So putting aside the fact that these days the guy is batsh*t insane, anybody else a fan of the guy? I think had things gone another way he could have been a big star in the WWF. He had a good look, he could talk, and he could go in the ring.

He didn't really appeal to me until he left the WWF. Then I read in The Wrestler & Inside Wrestling (this was before the internet, folks) that he went back to Portland & became a HUGE monster heel. Years later, I finally got to see some of that footage courtesy of youtube.

I liked him a good bit before he went to the WWE, but once there, well, things went the same route they did for a lot of NWA talent.

Yeah all of post-WWF Portland stuff is on youtube and it's part of why I made this thread. I just think it's a shame he never got to reach his full potential. I mean WCW put him under a mask, gave him a generic name, and billed him from "A Little Town in France". Jesus.

I liked his run in WWF, as short-lived as it was. He could have been a good IC champion.

I haven't watched any of the shoots with him but I do enjoy going back to wrestling tapes and watching a little of his time in WWF. Probably better for him he wasn't around long rather than stay long and lose a lot of matches on his way out.
A few years ago he did an autograph signing that I went to. He was very gracious with the fans, taking in interest in their stories. He was in a "superticket" group with a few other wrestlers. He had two photo choices-a promo type photo from WWF and an in-ring photo of he and Ken Patera. He signed a photo for me (the promo type) which was included free in the ticket. He also signed the in-ring photo and gave it to my grandfather. I believe he was signing both for other fans as well. It was a kind thought by him. I've met a lot of wrestlers and many are very appreciative of the fans but many also (along with the ticket takers sitting near them) pay strict attention to making sure fans aren't getting any extras that haven't been paid for. Granted, they are there to sell their signatures and fans shouldn't take advantage but a guy like Billy Jack Haynes who allows fans to get the most from him stands out.
