This is why I'm tired of seeing guys from the same time frame. There are Attitude Era wrestlers, WCW and ECW guys also, since WWE owns them, that could be made in this sort of "Superstars of the past" IE "legends" as WWE calls them, whether they were legendary or not.

I know how you feel mate, I stopped collecting a couple of years ago now because I couldn't afford to keep throwing money at toys I looked up in my loft the other day at my figures and thought to myself "There was once a time when you were the cusp of wrestling action figure brilliance, now you're laughed at for being out-dated and inaccurate". I feel the same way when I look at my PS2.

To be fair they are toys and shouldn't be collected for future value. I mean yes some will go up but in reality you shouldn't expect them to.It kinda gets to me that i bought certain Jakks figures and MAttel made them so much better.

Wait twenty years when everybody doesn't have their Jakks collections anymore..... Then they'll skyrocket!

I understand your point, but if you're buying figures based on what their value might be, go buy Barbies. I don't mean that to sound like a smarta#@, I just mean that Barbies and GI Joes are proven long term commodities.....wrestling figures aren't. I collect both Jakks and Mattel, but I do it for the fun of it. I know they will be worth squat down the line.

Now I really hope that at some point the WWE stops making Classic/Legends figures all together, to preserve some value to them. You think Vince McMahon cares about the value of an action figure his company produced 5 years ago? No.....of course not. He cares about the value of the figures on the shelf right now because those figures make him money. If you're buying action figures for a long term investment, you probably should go take some financial courses at your local community college. They're toys...not stocks or bonds.

True they are toys. Thing is though, they are marketed as "collectors items", so therefore one expects some value from them. Afterall they are priced higher too. The point of my post wasn't hoping to earn a fortune someday. I think most would just like to get back retail price, which unfortunately most Jakks figures won't get you back what you paid! I also agree they are stuck in the late 80's/early 90's time period. They could be making guys like Headbangers or The Godwins but it seems they do not have any faith in names from that era selling well to the masses. Those names also had many figures during the attitude era which may be another reason why they see no reason in making them. They are not old enough yet either, or would have the same appeal to the average shopper like a LOD repaint would. Exact, they're collector items, not investment items. Bonds, Stocks, CDs, etc are things people invest in to have a higher future value. Toys are not. At best, toys are very short-term investment commodities which need to be sold quckly of shortly thereafter.

Toys haven't been a good investment since the mid 90s when people decided they would be.
It's similar to the comic book boom
That said, I don't intend to sell my toys, so it doesn't matter. I'm just excited about how amazing the new Demolition figures look.

I dunno, I really dunno.
A lot of people on this board freak out when they see a video of a little kid bashing a wrestling figure against the floor and claim "How can he treat his toys like that!?!", still there is a lot of behavior that seems very similar, though in a different context.
Jakks made wrestling figures for many years. Now Mattel does them as is turning out an impressive product. Yet, why does that have to mean that all of the sudden everything Jakks ever did sucked sour frog ass?
I don't think you guys remember toy lines where you had 2 or 3 major good guys and 2 or 3 major bad guys and that was it, while with Jakks you saw hundreds of different figures for your collection, not counting variants and stuff.
You can't look back and say "Hey, Mattel is the now, but, man, Jakks sure gave me years of wrestling toy fun for what they managed to do in their time."
I have a storage shelf next to my work desk with 8 Sterilite crates loaded with wrestling figures Jakks made. I buy Mattel now too, and I think they are doing an AWESOME job. But I still look at my crates full of Jakks toys (including the new TNA) and say "Wow, when would I ever have thought that I would have 300+ wrestling figures to collect, play with, enjoy, collect, etc."
Is Mattel doing a better job than Jakks? Yeah, maybe. probably, but that doesn't mean that Jakks is worthless now. Those Jakks figures you collected, bought, looked for, hunted down, traded, didn't they give you fun, entertainment, excitement? Is all that worth nothing now?
If you like cars and you had a piece of crap 80's car that was the first car your dad got you, and it was the first car you got laid in, and took your buddies to an AC/DC concert, now that there is a nicer, better, fancier car out there, that old car is worth absolutely nothing to you? Not even for the memories and the fun had?
If all you guys that collected Jakks for years have - now that Mattel took over - are regrets for what you purchased before and is now of no value whatsoever to you, it's really sad, cuz you are going to feel the exact same way with whatever may come after Mattel.
Me, I'm gonna keep buying my so called crappy Jakks, and those awesome Mattels, and enjoy them both the same.
Just my two cents...

