Anyway, I'm wondering what it really takes to build a picture federation? Now I've read some of the recent classic variety that has been brought to the board which is why it has drawn my interests. I've been a text fed writer since late 2002, and with all my years in experience with that type of federation style. I was wondering how much text goes into a show to make it a good "picture" show? I recently retired from the text board but of course I still pose and play with my collection. So my question to all of the experienced people what makes a good show?
Is it really more of a picture sense where every move needs to be shown? Or could it be the biggest move's of the match could be done with pictures and the rest written in? Of course, written promo's with pictures as well. And would you welcome anyone new to the board? Or is it a "tight family" like it is on many other sites and message boards.

To answer your last question first, I feel I can say all active pic fedders would welcome some new blood to the board! We've gone through some changes recently and we are looking to recruit some new pic fedders (see my stickied contest announcement on the main pic fed page). What makes a "good" show to me is a show that reminds you why you liked wrestling in the first place. That's very different for many people, and a large part of that probably depends on when you first started watching. I like WWF style matches, promos and vignettes. Some like the fast paced indy-style. Other like hardcore bloodbaths. I started watching around WrestleMania I, and was hooked on the WWF. I try to write my shows to 'feel' like they are around that time frame (though it's flexible) and use the main cast of characters from that era. I think if people dig the feel it leads to a positive feeling of escapism, especially if you don't care for today's product all that much. Plus, you know the saying, "write what you know." This is true too, I know I couldn't begin to make a show based on today's wrestlers/characters, or an Indy fed, etc. Stick with what you know. Personally, I think good writing makes up for so-so or even poor camera work. I try to write good commentary and lay-out (what I think are) fun and exciting storylines, so they can help cover for some poor posing (like a terrible victory roll I just used in a match, ugh.) So I'd say writing is key to a pic fed, but that's my opinion. I've also seen shows that've blown my socks off that had no feud build-up or storylines and so-so commentary that had PHENOMINAL poses and camera work. Those are pretty rare, imo. Just my rambling thoughts. Wars

Well, I've been itching to do a ECW 96-98 style federation, although I'm not one really to stick with the same cast of character's so to speak. I've always been fond of bringing different elements into a show so to speak. Like for instance, I would keep everything very true to it's order but tweak the storyline a bit to add someone else into it.
A little back story about myself, I first got into wrestling watching WCW and with all the references of another "hardcore" promotion I started tuning into ECW on a weekly basis and I watched WCW and ECW every week until WCW started to basically fail and once the ECW main eveter's traded ship I started tuning into WWF on a regular basis.
I would love to come aboard, let me get my new arena together and do a test match and see what I can do and get some criticism on the match and storyline I'm trying to portray and we'll go from there if that's alright with you?

Of course it is, we are open for everybody! My only suggestion is to find some way to make your fed different from the rest and people will soon pay attention to it. Good luck! Wars

Of course, everyone is welcome. It takes some work doing a pic fed so brace yourself for that

As just starting up myself it definitely is a lot of work but if you have some spare time(which is a big problem to find the time) it can be a lot of fun. Start by putting your arena together and see what you want to do. I really only enjoy classic wrestling but do what you would like. A fantasy wrestling league would be cool with over the top characters but you would probably have to make a lot of custom figs. I might try that one myself someday. It ends up being a lot of fun when you see your finished product. Welcome aboard.

welcome to the greatest hobby in the world.
Wars hit the nail on the head though, commentary/writing is key. Make us want to read it
