Personally it is my favorite era of all time. I was a huge Austin fan & was addicted immediately as soon as he became the beer swelling redneck. The era was just filled with so many memories for me. Is it the best era of all time? Couldn't say, I wasn't born during the 80s so I missed most of this era. Is it my favorite? yes, but I almost feel that many will favorite the era they grew up as kids watching in my opinion.

I dont hate it, fact is it still serves to take me back to my teen years but I wish we hadnt seen so many gimmick matches. |

I'd watch a RAW from97-99 over todays product any day. As far as over the top gimmics go, i prefer that over everyone today being super serious.

When you have The Rock, Stone Cold, HHH, Mick Foley, Undertaker, Kane, Kurt Angle, Chris Jericho, Chris Benoit, etc. all actively wrestling at the same time, how dare you say it sucked. I honestly don't get how anyone could talk poop about that era, I think it's just people wanting to go against everyone else's opinion, because the storylines and quality of TV shows every week were unparalleled, the stuff with the Higher Power, Austin and McMahon, Rock and Austin, Undertaker and Kane, The Ministry, etc. is the best stuff in the history of this business and how anyone can say otherwise is beyond me. But if you like the cartoon characters of the 80's or the poop that is happening today more, so be it, but I feel really sorry for you if that's the case.

The Attitude Era for me, was what got me into wrestling on a weekly basis. Not because of what it was, that was part of it, but others things like the Monday Night Wars was at its peak then and The Rock was starting to become on of WWE's biggest stars.
There are some parts of the era I didn't like, but then again, you get that in any era.

The things I disliked about the attitude era I can count on one hand (not pun intended). They are as follows in no order:
PMS
Mae Young birth to hand
RTC
Sable
Over the edge

The Attitude Era was great at the time, but I really cannot go back and watch it without cringing. The talent was good, the storylines were good and over the top, and the same can be said about the gimmicks; however, the actual wrestling quality sucked, with few exceptions.

I was glued to my tv every single week and it was head and shoulders above today. Someone in this thread talked about "cartoon characters of the 80's" well, when I think of old school wrestling I do not automaticly think WWF I grew up a memphis wrestling fan, from the time I was three years old. Not only that, AWA... great stuff When I can go back and watch the likes of Curt Henning Vs. Nick Bockwinkle or The Midnight Rockers Vs. Playboy Buddy Rose and Pretty Boy Doug Somers, why would I want to see so many gimmick matches like we got in the attitude era? That's my only complaint, as I've gotten older I like the mindset and feel of a stead wrestling match. I dont need tables ladders and chairs, though they all have their place. I dont even need blood, though it too has it's place. I want the two guys in the ring to make me feel the match without having to go over the top. Tell me a story, please I dont think any true wrestling fan would argue with what I said here. |

My favorite time in wrestling has always been 1996-2005. The variety of WCW, ECW, and WWF/E at the time was great. I'm sure that the main reason I feel this way though, is that I was still a kid, and believed that everything was real. I mean, I was AFRAID of Taker and Kane... I LOVED the Hardys simply because the moved quick... I LOVED Goldberg because he was an unstopable freak of nature... I don't feel that way now, as I've learned so much about the business...
Honestly, I think that the Internet killed wrestling for me; but at the same time, it brought my love for it to a whole new level...

1985-1995, was the best era of wrestling in my opinion. There were so many great moments in there. WWF, NWA, AWA, WCCW, GWF, USWA, etc. Territory wrestling at its best. Truly the "Glory Years" of wrestling. This time period was such a great time to be a wrestling fan.

Even though i started watching wrestling in 1991,i consider myself a 'new generation' kid. I was never huge on the attitude era,by the end of 1997 it was getting unbearable for me,yet i still put up with the WWE till 2004 lol.
