Should Sting have went to Vince in the 80s?

I was just watching the Four Horsemen DVD and listening to Flair saying that Vince would have made Sting HUGE and would have known how to market him......

what do you all think of this?

I still think he would have been ace in the 90's or 00's....I have always wanted to see an Undertaker vs. Crow Sting program...or of course an Ultimate Warrior feud as Surfer Sting - they could have played on their Blade Runners tag-team days

I definately think Vince would have marketed him better.but then theres that whole thing with Vince and folks created elsewhere....

Hawk and Animal were Merchandise machines for him in 90-92(I still have my buddies!!)but in ring it was only so so for them.

dunno Im torn on this.my friend thinks Vince should have made a big push to get Sting in 93 when Hogan was on the way out

Depends on when he came. If he came during the Hogan runs then he would have still be the 2nd biggest face in the company...

Also I dont understand why everyone wants to see Taker vs Crow Sting? They've fought before, both in their younger more agile days and the match wasnt great then. I dont see the "aura" (is that the word?) of Sting vs Taker. What just because they both wear black and long coats and have slimy hair?? A Sting vs HBK match would have been much more off the charts

I think many want that match because of the promos we would get. The hype would also be immense, and yeah, I agree that Michaels vs Sting would be better.

I'm glad Sting never went to the WWF/E. He's my favorite wrestler ever, and I would have hated to see Vince crap all over him like he so often has done to big stars from other promotions. I love Flair, but he has rose colored glasses when it comes to the WWE. In one of his dvds he complains about how WCW ran him down with bad booking and jobbed him to Hogan and Savage, conveniently forgetting that, until the Bischoff days, they always gave him great programs and rivalries. Flair is the greatest wrestler ever, but in all the time he was with the WWF/E, he only had a few great moments -- the Royal Rumble win and the well-deserved retirement send-off chief among them.

I think Sting would have been a better fit for the WWF than Flair was (in terms of character and look), and Vince sure would have marketed the hell out of him. I'm glad Vince never got the chance.

Oh, definitely. It's such a shame that he never went to the WWF. Vince would've made him huge and look at the matches we would have seen in the WWF...Sting vs. Bret, Sting vs. Austin, Sting vs. Angle, Sting vs. Diesel, Sting vs. Undertaker, Sting vs. HBK, Sting vs. HHH, Sting vs. Jericho, Sting vs. Owen, Sting vs. Mr. Perfect, Sting vs. Million Dollar Man, Sting vs. Ultimate Warrior, and Sting vs. Andre the Giant to name a few. They all would've been great to see.

The WWF didn't always use WCW guys to their fullest potential, sometimes simply because they felt the need to change most guys' characters even if their previous gimmick was working.

That being said, I always felt Sting (pre-"Crow" gimmick) was the one guy the WWF would have absolutely used well. Sting was far better on the mic, and a better actual wrestler, than Hellwig. Not to mention he was probably far easier to work with backstage. And look at how big they made Hellwig.

With Sting -- as long as they didn't force a new gimmick on him -- he just always seemed like a displaced WWF guy in WCW. Which is, I think, part of the reason he stood out in WCW. You always got the impression he wouldn't have missed a beat if he ever went to the WWF.

I like the fact Sting never worked for Vince, and as he was able to attain the status he has without Vince, I'm sure he would've just become another guy down the track, but then again, I could be wrong.

The same question has to be asked of Bruiser Brody however...What if...?

Simply put....NO! I am glad he never went there. I think the NWA/WCW gave him everything he ever needed. He was always one of their top guys.

Besides, more than likely, if he would have gone to the WWF, can you imagine the name Vince would have came up with for him? Back in those days, everyone had a gimmick and anyone coming in had to have a new name.

Nope, I am glad he stuck with the NWA/WCW. He is one of the reasons for my fond memories of that classic era.

I actually think its funny Vince never got his hands on him. Sting is one of the few big names that has not worked for the WWF.

Sting would not be the same if he had gone to Vince.

He has created such an amazing character over the years and I think its partly because of his choice in promotions.

but the promos would suck. Lights go out, out comes Taker, lights go out, down comes sting. taker looks and says rest in peace, sting just points at him with a bat and then goes back up to the rafters. Lights go out again and Taker disappears. yawn

I'm glad Sting never did. He wouldnt have been used properly. The fact that he never worked for Vince and still became such an icon in wrestling speaks volumes about the charisma he had. I bet it still irks Vince McMahon to this day that Sting never worked for him.

HE had another chance after WCW closed it's doors to head over to WWE and decided not to, if he would have he would have achieved the ICON status that most of his fans like to consider him as having.

I loved Sting in his pre-Crow day, but he is not on a level with the ICON's of his generation (Hogan, Flair, Austin, The Rock & HBK).

Why is he not on that level? Because he never worked in the WWE? There's nothing else he could have done, except prove to WWE fans that he could make it big there. I think a lot of us are saying his career doesn't need any such validation. Even if you want to make it a matter of WWE being the biggest company, Sting was a top guy in WCW during that period when it was doing better than the WWE.
