Now I don't really frequent the classics board too often. I'm aware that I missed the boat on Jim Crockett promotions, hence why I'm doing some diggin to try and get acclimated with why that time period was so special. So I recently was fortunate enough to obtain the full colection of Wargames matches and I must say that they were amazing. While I enjoyed the main event feel and pagentry of the later ones, the raw atmosphere of the early NWA Wargames matches cannot be beaten. So I just thought I'd create this thread to spark some discussion on the match itself. I know some of the guys here are old enough to hae seen the matches as they happened. So what's your favorite match? Your favorite team? Your favorite moment? Discuss

Technically Im not sure you got the COMPLETE Wargames collection as many were at house shows. However if you did, you need to PM me anyway my favorite team by far is going to be the Horsemen team. My fav all time wargames match would probably be Horsmen (Flair, Anderson, Blanchard, Windham and Dillon) vs Rhodes, Sting, Luger, Koloff and Ellering) however Ive never seen it as I think it was at a house show but the line up looks incredible. LOL Fav team (that I actually saw)-Flair, Anderson, Blanchard, Luger, Dillon Fav Match (That I actually saw)- Horsemen beat Sting, Pillman and the Steiners.....why? because believe it or not its the ONLY Wargames the Horsemen ever won

I believe that their were 13 of them that were actually televised. 12 if you want to account for 2000 having the triple tier cage intead of the classic double ring cage.

I remember that magazine. I had it as well. On one side was The Dangerous Alliance and if you flipped it vertically it had Stings Squadron on the other side. Pretty cool back in the days. WCW mag covers were always so glossy too haha. Technically Im not sure you got the COMPLETE Wargames collection as many were at house shows. Yea Ive got quite a few of them on VHS. At one point I did have one of the unaired ones on VHS. I dont recall exactly which one it was. No commentary on it as it was just a cameraman outside of the cage the entire time. Still a nice thing to have.

The First Wargames was still the greatest. I remember the build to this like it was yesterday. One can only imagine how much better it would have been with Magnum T.A in there instead of Nikita Koloff.
Was a match for the ages.

Wargames was great. For me, the original was the best, mostly because of the intensity of the build up and the fact that it featured the feuds that carried the promotion.
I thought Nikita was good in the early Wargames, but I can imagine how much more intense they would have been with Magnum. He had so much history with Flair and Tully.

Imagine Wargames starting off with Magnum vs Tully for 5 minutes. then Arn coming in with him and Tully beating the hell out of Magnum. Fans would have been jumping over the barricade to try to save Magnum. Then have either Hawk or Animal come in and destroy both horseman to save Magnum. WOW what a explosion it would have been

I was just thinking the other day about all the great things Magnum could have been in if he was still around. I mean right now he's only 50 so not only did he hit at a very young age but his prime was really way ahead of him. Id have loved to seen Dusty, Windham, Magnum and The Road Warriors vs Flair, Blanchard, Anderson, Anderson and Luger.
Not only that you could flash forward a few years to when he's around 35ish (still young). The invading nWo angle with Hogan, Hall and Nash vs Sting, Magnum and Luger (although Id prefer Flair). You would at least have WCW originals. Magnum missed so much due to his car wreck. Im glad he's not bitter or regrets anything but wow, what could have been is astounding.

Awesome matches, well apart from the last couple anyway, but moving on quickly...
I'm still stunned that WWE has never put one of these on at a WWE PPV. I know Vince loves to ignore anything other companies created but this is too big a deal to have been ignored.

The first is still the standard bearer for me. Overall Wargames is my all time favorite gimmick match. It sucks that we will never get one today, and even if we did it would lack everything that made it great.

The first one. An epic 5 star match that should never be forgotten. Perfect down to the last second.
