Anybody ever wonder why The Undertaker won the Hardcore title? I mean given the Undertaker's main event status and how little prestige the belt had, it seems like an odd combo. It wasn't a week title reign as he held the belt for about 2 months.

Seeing as it was the time period where Undertaker was beating the life out of people, adding a reason to use weapons made it kind of awesome. I didn't mind it.

It was great, and at that time, the Title had alot of prestige, what with the matches Van Dam was having

I think it was a last-minute decision, I believe it was only announced it would be for the Hardcore title on the pre-PPV Heat. So yeah, I guess just a decision to make the match more interesting with the "anything goes" stipulation suiting 'Taker's MO at the time.

I think it's because they needed someone credible to dethrone RVD.

Maybe it was to match his 'new' persona? We saw a side of Taker that we never saw before in terms of violence.

Plus they wanted to make him seem like a bully, and since the hardcore division was mostly mid-carders that pretty much were cruiserweights, it gave Undertaker a reason to beat up on littler people than him.

Gave him a reason to beat up on people more with weapons, also worked well in the short feud he went on to have with Rock when he cost Taker the title to Maven.

Also, by the way Van Dam was getting pushed at the time, I think they may have had high hopes for him, and thsi way it was a logical way to get the Title off without any shit.

It gave Maven his only title run, so I have nothing against it. Not to mention Taker was amazing during this time period.
