With all the talk now about announcers and announce teams, for those of you that don't know, at ECW Barely Legal 1997, Joey Styles did the play by play commentary by himself that night and on many other night in ECW but on that night in particular he did ECW's first PPV alone and I honestly don't think that anyone in wrestling commentary has lived up to that since then. I also think that what he did that night was never given enough credit and I don't think that he was ever given enough credit as an announcer in general.
Thoughts?

I agree..It seems that Joey doesn't really get much credit as an announcer as he deserves..I always really liked his Style & thought he was better on his own than most announce teams..I'd prefer him over any of the current announcers...The only one I really like now is Stryker...The announcing situation re minds me of the tag division now..Used to be so awesome but really sucks at the moment.

He's on my top 5 announcers ever list. Easily one of the best. I base my play by play preferences on how legit sounding the announcer is. Their credibility if you will. The fact that they sound credible/believable in a worked sport shows how talented they are. Joey was among the best at that. And since he flew solo in ECW he had the then exclusive task of being both play by play AND color guy at once. A very unique distinction as I do not count the color men on my best play by play list I would rank them seperately. For those who care my top 5 are as follows:
1. Jim Ross
2.Gordon Solie
3.Lance Russel
4.Joey Styles
5.Tony Schiavone (I know that one might not sit well with everyone but hey...its my list lol)

John Finnegan has the unfortunate task of refereeing this match, the poor bastard. I died. I think that was from ONS 06 from the Funk/Dreamer/Beulah vs Foley/Edge/Lita match.
But anyways, yes, Barely Legal he was great.
And he's for sure in the top of best announcers.

I hold Joey Styles in the highest regard, for me, he's the perfect announcer.

If Joey would have been allowed to be himself in WWE, we wouldn't have to ever worry about Cole That would have been great if the replaced Cole with Joey..I wish Cole would just retire or something..There's nothing special about him at all as an announcer..I don't flat out hate him..But I honestly feel like he is one of the worst/most annoying announcers of all time |

I love Joey Styles's style of announcing. In school, I annoy this kid by announcing just like Joey Styles when he plays basketball.

When Joey doesn't get to hyper, I think he's one of the best ever. I would love to have him and Striker on RAW every week.
