The Wrestling Time Machine

This is something I wanted to do for awhile now. Its very simple. We'll jump in our time machine and go back into the past and change 1 small event and then explain how it could have affected the future of wrestling. For fun lets limit this to 1985 to 1995. Now into the time machine



We go back to a time. Somewhere around late November early December 1989. The man is Tully Blanchard. What is changing is very simple. Tully Blanchard was scheduled to leave WWF and return to the NWA along side Arn Anderson to reform the 4 Horsemen. Before leaving the WWF he takes and fails a drug test prompting the NWA to back out of their contract talks. So what happens if Blanchard doesnt snort that line of coke......

-The Original Members reunited to help Flair battle the J-Tex corp

-Sting never becomes a member of the Horsemen therefore never gets kicked out. Sting never runs down to attack Flair in the cage therefore never injuring his knee. As there is no major storyline building the feud between Sting and Flair its possible that Sting doesnt get his title run until much later after the Original July '90 date.

-As Ole Anderson retires and steps away from the ring a new Horsemen has to be put in place. The logical choice is a former Horseman as well in Barry Windham. With Ric, Arn, Tully and Barry all locked into place we come to find there is no room for Sid. Therefore Sid Vicious never becomes a 4 Horseman.

-Around 1991 Flair is very unhappy with his surroundings. He wants to leave the company for greener pastures. Lets say though that with Tully and Arn back that he's happier. The "band" is back together and certainly will have more pull the Jim Herd. Flair neglects leaving for the WWF and therefore never wins the WWF title, never faces Hogan, never main events Wrestlemania. Hogan possibly never loses the title to The Undertaker. A should have been (Piper, Dibiase, Santana) wins the Royal Rumble for the world title or a new comer like Sid Justice takes the strap and becomes the face of the company.

-Since Flair is still in the WCW, Luger doesnt get his title match. Windham is planned to get the strap therefore the Horsemen are down to 3. To fill a role of Windham you dont go to a Roma type (that and we're looking around 91-92 here) so the Horsemen pick up Larry Zbyszko. Larry starts teaming with Arn (much like they actually did) and dominating the tag team division. Flair and Windham are feuding over the World title and Tully Blanchard and Sting are in the United States title feud.

-The group of Flair, Anderson, Blanchard and Zbyszko stay together until 1995 when Blanchard and Zbyszko eventually retire and leave the Horsemen down to two. The Horsemen quickly pick up 2 young talented stars in Brian Pillman and Chris Benoit. Eventually creating a young improved Horsemen and at the final bell...we all know how it ends.

So by Tully Blanchard not snorting coke that one night, the entire wrestling world could have changed for 5 years....Lets rewrite some more history ;D

Finding out that Tully Blanchard doing coke is what ed up what was shaping up to be one of the greatest returns in pro wrestling history is one of the biggest letdowns I've ever experienced in my life. I do realize that isn't exactly what this thread is about, but still...

Up until I actually bought and watched the IV Horseman DVD, I was told or at least had myself believing it was something to do with his contract.

haha I know what you mean. I remember watching that unfold and was like yes yes yes then like...wait, what the hell, its only 2 guys. I didnt know for the longest time Blanchard was suppose to come back but I was surprised when he didnt. I remember watching I think SummerSlam and my cousin telling me that the Brain Busters use to be Ric Flairs best friends (i grew up with NWA and never watched WWF) and when I saw Arn with no Tully I was confused. Oh how great it could have been

In 1988, Bruiser Brody leaves a 4 day tour of Puerto Rico 1 day early. Jorge Gonzales never gets the opportunity to "talk" to him in the shower stall.
Brody goes on to work in numerous independent organizations, settling in the UWF where he feuds with Terry Gordy & Steve "Dr. Death" Williams. He was in talks with both the NWA & WWF. He hears that Ted Turner buys WTBS & decides to sign a WWF contract.
He starts with a big, monster heel push but leaves after refusing to "alter his image" and jobbing to Zeus.
He goes into semi-retirement, starting BAM (Brody Athletic Management. A business that manages & represents athletes from other professional sports). After some red tape and some general mud-slinging from the NFL, NHL, NBA, & NLB, he eventually gets it off the ground & becomes very successful.
He hears about a new wrestling organization called ECW. He shows up unannounced and shocks the crowd by brutally attacking Terry Funk after one of Funks matches, putting Funk on the shelf for a few weeks. This attack on Funk makes Tommy Dreamer step in for Terry. Brody & Dreamer have numerous matches, all going to a no-decision. At an ECW pay per view, Brody annihilates Dreamer by giving him repeated piledrivers on the concrete. Funk throws a swerve & says he asked Brody to put him out of wrestling deliberately, just so he can see his old friend Bruiser kick the snot out of a "hardcore wannabe" like Dreamer.
After not getting paid by Paul Heyman, Brody takes his frustrations out on him by giving him the beating of a lifetime. Brody is arrested later that night & has charges filed on him by Paul Heyman.
A lengthy court battle ensues, with Brody having to pay a hefty fine. He is spared a jail sentence & is ordered to perform community service.
Brody finishes his community service & attends autograph signings to help pay for the fine, and putting more effort into BAM.
Brody attends the ECW Hardcore Homecoming where he has a barbed wire hardcore match against New Jack. During the match, Brody ties New Jack in the wire and is attempting to give him his patented "big boot". New Jack moves and Brody is severely lacerated from his calf to his crotch. The match is a no-contest and Brody is rushed to the hospital. He loses lots of blood and has severe nerve damage in his leg. He will recover, but his wrestling career is over due to the injury. He also has to use a cane and has a very bad limp.
Brody spends the remainder of his career attending autograph signings, and finally getting BAM acknowledged as a legitimate company. He retires and lives very comfortably in New Mexico.

Reason? Simple. If this promo never happened, or morseso if The Rock never said "Who in the blue hell are you?" to Booker T, it's more than likley Sting would have joined the WWF.

Brody was not the type of person to permanently injure a worker because of a promoter, he would've went after Paul

I would have prevented David Von Erich's death. Trust me, if David had lived, we would all be watching WCCW. World Class would have become what the WWE became.

Wow...You really went all out into this, didn't you? I read 'Brody' and have watched quite a few of his matches, I know that he would often have disputes with promoters, and would hope that if the ECW part of your Time Machine worked, then as they had a friendship when Paul met him earlier before his untimely passing, that Paul would know not to screw him out of any payday, hoping that Brody's name, alongside Funk's and possibly Terry Gordy's, would help ECW to become more well-known.
