there and fought his way through every match.

So did Lex Luger but it took the big boys getting out of the picture for both of them to hit their ceiling. Ive got nothing against DDP but really he got his big push when guys like Hogan, Sting and Flair were pushed to the side. He had his big feuds with Jeff Jarrett, Vince Russo, David Arquette and Eric Bischoff. I was much more interested in DDP when Hall and Nash were recruiting him to be in the nWo. If he would have joined then, donned the Diamond Logo tights with a white stripe around the top and maybe nWo above the diamond instead of DDP. I would have marked like a biatch

I like DDP but if you look at the ratings for Nitro after Spring Stampede 99 where he won the belt, it really shows that they lost a lot of viewers who never returned. Granted you can't put that all on Page but it's still pretty damning.

Back in 96, I thought DDP was going to be the nWo's 3rd man (before Hogan was revealed) since he previously teamed with Nash when he was Vinnie Vegas, and managed Hall when he was the Diamond Studd. DDP deserves it, he has great charisma, a bad ass look and just overall great presence. He worked hard to make it as a wrestler and I'll always be a DDP fan.
