4/25/09 Edition -At least one Championship is expected to change hands at Backlash, maybe two. No word on which Title/s it will be. -Expect the Edge/Shane rivalry to last through Judgment Day in some sort of tag team match, with Vickie getting an enforcer for Edge and Shane hand picking a partner. -One of ECW's top draft picks will get an ECW Title shot at Judgment Day. That's all that is confirmed for right now. -It's offical that the WWE is bringing back King of the Ring as a Pay-Per-View in June. It will replace One Night Stand and take place on June 7th.

Nice opening, lots of stuff happened well written, Helms young yeah right, Kendrick wins yes! Kendrick dancing mark out! Benj has a golden case awsome, meh divas match still Bulldogs whoo! Sad Kennedy didn't get a win but Kane needs to be put over, does Bearer need to be with Kane now? MVP over Benjamin! rather Benjamn go over but your building up the feud so thats fine, DX yay nice booking esp with them facing each other, should be epic. I say this is HOF worthy, keep this up!

- D Generation X one off reunion is pretty solid, be interesting to see what happens. - Opening segment was what it was, surprised that Edge didn't hit the con chair toe. - Nice Shelton promo, not digging its place on the card however. - Fair opening contest, nice to see Gail Kim getting the pinfall. TJ and DH as tag champions is fantastic. - Kane vs Mr. Kennedy was a solid match, really put Kane over as a monster. I actually see Kane winning the title at Backlash, part of me hopes he does but the other part is loving Hardy's reign with the title. - Just noticed Kendrick/Helms was the opener, haha, ah well. To lazy to edit the rest of the post. Fantastic to see Kendrick win the title. - TBK's interview was fine, heres hoping he has a nice long reign. - Diva's match at Backlash kind of over fills the card in my opinion. Sure to be a great match though. - MVP vs Shelton Benjamin never dissapoints, plus it's great to see MVP get the win. - Nice reasoning behind not delivering the Con Chair To, Last Man Standing is sure to be a great match. - Main event was worthy of its title, all four are big names. Surprising hug to end the show, was somewhat expecting a sudden Triple H heel turn.
Looking forward to Backlash, Kev.

- Solid opening segment with Shane being attacked by Edge. - Really like that Kendrick won the belt. I wonder if Helms will get elevated to upper midcard ranks. - Good win for Kane over Kennedy. - MVP/Benjamin is a fantastic match up. Would have liked to see Benjamin win, though. - Main Event was predictable. Would have rather seen HBK in a singles match for his last SD match. - Seemed like a stacked SD edition. Good show. Backlash should be a fun read.

Nice opening segment, interesting how Edge stopped before the one man con-chair-to. Kendrick as the United States Champion is sweet, hopefully he gets a nice lengthy reign with the belt. Not a big fan of the intergender tag match tbh. I'm liking Kane as a monster heel, but I dont like how Kennedy had to job. Good to see MVP going over, and I really hope Benjamin drops the Money in the Bank to either MVP or Kennedy, who could carry a brand better. Good main event, but I was expecting something longer for Michaels last tv match.

Congratulations on the Spotlight diary win. RAW...Good opening promo to kick off WWE RAW this week, I like the sound of CM Punk's feud with John Bradshaw Layfield, perhaps it'll lead to Punk properly getting into the main event scene, could start the journey for Punk, anyways. Fantastic opening contest with Chris Jericho beating CM Punk, didn't like that it was a clean victory, however. Interesting match with Beth Phoenix retaining the WWE Womens Championship against Kelly Kelly, I never really liked Kelly. JBL beating Rey Mysterio seems fine, but wasn't as good as their matches have been in the past, me thinks. Still not enjoying the ring name 'The Technicians'. Seemed very predictable if I'm honest, but good match anyways. Decent handicap main event, made sense for John Cena and Shawn Michaels to overcome the Legacy.
Hmm, yeah, not really a big fan of John Morrison and The Miz cutting a promo to start off ECW on Sci-Fi, if it did I'd of preferred seeing a good match too to kick off the show involving the World Tag Team Champions. Good defense of the ECW Television Championship by Jack Swagger, beating Evan Bourne, they seem to fight alot in your diary, always a good match. I like the team combination of Hade Vansen and Tyler Black, then two beating Cryme Tyme is fantastic. I hate JTG and Shad Gaspard. Shawn Michaels beating Elijah Burke is predictable, in an awesome main event.
Good opening promo to kick off SmackDown this week, but I'm not big on the idea of a promo kicking off every single show of the week, however. Getting hyped for Backlash, to be honest. Wow, The Brian Kendrick winning the WWE United States Championship is suprising, I hope you get rid of Ezekiel Jackson though, I despise him and think he's lagging Kendrick's career. Decent mixed tag team match, Gail Kim and Festus winning is fine by me. Kane beating Mr Kennedy is fine, seemed like a good first-hour main event worthy match to me. Montel Vontavious Porter over Shelton Benjamin is good, seemed decent. Swear I've seen D-Generation X over Edge and Umaga before, decent main event and farewell to Shawn Michaels.

