In late 1999, they placed the WWF Championship on Big Show, yet he spent a large part of his two-month reign on SmackDown and HeAT, facing lower-card workers like Viscera and Big Bossman.
But what were they trying to accomplish, here? I just don't understand.

I think they were trying to make him look dominate, as I think he debuted at that time.

the idea was to feed him various big guys in order to make him look good. by all accounts big show's first title reign was a failure as he was behind rock and foley on the babyface depth chart and had already turned face and heel a million times in not even a full year in the WWF.

Very refreshing change to see Show win the belt though. Huge surprise, too.

it's hard to believe watching wrestlemania 15, that the bigshow would come back the next year with the title.

If they would have taken a page from a book wcw used, and booked Show as the son or off spring of Andre...Maybe even "trained" by Andre....it would given him a little more of a push. The simple fact that they named him "Big Show" pretty much promised failure

Obviously, the main rivalry, at that time was HHH/McMahon, so perhaps, they just gave it Big Show, to give time for HHH's rise e.g Getting Steph & Taking over the company. Which then culminated in HHH winning the title in Jan. 2000.

The simple fact that they named him "Big Show" pretty much promised failure They doomed him from the moment they debuted him. His debut cost the man he was working for his main event match against his arch enemy. Right away, he was a screw up. Then, he screwed up for Vince at Wrestlemania 15 again before turning face.

the funny thing is the rumor at the time, and there's a lot of evidence to show for it (i think mick foley even put it in 'foley is good'), is that the WWF originally really wanted Austin vs. Show at WM 2000. it would basically be the new era version of hogan vs. andre, but as hugo said, russo's booking managed to kill paul wight right out of the gate. plus i believe they even had austin go over show on an episode of raw.

Yeah, at one point they had a different ring name for him, too. TITAN. As in, Titan Towers... Titan Sports... Vince McMahon's corporate giant. Boy, would that have gotten over.

Titan's kinda brutal, but I believe they also really considered Big Nasty which is just flat out awful.

Yes he did have a match wtf are you talking about, he jobbed against austin cleanly. He was really wasted because he was coming in with ths monster gimmick, total badass and they just flopped him
