Summer of 93 was all about the Lex Express for me and I remember it fondly to this day.
Lex Luger is one of my all time favorites. I liked his interviews and his look and his uncanny resemblance to Macgyver. I remember watching him on talk shows and the clips of the Lex Express on WWE each week all summer. I still can't believe that after all that buildup he did not get the belt!! I was disappointed and still am. They really should have let Lex have the ball and run with it. I had nothing better to do that summer but watch wrestling so I will always call Summer of 93 my Lex Express summer. It was a summer of great memories for me. Lex Express Luger was my favorite time in his career.
Do you remember the Lex Express?

Yes I was in shock when he won by count out!! I still can't believe it! It was a massive build up to nothing. It had to be the biggest push in the history of wrestling that led to nothing. It was one of the biggest pushes in the history of wrestling and it may have even been the biggest push in the history of wrestling.

Was a little young, didn't catch his WWF stuff till I was older. I watched him more in WCW. I do remember seeing him slam Yoko though, that was definitely epic at the time.

At a WWF television taping before Wrestlemania X, Lex Luger stole the WWF title from Yokozuna and went to the ring to celebrate for the audience. Since this was to air after Wrestlemania it was thought that it would be used after Wrestlemania and that Lex Luger would win the title. Apparently Bret Hart was going to originally walk out of Wrestlemania X though and the whole Lex Luger tv taping was a swerve from the start. However, Lex Luger was also going to win the title at the event. The original plan was that Lex Luger would pin Yokozuna in the first title match and then Bret Hart would pin Lex Luger in the second and final match. However....Lex Luger got drunk the night before Wrestlemania in a New York bar. The next morning an article in a New York City paper was published by a reporter that was apparently in the bar with Lex Luger. The article said the whole plan of Luger beating Yokozuna and then Hart beating Luger so WWF officals decided they needed a new plan and punished Luger by not giving him the title.

Yes but the Lex Express was all about Summerslam 93. Not about Wrestlemania 10.

Yes, I remember the Lex Express and it ran out of gas at The Palace of Auburn Hills in Auburn Hills, Michigan. All the weeks and weeks of build-up and promos and touring across the country and all that for a ing count-out??!! Wow...Just a massive waste of time, effort, money and of course, gas. If I were the driver of the doomed Lex Express, I'd demand my gas money back. LOL. I still laugh at the celebration at the end with all the babyface wrestlers coming out celebrating with Luger and having all the balloons and stuff falling from the ceiling and Vince saying on commentary that Luger did the impossible by beating Yokozuna by a ing count-out. I think "Iron" Mike Sharpe could've beat Yokozuna by a count-out, so Luger's win at SummerSlam 1993 was beyond pathetic.

From what I remember, the original plan was for Luger to win the title and be the new face of the company. However, upon seeing Luger's work ethic, particularly at house shows, Vince quickly changed his plans. I can also recall comments about Luger being dedicated to maintaining his body but being apathetic towards improving his mic skills/move set. I'm not sure how much of that was the reason for his diminished role over the next couple of years.

Gah the Lex Express was a desperate attempt to get Lex over with the fans, and it didnt work all that well. His mic skills, one dimensional wrestling and general attitude made it impossible for the WWF to get their new nr one babyface. He had a great body and strength, but time and time again that clearly wasnt enough. Tonylentelli might disagree with me here though;) And yeah, the whole count-out-win over yoko made no sense what so ever and made his push absolutely worthless.
