I used to say "it doesn't hurt that bad." Then I realized I just have a high tolerance for pain, and I don't really mind it. But yea, it  ing hurts. Worth it, though. My hand and thumb didn't bother me at all. Elbows sucks. |

Fingers were the worst for me, hand I barely noticed. Might have been my easiest ones.

Best image I can get while I am essentially one-handed.  Four hours of work into this. --By the way, that's from my wrist, onto my middle finger's knuckle. The sides and ears sorta wrap around my hand. The knuckle and sides of my hand KILLED ME. |

Thanks man, I'll try to get a more evenly lit photo soon. It's harder than I thought it would be mainly relying on my left hand for nearly everything.
Case and point: Using a fork when eating, opening a bottle of water, handling my camera gear, typing on a computer, texting. I'll be SO happy when this is healed.

Love it man! I've been trying to think about what to put on my hand, cause i'll probably end up getting one.   matching tattoos with my best friend. one of our favorite bands "Mad Capsule Markets"...they have 2 kinda logos, a heel and a face, so we got half of their faces together. =) |

So for quite a while now i've been thinking of a tattoo to get done once im old enough (1 and 3/4 more years) I know this tattoo is pretty common especially in the area i want it (my entire chest & probably come down a bit further depending on the size) but i still want it regardless as i enjoy it. I have a few questions 1. How painful is that area to get tatted? 2. Price range i'm looking at? 3. Good tattoo artists in Chicago? Reference picture  |

That area is SUPER popular to get tattooed right now. It's all over the place, chest pieces are.
Price? That's going to be expensive. Really busy, lots of line work, lots and lots of color, and it's huge. Your whole chest, with something like that, depending on your artist that could be almost a grand or more.
And good artists in Illinois. I go to Native Rituals in Oak Forest, guy named Paul. He does all my tattoos now. My last, probably 15 or 16 tattoos. Something like that. He's a good dude, works hard, and he prices fairly.

Reference picture *snip* I don't have my chest done, but I'd assume it's going to be bad, especially in the middle. Price range, altogether I'd expect to pay $1500 and up. That said, as big as you want it, you might have to do several sittings with the line work and all of that color. I wouldn't recommend one session. Also, consider this - my hand alone took four hours. I'd expect your chest, with that artwork to take anywhere from 9 hours, to 12 total. As far as good artists in Chicago, I'll tell you what I tell everyone. Get out and do the research and leg work. It's how I found everyone I've had that has worked on me. Look through portfolios, while in the shop if anyone is apprenticing or just working the desk ask if the artists there have worked on them, ask to see that work. It might be strange, but it's physical proof right there in the flesh if they tattoo worth a damn. Chicago is a damn big city, I'm sure with a TON of very talented artists. At the very least get on Facebook and search around and look at their online albums of work. The last piece of advice I have for you, is that you might want to get something smaller to start with. So you have an idea of what a tattoo feels like, before deciding you want to commit to something that large. Make sure you can tolerate the pain that comes with it, you don't want to be that doofus people laugh at with a quarter of an outline done. And finally, a more evenly lit picture of my hand.  |
