They looked a lot tougher, wannabes or not. The silver and black was a cool look for the time. PLUS they had Mr. Fuji, and I'd take him over Paul Ellering any day.

first out I just want to say Im a HUGE mark for Hawk and Animal-love them.so Im not putting them down in any way here. theres a couple of things special about them-yeah they started out as Vinces version of The Road Warriors when Hawk and Animal wouldnt jump ship in 87 but they soon outgrew that...... it must have been one of the first times that Vince had to turn Heels face because of the crowd reaction.they were widely cheered over Strike Force at WM4.same with the Powers of Pain who were initially faces.there was also plenty fo cheers for them at SS88 when they faced the Hart Foundation-I think this is what led Vince to turn them their Music was awesome-one of the best entrance tunes to this day the first team to get the tag straps 3 times since the Wild Samoans-goes to show what Vince thought of them they regularly solicited the second best pop of the night after Hogan(this includes the Ultimate Warrior)see WM5,SS89,WM6 for further evidence of this. they regularly had good matches with smaller teams(something LOD struggled with)see their matches with Hart Foundation,British Bulldogs,Rockers,Brainbusters for more evidence of this they routinely carried larger(less useful athletes) throughout 89.in the 6 man at Summerslam 89 when they are partnered with Hacksaw against Twin Towers and Andre they carry that match and sell like mother ers.same with the Powers of Pain. I also found their style to be more bruising than LODs. thats just my take on it.but its like everything one mans treasure is another mans trash.......and Demolition is one of my treasures

LOD were what they were, they were watered down in the WWF, but Demolition managed to pull it off better. The way i see it. ATTIRE: LOD = mint spikes, face paint, red/black DEMO = ENTIRE entrance suit, better face paint, black/silver MUSIC: LOD = really cool music DEMO = even cooler music MIC WORK: LOD = Hawk was a great talker, animal was good at shouting DEMO = AX, very similar level to Hawk IMO, Smash, better than animal MANAGER: LOD: Paul DEMO: Fuji (the best) STYLE: LOD: GREAT strong men DEMO: GREAT strong men, i think they were better at selling and their double team attack seamed more imense, explosive, if you will. Demolition still wrestle on the indy scene, LEGENDS. I love LOD, but man, Demolition raised the bar. You are aloud to like both.

The pop for their win at WrestleMania 6 was insane. And to think that after another huge PPV match (vs. Hart Foundation, Summerslam, 2-out-of-3 falls), they'd be basically forced into jobber status by the arrival of the LOD.
Like the Road Warriors, I appreciate Demolition for what they were. There were better teams technically, there were powerhouse teams with more muscles, but for sheer entertainment value, Demolition had more of a complete package. As someone else already said, Demolition (except for Crush, but I'm just talking about the Darsow & Eadie version of Demolition here) were good enough to carry a match if they had to... Road Warriors, not so much.

DUD DONT BE PISSED am trying to like them trust me i just wanted to know why people say they were good and stiff Why am i pissed? You aksed a question and i answered it. Nothing pissed about that. If your refering to the first and last sentence, its not pissed. Its simply pointing out: a) they were the best of their kind in many peoples eyes, you said "all i see are chubby LOD wannabes" & "the ones i saw there awful". Those kind of comments could be flame worthy. Anyway, most like them, but some dont understand why late 80's early 90's wrestling is great, demoltion are one of those teams that the majority who watched wrestling back then loved.

Demolition's appeal at the time was nothing more than the look to be honest. Face painted wrestlers were really over at the time.
Looking back, they look like they're clad in S&M attire.

I was a kid when Demolition was at their peak, and I can remember being intimidated by their look and brutality in the ring.

Ax and Smash were great together. Everyone says they are an LOD rip off, in which yea I can see why some people saying that. I would rather thing that LOD just spawned an idea of a new tag team. Its like saying the Rockers were a rip off of Midnight Express/RnR Express...They just spawned from the idea to me. Now the Powers of Pain....THAT was a rip of of LOD if there ever was one

Demolition's appeal at the time was nothing more than the look to be honest. Face painted wrestlers were really over at the time. Really thats how I feel. They were still a great team no doubt about it. I guess I prefer LOD simply on the fact that I was more exposed to them. By the time I saw Demolition as a kid they were on their way out the door and I really don't remember watching them at all until later on when I saw tapes of them as such. Today I can say they were certainly great and unique. But I wouldn't say they were rip offs of anyone.

Today I can say they were certainly great and unique. But I wouldn't say they were rip offs of anyone. Yeah... I'd agree with that to an extent. I mean they were clearly intended to be Vince's version of the Road Warriors when it all started. Actually, I've read in the past that they were intended to be a serious team (and they were pushed as such for sure), but that their gimmick was a slight mockery of the Road Warriors, which explains why they went with a more S&M look and used a couple of burly-looking guys instead of dudes with rippling muscles (and they definitely could have found a couple guys with that look in 1987). After a year or so, however, Demolition became a relatively unique team, other than the facepaint and leather look. Especially once the Powers of Pain became prominent starting in late 1987, because the PoP looked like way bigger LOD ripoffs than Demolition ever did.

Yeah POP were total Road Warriors ripoffs.
their tights were identical with the names and such down the sides.
Demolition took their cue from Hawk and Animal by going to Mad Max 2:the Road Warrior for ideas.and of course they obviously were copying the Humungous from that movie

they had great dynamics against the other teams in the wwf at the time: they weren't as big as the natural disasters, they outmuscled the hart foundation and were great opposites of the rockers.

i never dug wrestlers with face paint.
the only thing i enjoyed about Demolition was their entrance video. that was some hilarious stuff.
