Man, if it is true that Tony Halme has passed away, then I am in utter shock right now. I just can't believe it. I made this thread back on Dec. 22nd and now just a few short weeks later, he apparently has passed away....I am just stunned right now.... Let's hope this isn't the start of a Blast from the Past curse. and if it is then let's get a blast from the past of The Disco Inferno. RIP Ludvig. I was a fan of his short run in the WWE. 47 is too young to die.

There's been WAY too many thus far and I have a feeling there will be many more. 2010 is already off to a bad start for wrestling deaths...I pray to God I am wrong, but I have a horrible feeling I'm right...

There's been WAY too many thus far and I have a feeling there will be many more. 2010 is already off to a bad start for wrestling deaths...I pray to God I am wrong, but I have a horrible feeling I'm right... Ludvig's death is yet another death before the age of 50 of a former prominent Japanese wrestling talent from the early to mid 90's. - Gary Albright died in Janurary of 2000 at the age of 36. Held the AJPW Unified Tag Titles with Stan Hansen & Dr Death in the mid 90's. - Jumbo Tsuruta died in May of 2000 at the age of 49. Held the AJPW Triple Crown twice during the early 90's. - Terry "Bam Bam" Gordy died in July of 2001 just months after turning 40. He held the AJPW Triple Crown title in 1990 and formed a dominate Tag Team with Dr. Death that held the AJPW Unified World Tag Titles several times in the early 90's. - Davey Boy Smith died in May of 2002 at the age of 39. Along with Dynamite Kid they were regulars in Japan during the 80's and into 1990. - Hiromichi Fuyuki died in March of 2003 at the age of 42. Held AJPW All Asia Tag Titles with Kawada several times in the 80's and into 1990, eventually helped popularize hardcore wrestling in Frontier Martial-Arts Wrestling. - Road Warrior Hawk died in October of 2003 at the age of 46. In late 92 until late 94 he and Kensuke dominated the tag team scene in Japan holding the IWGP Tag Titles twice while feuding with Scot Norton & Borga, and then Norton and Hercules. - Hercules Hernandez died in March of 2004 at the age of 47. Along with Scot Norton he held the IWGP Tag Titles in 1993. - Shinya Hashimoto died in July of 2005 days after turning 40. Held the IWGP Heavyweight Championship 3 times during the early to mid 90's. - Eddie Guerrero died in November of 2005 at the age of 38. Won the Best of the Super Juniors Tourny in 96 and along with Benoit helped popularize JW Wrestling. - Bam Bam Bigelow died in Janurary of 2007 at the age of 45. Held IWGP Tag Titles with Vader in 1992 just 8 months before Borga & Scott Norton would win the titles. - Mike Awesome died in Feburary of 2007 at the age of 42. Was a top American talent if FMW. - Chris Benoit died in June of 2007 at the age of 40. Held the IWGP Junior HW Championship in the early 90's and helped popularize Junior Weight wrestling. - Misawa died in June of 2009 at the age of 46. Held the AJPW Triple Crown several times during the 90's. - "Dr. Death" Steve Williams died in December of 2009 at the age of 49. Held the AJPW Triple Crown in 94, and held the AJPW Unified Tag Titles with Terry Gordy, Stan Hansen & Vader. - Ludvig Borga died today at the age of 47. Held the IWGP Tag Titles with Scot Norton prior to joining the WWF in 1993. And while not dead, Dynamite Kid and Hayabusa both had their careers cut short due to crippling injuries. Hayabusa's in the ring during a FMW match in 2001 and Dynamites after years of abuse in the ring, with a large portion of it coming in Japan. I know the media gets on Vince McMahon because all of the deaths of his former talent, but I think Japanese Wrestling and the stiff, violent and high flying style that became extremely popular during the early 90's is just as big a culprit for early deaths in wrestling.

The only ones of those that you can really blame on Japanese wrestling are Hashimoto, Misawa and Awesome. The rest were either from drugs, cancer, disease, suicide, heart attack or boxing injuries that pushed them too far. Hashimoto had severe headaches days prior to his death that could be blamed on too many head shots. Everyone knows what happened to Misawa. Awesome's brain was completely screwed up from chair shots from Masato Tanaka (and others) in both FMW and ECW. So he killed himself.

I'm sorry, but I just had to add this to this thread. I just found a rare clip of Ludvig Borga winning the Intercontinental belt from Razor Ramon. He would have made a great I-C champ if they let him run with it. It's a shame they didn't. None the less, he had a cup of coffee as the I-C champ. *Edit* And for the hell of it, here's a tribute to the late Ludvig Borga.

I think its now confirmed that he committed suicide......very sad indeed. If that is true, then that is truly sad to hear. I mean, why do people end up that way, when they think there is no other way out other than to take their own life?? I just don't get it... And only 47 years old...It's truly a shame Ludvig had to die so young. He, like so MANY others in wrestling, should've lived for another 30-40 years, at the least. But their lives were all cut short for one reason or another.

The 90's guys especially and I blame it the fans thirst for "workrate" thanks to the popularity of 90's Japanese Wrestling that influenced American Indy promotions which obviously trickled into the major feds resulting in fans becoming spoiled with highspots and chairshots which results in physical problems that create health and metal issues and in turn lead to early retirement & ultimately early death.
Look at Jake Roberts, he is a well known drug abuser and is still alive, how many chairshots has he taken? How many big bumps? And Roberts is still ticking. The one time he took a risky hit with a foreign object was against the Honkey Tonk Man, and that resulted in Roberts sustaining the injury that would lead him into addiction brought on by self medication.
Less moves, no chair-shots = a longer lifespan.

Here is some information on Ludvig Borga's IC Title "Win" WWF @ Lowell, MA - Auditorium - December 14, 1993 (2,500; sell out)WWF WWF IC Champion Razor Ramon defeated Ludvig Borga via reverse decision at 10:08; Borga originally won the match and title at 6:58 following a clothesline off the top but referee Earl Hebner noticed after the pinfall that Razor's foot was on the bottom rope during the cover so the contest was ruled to continue; Borga scored a second pinfall after Hebner was knocked out and Shawn Michaels ran out and hit Razor over the back with the fake IC title belt as the champion attempted the Razor's Edge; after Borga was named the new champion, referee Joey Marella came out and told Hebner what happened, with Hebner then changing the call; Borga then returned to the ring but was knocked to the floor by Razor, with Ramon then holding up both his IC title and Michaels' fake IC title in victory (Inside the WWF) Source: www.thehistoryofwwe.com/93.htm

It still would have been nice if they let Ludvig run with it though.
