this was New Blood Rising.......I think Goldberg was meant to be heel here so he took the cowardly way out?
but honestly at this point in time in WCW who knows?

Don't they end up thanking Steiner at the end of this match for allowing Kevin Nash to defeat him?

Well, whoever the 3rd announcer was, said that he knew Goldberg was injured and he was supposed to go up for the Jackknife and it sounded like he was talking shoot style, and not in character. And was saying how Nash is a pro, and he could have punched him and it would've been over. So who knows.

At that point I think wCw was trying too hard to make everything seem like a shoot. But after the whole Hogan thing, who knows maybe this was real.

seriously, how ridiculous is that? russo writing that they break kayfabe CONSTANTLY onscreen, constantly betraying the ongoing plot making you wonder 'what the hell is actually happening?'
this is around where i started watching raw strictly.

i hate how they BLATANTLY expose the business "what I think happened was, Goldberg was supposed to go up for the powerbomb"

I believe it must have been similar to the Hogan incident a little, I think Goldberg just bounced cause the way he was talking to Russo....sounded pretty legitamitley pissed.

i hate how they BLATANTLY expose the business "what I think happened was, Goldberg was supposed to go up for the powerbomb" I was thinking the exact same thing. Breaking kayfabe and trying to make your show look like a shoot really makes the show look cheap and is a terrible direction to go in. If you want to keep the fans guessing and entertained, a good story line and well executed maneuvers will get the job done properly, not this crap.

(incidently another shock tactic of russo was to turn goldberg heel, not because it made sense in the story lines, but because no one was expecting it) but as you say, good, logical storylines and action to match make for good viewing, and, in turn, a lot of the fans, who have some idea of the inner workings, are willing to suspend their disbelief.

WF member Jimmy said best, "Everything you're watching is fake, except for this, this right now is real!" was seemingly Russo's formula at the time, as you could see it failed miserably. As some of you dudes pointed out, there was a lack of depth in the story lines , and this was a cheap way to spice things up.
Does anyone have footage where Buff is backstage, I think with Scotty Riggs, and they go over the finish for their own match?

Russo is like a child with a short attention span-he leaps into ideas without thinking them through-then decids next weekm they are crap and drops them.
I used to be like that when I was 11 and playing with my Hasbros.....

That was Vince Russo trying to get people to believe that the match was a shoot despite the wrestlers using power bombs and Irish Whips.

Yeah the story was, Goldberg legitimately didn't want to lose two shows in a row, so Russo decided to make it a fake shoot angle. Then Steiner, being the great company man he is (despite burying the company a few weeks earlier on Nitro), took the powerbomb.
WHAT ARE THEY GOING TO DO NOW? IMPROVISE?!
