I've seen a few people complain about the price of these figures. Personally, I think they're worth every penny. If we were to pay the same price we were paying for Jakks' figures, we would be getting the quality Jakks was giving us; Unpainted backs, missing logos and tattoos, etc.
I'm guessing right now, they're probably just trying to collect back what they've invested. Store's usually sell items under the MSRP anyways. My local Wal-Mart is selling the RA figures for $4.99, although they're extremely slow at ordering new sets, and are about 8 months behind.
The problem with Jakks is that they've been reporting quarterly losses frequently over the past 3 years. They're losing money, there-for the product quality has to take a hit.
Mattel is a much larger and more well-known company than Jakks. With a product like WWE, they will be pulling in an astonishing amount of revenue. This will lead to a more consistent quality between different releases.
If the Mattel figures sell well for the first few shipments and they make a good amount of profit, we may see a drop in price, which will lead to even more purchases from people who can't exactly afford $9.99.
My only suggestion to you, the consumer, is to buy them up! It will only benefit us in the future.

I was a bit thrown off by the price at first, thinking the Elite figs would be more in line with DCU figs (about $13 a piece at my local Walmart - a dollar or so off of DAs). I don't mind the higher price to get guys that make sense next to each other, size-wise, and the MUCH greater attention to detail. Just the fact that they're not "re-heads" is worth the price of admission to me.
I can see why Jakks would lose money. The Walmarts here in AL are way behind on WWE figs. We've got racks and racks of Armando Estradas and Matt Strykers. Every now and then a DA Koslov or something will pop up somewhere, but they're just not ordering new figs. I think retailers see how many Highlander two-packs they STILL have and get a little scared about ordering new stuff from Jakks. Hopefully that same rep won't carry over to Mattel.
