Hey,
I am back again with another "Blast From The Past" for ya all. Here we've got the "Hellraiser from Helsinki", the one and only, Ludvig Borga.
If I remember correctly, he started out in the Universal Wrestling Federation under the name The Viking. No relation to The Berzerker either.
Then, he made his way to the W.W.F. in 1993 and started a feud with The Native American Tatanka. Now, Tatanka had remained undefeated for over a year, but it was with one finger that Ludvig Borga had put a stop to it.
However, for those that recall that match like I do, Mr. Fuji had made his way down to ringside and distracted referee Danny Davis while both Borga and Tatanka brawled on the arena floor.
Behind the referee's back, Borga grabbed a ringside chair and clobbered Tatanka with it and he was out. Borga rolled Tatanka back inside the ring and pinned him with one finger!! Thus, ending Tatanka's impressive undefeated streak which he held for well over one year.
Then, Borga made his way to SummerSlam and took on and defeated former W.W.F. Intercontinental champion Marty Jannetty by submission in the Torture-rack.
After that, Ludvig Borga made it to the 1993 Survivor Series and teamed with Crush, Yokozuna and Jacques of The Quebecers as part of The Foreign Fanatics to take on The All-Americans which consisted of "Made in the U.S.A." Lex Luger, The Undertaker, and Rick & Scott The Steiner Brothers.
Needless to say, Ludvig Borga did not survive that night. He was eliminated by Luger after the running forearm smash.
Ludvig Borga severely injured his ankle in a match with Rick Steiner, which cancelled any & all plans the W.W.F. had for him at the time.
Borga even had his own action figure in the rare & sought after final "Green carded" series in the W.W.F. Hasbro line.
He left the W.W.F. not long after and even made his way to the UFC under his real name, Tony Halme. At UFC #13 he took on a newcomer to MMA, Randy Couture. You might have heard of him somewhere.
Needless to say, it did not work out to well for Halme. It was a short night and Couture polished him off in a little over 1 minute.
After that, he headed back to Finland and worked in the Parliament.
For those that have seen the movie, he had a small role in Die Hard: With a Vengeance.
Overall, I did not mind Borga as a wrestler. I actually enjoyed his work and especially his entrance theme.
So, there you have it. Another "Blast From The Past" in the books. As always, share your memories or thoughts of Ludvig Borga right here!!
