I just watched the Mero fight on Youtube and it did look very phoney..When he was choking Butterbean with that rope was a dead give away...Watching that fight was such a waste of time.

I was always a huge WWF fan -- especially at that time, with how insane the product was. But in those years I had also become a fan of the early UFC, so I was very excited about Brawl-For-All.
The fights didn't turn out that great for a number of reasons. Most of the fans at the live shows didn't appreciate it ... lots of "boring" and "we want wrestling" chants. The wrestlers being totally serious and out of character seemed to be contrary to what the live fans wanted to see.
Then you had the injuries. Then you had the bizarre rules. You had certain guys with awesome physiques gassing out after 30 seconds of fighting, which made them look bad by proving their muscles were only for show. Some of the guys started hating the BFA due to the injuries and due to the potential to be embarrassed on live TV if you lost... which for anyone with a tough-guy gimmick, was career suicide. (That's basically what happened to Steve Williams.)
Still, as a fan of real fights, I did enjoy seeing what certain WWF wrestlers looked like in a shoot fight, even if it did have weird rules. As luck would have it, I even got to see two of the first-round fights from a second-row seat at a Raw taping (Dr. Death vs. Carl Ouelette, 8-Ball vs. Scorpio).

now i forget who his opponent was but someone who bradshaw (i think) faced in this tournament was instructed to pull his punches as he couldn't handle it in a real fight.
i'm convinced it's bradshaw as when i read it i thought it was pretty ironic that with all his back stage goings-on this would be an ideal opportunity for him to prove how tough he is.
