Have to agree with several of the posters here. If you get into collecting these for the value, be prepared to be disappointed. There's always going to be something new that comes along that's "better." When I collected starting lineups back in the day, mcfarlane came along and blew them out of the water. Sure, it sucks at the time, but you learn from it and it was a good lesson for me to learn personally.
The best approach is to enjoy them for your own personal reasons, and if they're worth something, it's an added bonus. I've got an entire loose wwe hasbro collection and I wouldn't trade it for anything in the world because of the memories they stir up. A few of them (green cards) are worth quite a bit, even loose, which is cool. Others are not. Either way, they mean a lot to me ... if you like the jakks figures, continue to like them. or if you like mattel better, get them too and/or sell the jakks ... enjoy the fact that awesome figures are coming out and WILL be coming out for years to come, instead of not any longer so what you already own will go up in value. trust me, it's more enjoyable that way.

If you like a figure and think you can afford it why not buy it. Simple as that. I wont be buying every legends figure just the guys that I was a bigger fan off. And if I already have a jakks figure of them then I wont buy the mattel one unless is alot better ie. Jake Roberts. But ill pass on guys like george steele, slaughter, orndorff etc

It's just the nature of the Beast, man.
Best bet it to try to get rid of your Jakks to someone who has no interest in Mattel. The longer you wait the more those collectors will come around, and your market gets smaller.

Every toy series I've ever collected the vaule is high when they're new and unless there is a consistent high demand for a certain figure, they all in time go down in value.

I've said it before and i'll say it again. If you got into collecting wrestling figures for secondary gain for in hopes of having a valuable collection then perhaps you got in the game for wrong reason.
I collect them cause I love the product and love to have a 4 dimensional representation of my heros.
My only complaint is they don't fit well next to Jakks figures. But the transition from Jakks to Mattel is much better than the transition from LJN to Hasbro or Hasbro to Jakks. This is kind of like a hasbro to Just toys bendems transition. Only much better.

^^ but there are many people that are telling you what they think.. to most people who collect , its not a "profession" its a labor of love.. we dont do it for the possibility of gain... YES its cool to know you have a collectors piece that is worth money, but for me its a pride thing.. i WONT get rid of my toys for cash. NO matter how hard up i am..

Hey Frankiethewop....I do get your point. In fact, the whole reason I'm writing again is to stand up for you. You have the right to feel frustrated. My only point was that, in general, toys are a poor investment. Simple as that....but I am aware that things can sometimes come across harsher than they are intended. ( Which is why I mentioned I wasn't trying to be a smarta#@ ) With that said...I do take exception to "dr" calling you an egomaniac. It was uncalled for and childish. In addition to that, I noticed he mentioned that Jakks had been stealing his money for years. Funny, I don't ever remember Jakks coming into my house and holding me up at gun point. As a matter of fact, I only recall driving to TRU and happily plunking down my cash for the figures. Perhaps "dr" should worry a little bit less about calling others out and take responsibility for his own actions.

I agree with the basic idea behind this topic. I don't care about money from resale, but I do feel ripped off in the sense that I spent money for something that we now see could have been done so much better. With Jakks you got the impression that it wasn't feasible to make new molds and accessories. Clearly it is. Seeing how great the Mattel figures look makes it feel like a complete waste when I think about all the attention I devoted to Jakks' inferior products.

True they are toys. Thing is though, they are marketed as "collectors items", so therefore one expects some value from them. Afterall they are priced higher too. This is your problem right here: A profound misunderstanding of what a 'collector toy' is. It is, ultimately, EXACTLY what it sounds like. It's a toy for a person that is discerning. Someone that collects toys and therefore demands a higher quality of toy. THAT is why they're priced higher. Better articulation/poseability, better paint applications and attention to detail, and so on. Whereas children's toys tend to suffer in all these areas, 'Collector' toys understand that their primary market has a higher standard. But in the end, they're toys. And while people do collect them MOC - the general assumption is that they will be opened and played with/posed (otherwise, articulation would be pointless). Nothing about 'collector' product implies 'investment.' They're there for you to own and enjoy. Not to accrue value. Anyone that expects to get retail price back on a collection of toys is, to be kind, something of a moron. Like 1% or less of toys, and only those kept MOSC, retail their value after a period of years. Even months. And there's usually contributing factors as to why such items retain or gain value. I understand your frustration. But ultimately, the fault is entirely with you for not understanding what you were buying. There's really no cause for you to complain about it now. That's like me crashing my car and then complaining that Pontiac didn't warn me that cars can be slammed into things if you let go of the steering wheel. No offense intended, truly. Your complaint here is just entirely without merit. And I, for one, am extremely glad that someone is finally making -good- Wrestling toys. JAKKS figures were garbage. So I hope eventually Mattel makes every character/attire that JAKKS ever did, so I can have a truly great-looking, IN SCALE collection of wrestlers. But hey, that's just me, and I buy toys because I like toys. I certainly don't expect to get more than a couple of dollars per figure if I decide to sell any of my MANY toys someday.
