What's the story between these two? I'm watching Benoit's DVD for the first time and he talks about the problems with him and Sullivan and other than the booking issues he mentions not wanting to go in too much on a certain issue due to his kids. I'm assuming from the way it was shot it has something to do with Woman?

Woman left Sullivan for Benoit and it led to mega heat between them.
MEGA heat.

Sullivan was the booker in WCW at the time. He booked an angle where he & Benoit were going to feud. He had Benoit "steal" Woman (Sullivan's real-life wife at the time) from him in a story line. Sullivan even went so far as to have them travel & spend almost every waking moment together. This eventually led to Woman legitimately leaving Sullivan for Benoit.
The wrestlers backstage would joke that "Sullivan booked his own divorce".

So did all this heat come before, after, or during their series of matches in 96/97? Because they were great. Especially the "career match" at Bash at the Beach.

I believe it during the series of matches. I pretty sure Chris said in his dvd that they were stiff as hell on each other because of it. Could be wrong though.

in the book ring of hell (about the demise of benoit) the author goes into some depth about the whole situation.
according to the book, kevin sullivan had an obsession with fooling the boys in the back with these so called "shoot" angles.
as he was feuding with benoit at the time he wanted to crank up the heat on the whole situation, so instructed chris and nancy to act like they were having an affair wit each other, so that everyone would believe that she was cheating on her husband with the guy he was feuding with.
there is a lot of info on the whole incident in the above mentioned book but too much to put in one post. the end result was that chris and nancy ended up getting together for real.
a fascinating story but not sure how true all the details are.
