today (20th april 2010) marks the 11th anniversary of the death of Rick Rude.
one of my all time favourite wrestlers. loved his matches with the ultimate warrior and their wrestlemania 5 encounter was one of the reasons i got so much into wrestling
R.I.P. Richard Rood

What a shame considering he was rehabbing for an in-ring comeback at the time of his death.
His passing was one of the first of the numerous pro wrestling related deaths we have witnessed over the last decade or so.
I smile imagining Rude approaching Heaven's Gates, harps playing softly in the background...
"Cut the music! What I'd like to have right now is for all you Lord-praising, Heaven-dwelling sweathogs to keep the noise down..."
Rest in Peace.

One of the better heels in the late 80's, and one of a handful of guys to knock out The Ultimate Warrior when he tried his shit.

The man was great enough said, but you could definitely tell his physique was by way of needle. I miss the man just as much as the next guy and which that he could've given us a few more memorable years.
Another wrestler to die young, but many apart of the era he was in have as well. Shows you the difference between today and yester-year.

Rude was so great.his feud with Warrior was excellent and so was his feud with Sting.
I was shocked to hear in Bobby Heenans shoot interview that Rude didnt want to be part of the Heenan family.
Heenans shoot has some great stories about him actually.

I always thought he should have had a run as WWE champion. Glad he got his chance in wCw though.

Rude was amazing. I know people like to say everybody and their mom should have been world champion, but I strongly feel that Rude had a legit claim to a WWF, or WCW World Title.

Wasn't Rude WCW champion for a bit? I believe he was WCW International Champion which briefly served as a replacement for the WCW World title when Ric Flair jumped to the WWF.

Wasn't Rude WCW champion for a bit? I believe he was WCW International Champion which briefly served as a replacement for the WCW World title when Ric Flair jumped to the WWF. Actually, the international World title was the name they gave for the NWA title after the NWA backed out of WCW. Sadly, he would have been NWA champion had he won the belt about two weeks sooner. His status as world champion is shaky for this reason. But, considering WCW put world in the name of it, while it was not their top belt, I'd count it... It's not like they were real titles anyway I'm a huge fan of Rick Rude and would have liked to see him get a run at the top. Had he not been injured there's a good chance it would have happened to. Oh the things that ever were. I mean seriously... The man made Warrior look good. that's no easy task... And Sam Hain, Who else KO'ed Warrior? I know Rude did it, and Andre did (I never tire of that story) were there more? Rude also KO'ed PN News once... The impressive thing about when Rude did these thing was that it was with a back hand... I guess he really kept his pimp hand strong. Lastly, as an interesting not... He at one point legally changed his name to Ravishing Rick Rude, so that he could take the name everywhere... Funny thing is that if you see trading cards, figures, etc. "Ravishing" is almost never in quotes as a stage nickname would be. My theory has always been that was the reason.

prob one of the greatest heels of his time - i really enjoyed his feud with Sting in the early 90's - made me a fan of WCW for that very reason.

I never understood why they would call it the international world championship. It really makes no sense at all. However I look at the title no different then the WWE/WHC title reigns. Both titles in the WWE are considered world championships, I see no reason why this shouldnt as well. I consider Rude a world champion.
