now I know they started out because Hawk and Animal wouldnt go to Vince in 87 but I have to say they grew leaps and bounds and dont deserve the Road Warriors knock off tag.
when they turned face in November 88(after Vince heard the cheers for 8 months previous)they were and I still firmy believe this based on pops from
WM5 Summerslam 89 Survivor Series 89 Rumble 90 and esepcially WM6
that they were either tied second with Hellwig as the 2nd most popular act or the absolute second most popular act.
the combination of their interview style,Look, style in the ring and of courseTHAT entrance tune makes them a class act to me.
also the first team Vince gave the titles to 3 times.....at a time when his division was packed.....and he respected those belts.
so respect for Ax and Smash!! ;D

I totally agree, The Road Warrior knock off tag is harsh, just because they wore face paint too. The Powers of Pain are the biggest LOD knock offs of all time. The music too is awesome, its up there with Austin's glass break & Bret's 1993 - 1997 theme in my book.

I eventually grew to like Demolition, but I was a huge fan of the Road Warriors, and they just felt like such a rip-off. As were the Powers of Pain. And when you compare the two, I think the Road Warriors blow them out of the water. Demolition was a good tag team, but not great.

Loved Demolition - the 3-pack from Jakks is perfect!
I always loved their feud with Hart Foundation and Powers of Pain. Shame they never fought LOD for the titles at a Wrestlemania. And what an entrance theme!?

Hands down, my favorite tag-team of all-time. Everything about them was awesome. Their face-paint, their leather vests with spikes and their "Jason"-like masks and without a doubt, their entrance music still remains my favorite theme of all-time as well.
On a side note, I attended WrestleMania VI at The SkyDome way back in 1990 when I was a kid. It was awesome. And seeing Demolition win the tag belts for a 3rd time was incredible. The roar of the crowd when they won, was unbelievable.
And another thing that was awesome was me and my brother got to meet both Ax & Smash at a Legends Reunion back on April 1st, 2007 in Windsor. It was EXACTLY 17 years later to the day that we saw them as kids defeat Andre & Haku and then got to meet them all those years later. I'll never forget that.

WWF should have kept Demolition around and buried LOD back in 1990 since Demolition was their own creation and also much better than LOD.

WWF should have kept Demolition around and buried LOD back in 1990 since Demolition was their own creation and also much better than LOD. Absolutely insane. I have never seen anyone who wasn't a diehard, wwe="the only wrestling that matters" mark say anything like that. As TRW says, for fans who actually watched the Warriors before Demolition was created, they were an absolute, laugh-out-loud knock off. Worse than the Powers of Pain, because even though Powers of Pain were a more direct copy, they were not meant to replace or supersede the Road Warriors. Most Road Warriors fans at the time regarded them, at least before they left the NWA, as a team designed to feud with Hawk and Animal (think Bizarro Superman or any villain that is modeled after the hero). Nobody thought of POP as Road Warrior replacements. Vince obviously intended Demolition to be Road Warrior "stand ins". As Animal said, when the real LOD arrived, he put Demolition to the side. Hawk and Animal were revolutionary. I like both original Demolition members as performers, but they didn't have the impressive look of the Road Warriors in their prime. By the time Demolition was created, neither Ax nor Smash had intimidating physiques. Honestly, did Demolition really carry off the whole "scary destroyers" thing for you guys? If they did, its because that look and persona in wrestling was defined by the Warriors. I understand lots of people really love Demolition. I get that. I just want you guys to realize that, at the time, everyone except for kid fans who only watched the WWF regarded Demolition as a brazen knock off. Road Warrior imposters. The fact that they were super-over just means that Vince's rip off worked. By the way, the Road Warriors sprinting to the ring to "Iron Man" crushes "Here comes the Ax! Here comes the Smasher . . .!"

When I was a kid, I thought Demolition was the coolest thing and would have arguments with other kids over who was better, Demolition or the Hart Foundation. When another kid said that the Steiner Brothers could beat Demolition, I thought it was blasphemy. Later on, after they quit the company, I realized that they were a couple of overweight guys in bondage outfits...

Thank You. LOD on their last legs > Demolition at their best. No team will ever match the aura of awesomeness and intimidation that the Road Warriors created. The massive pop was dubbed the Road Warrior Pop. Nuff said.

Kid WWE fans could not see past the awesome marketing of Demolition, but to most everybody else, the sight of these two out of shape veterans trying to imitate the Road Warriors was just too funny to be taken seriously. To be fair, Bill Eadie and Barry Darsow were great workers. They got the job done, as far as what they were asked to do.

LOD were my favourite tag-team ever but I thought this was about Demolition!? But agree with the comments about Demolition being a Road Warriors knock-off.

But agree with the comments about Demolition being a Road Warriors knock-off. ya see any conversation about Demolition WILL draw parallels with The Road Warriors and their enduring awesomness.which is totally natural IMO. yes they were a knock off but I think they desrve to be recognised in their own right. also am I right in saying Arn and Tully are the only team to beat both Tandems in title contests?

Couldn't have said it better if I tried. They couldn't keep the Warriors heel, even after they turned on Dusty Rhodes, they were still being cheered. Honestly, the Road Warriors were one of the first heels I remember getting lots of cheers.

Ax and smash were way better workers then Hawk and Animal. LOD I think is overrated. They just no sold and destroyed, while the Demo's actually had matches. I'd rather watch Demolition vs The Hard foundation, then the road warriors squashing random NWA wrestlers any day.
Demolition > Road Warriors
