So obviously Mattel is not allowed to show off their new protos until January 1st, because Jakks still is contracted with WWE. But what if WWE showed the protos on their website or at events, like saying hey this is what our figures are going to look like soon. Would they be able to do that?

The people who are saying that they can't show their prototypes until January 1st are idiots. Plain and simple.
Mattel just HASN'T shown their prototypes yet. They will more than likely do so at either Pre-Toy Fair, or RingsideFest in October. Just as I have it on good authority that Jakks will be revealing their TNA line in October.
They are legally able to show them. They have to actually PROMOTE what they plan on releasing on January 1st.

Legally it depends on what a contract states. They may not be able to if they have it in the contract that they cannot release images of the items before hand.
Mysterman, whoever you are, stop the BS. I have access to DVDs sometimes months before they are released to the public but legally I can't even take a picture of them and show them to someone else because of the contracts certain companies have in place so stop trying to sound like you "know" that WWE could show them.
Jakks can reveal their protos of TNA figures probably because TNA allowed it and WWE never put it in writing that they couldn't showcase images or items of opposing feds because it never came about.

I would think if Mattel couldn't show images, that the protos and even the shadowed figure pic they released recently would be in violation of that...
I am anxious for RSF...

Thank you for having some common sense, Hacker.
While the recent protos were a leak, and not revealed by Mattel (directly), that's one thing.
But the advertisement.....if there was a hold against revealing anything, we wouldn't have seen that. Like I said, they are legally allowed to show their prototypes. They just haven't yet.

Mystery man is right, legally they can show them if they would like, WWE is all about promotion and the more they get to promote their new figs the better, so obviously WWE would allow them. Mattel just doesnt want to show them yet because they might be afraid of what the fans think of them without a paint job.

I think it could be a case of mattel been respectful to jakks and knowing they are still selling wrestling figures so they will wait until they get there last protos ect out then mattel will start showing there's, most likely at the next big event closest to the new year.

Wow, I can't wait until you see that I'm right, so I can rub it in your fat, grubby little face. Wow you basically have no concept of the word contractual limitations. You can put out images of a product shadowed or even put out protos to the public if a stated contract wording implies that you can't put out a finished product. IE when a product image is shown on Amazon.com or when DVD covers are released, they are still subject to change from the final product and are really meant as teasers. A prototype "leaked" or even publicly shown doesn't technically break a contract unless it is shown as a final product which is why WFigs can show protos but if they have MOC product and are asked to not show them until release date, they have to legally follow that even if they have MOC product before the release date, which technically they should. So no you aren't gonna rub anything in my face because you aren't right. You don't work for Mattel and you obviously have no understanding of basic contract negotiations. Mystery man is right, legally they can show them if they would like, WWE is all about promotion and the more they get to promote their new figs the better, so obviously WWE would allow them. Mattel just doesnt want to show them yet because they might be afraid of what the fans think of them without a paint job. How would you know this? No one on this board has seen the contracts written up nor has seen any inclination that Mattel has any restrictions from Jakks in terms of product demonstration. You are all assuming that because a proto image was released that Mattel could flaunt their final product out to the public. If it states in contracts that final product showcasing is not allowed but any thing less then that may be shown to the consumers, then no technically he isn't right. Look at protos of shirts or DVDs when cover art is released and then the final product turns out to be different. Technically the final product is all that matters to most business' and in most cases they don't care if protos or art work is released of projects, they mostly care about competitive final product showcases. This is why at most conventions you will hardly see things MOC. They will always be loose so that if they are contractually obligated to not show case final product, they can get away with the whole "oh it's just a prototype/loose" product.