I think anyone who collects toys just to sell them at an inflated price later kind of deserves to have the market bottom out on them. They're not bonds. They're to enjoy, not to hoard until the value goes up.

Why do so many people seem to want to make a quick and easy buck? How much is this worth? How much will this be worth? Everybody wants to sell some figures on Ebay and retire? Get a time machine and go back to 1978 and buy Star Wars figures if you want big toy money. Or if you really wanna make some cash, sell drugs or something illegal, that's where the real money is. You can't get high on toys, ya know.

To me, my collecting isn't with the intent of value or selling, but because I love certain wrestlers and eras and want the figures to commemorate. I can understand wanting some maintenence of value, but to me, if Mattel wants to re-do an attire and do it better .... go for it because I want improvement!! I collect because I enjoy it and value isn't really too much of a consideration. I buy figures of the wrestlers I like from the eras I enjoy because I want to have those memories caught in figure form.

People always ask me when i'm going to sell my collection. Or tell me in 20 years it's going to be worth heaps. Because i've collected things from basketball cards, CD's to action figures my entire life. I see this as another part of collecting from the Metallica black album I got when I was 12 to the Shaq rookie card i've had for 15 years. Hopefully I still have them all when i'm 50 - 60 years old, including the wrestling figures.

I don't see "collector's Items" as meaning something that should hold a monetary value. To me they are a hobby of something I enjoyed. I buy a figure for the memories they bring back of watching wrestling with my father growing up. That was something we had in common and with him being gone I can look at a figure on my shelves and remember a match that we watched together. It's the same with my Batman/DC collection that reminds me of my childhood. I have never bought a figure hoping it's $ value would hold or go up in the future I don't follow or believe in the secondary market. To me it's the sentimental value they bring me and that's all that matters to me. And as for Mattel vs Jakks issues I don't care, because I have more than 1 shelf to display them on so I display the all there's no reason for me to sell off anything.

Last couple months i been collecting mostly Wrestling figures but i also buy Masters of the universe classics and those figures are really expensive.
I use too much money for action figures and dvd,s. and sometime i dont have enough money for bills or food.
Thats why i lately have bought only items what i really would like and i dont use so much money for fun and now i have more money for use other stuff like bills and food.
i dont know about USA or UK but here Finland food cost really really much. and that sucks

Thats what you get for buying those intellectually- disabled looking figs anyway. Ive been a WWE fan my whole life as well as an action figure collector but I skipped out completely on that garbage. Mattel all the way!

Thats what you get for buying those intellectually- disabled looking figs anyway. Ive been a WWE fan my whole life as well as an action figure collector but I skipped out completely on that garbage. Mattel all the way! I wouldn't put it that harshly but I tend to agree. I've collected wrestling figures since LJN days, giant inarticulate 2 lbs rubber statues, and despite their action features, I really liked Hasbros and felt that Galoobs were the perfect blend of LJN/Hasbros - i.e. inarticulate scaled down statues. That was then, thanks to modern technology we can actually get articulation now! But then Jakks came along and turned me right off. Thunder Thigh RAs can't do a simple boston crab and a superkick looks aweful. How can you have wrestling toys that can't even be placed into BASIC wrestling moves. Jakks scale was another issue that pissed me off - how do you guys appreciate Rey Mysterio standing eye-to-eye with Undertaker? It's so nonsensical. So I opted out of Jakks. Now Mattel has brought me back into collecting wrestling toys with their attention to detail, scale, and awesome line-ups. I can appreciate PJ's sentimental value, but at the end of the day I feel Jakks wrestling toys were the worst in all the eras.

I feel compelled to chime in a bit...from a financial perspective.
I've been casually selling off my wrestling figures for more than 10 years online and I can say...wrestling figures have made me a small fortune.
I know I'm not the norm and by no means did I take up the hobby of collecting to make money (serious collector since 1987) - but the stars have aligned for me over and over again.
I couldn't survive off this moderate income boost, but time after time, I've proven that you can profit from selling wrestling figures...or anything you truly enjoy as a past time.
And just because Mattel has come out with yet another set of LOD - there's still someone out there looking the Jakks and AWA versions. Trust me.
Don't expect a fortune from your collections, but don't count it out either!

What kind of egomaniac are you? Mattel shouldn´t do Legends because YOU don´t want your collection to decrease in worth? Get a life!
You´re just collecting to make money with it someday? Are figures the new stocks for kids?? I collect for the fun of it, but I guess that´s too old fashioned...