(Credit: Jason Star for all match graphics) April 26th, 2009 Dunkin’ Donuts Center in Providence, Rhode Island Attendance: 13,993
Backlash opens with a video package that shows Randy Orton & John Cena’s recent history and rivalry over the World Heavyweight Championship. It then shows Kane & Jeff Hardy’s recent issues over the WWE Championship. After that the video cuts away and begins to show moments in the career of Shawn Michaels and finally we cut to the arena where the opening fireworks display goes off.
The three announce teams welcome us to the sold out Dunkin’ Donuts Center in Rhode Island and give us a quick rundown of the card. Michael Cole & Jerry "The King" Lawler take over as a Raw match will kick off tonight’s Pay-Per-View.Revenge Match: Rey Mysterio vs. Chris JerichoChris Jericho was the first one out and he was greeted by a chorus of boos. Rey Mysterio came out next and got a loud pop. Mysterio started out on fire as he just seemed hell bent on hurting Jericho for taking out his friend, Batista. He came at him with rights and lefts and followed that up with a big dropkick, which sent Jericho to the outside to retreat. Mysterio nailed him with a baseball slide. He then got on the apron and went for an Asai moonsault, but Jericho moved and Mysterio hit the guardrail. This allowed Jericho to take over and slow down the match. He brought Mysterio back inside and worked him over with some submissions and stuff. After a little while of that, Jericho dropped him with the Breakdown, a move he hasn’t pulled out in years, yet just got a two count. He picked up his smaller opponent and drilled him with a double underhook back breaker for another two. Jericho picked him up and Mysterio quickly nailed him in the gut and hit him with a bulldog. He went to the apron and hit his springboard splash, but only got a two. He got back in the ring and sent Jericho off the ropes and tripped him up with a drop toe hold and Jericho landed in perfect 619 position. He ran off the ropes and hit it perfectly. Jericho stumbled back and Mysterio went for the West Coast Pop, but Jericho caught him and powerbombed him down. He then locked in the Walls of Jericho and Mysterio was forced to tap out. Winner by submision: Chris Jericho (13:55) ***¾The crowd boos loudly as Jericho walks away as the winner and he taunts the crowd as he walks up the ramp. We now go to the back once again to see a dark room with a red light. In the corner of the room we see Kevin Thorn standing with Gangrel behind him. Tyler Black and Hade Vansen are kneeling down at their sides. Thorn cuts a promo saying that The Brood has already started making waves on ECW and that their reign of terror will continue for a long time and will end when Thorn has the ECW Title around his waist.
We then cut to a short video showing highlights of Shawn Michaels’ career as a member of the Rockers with Marty Jannetty.Grudge Match: CM Punk vs. John “Bradshaw” LayfieldA white limousine pulls up in the entryway and out steps JBL to a loud chorus of boos as he once again, draws a crapload of heat. Punk follows and once again receives a loud ovation from this capacity crowd. JBL began the match by using his power advantage and working over Punk’s neck. He used a neck wrench and a swinging neck breaker. Punk attempted to get some offense going but JBL stopped his momentum by poking him in the eye. He continued to work over Punk until Punk hit a step-up enziguri and sent JBL to the outside. Punk waited for him to get up, went for a suicide dive but JBL moved and Punk hit the guardrail. JBL slid back in the ring as the referee began to make the count. He made it all the way up to nine before Punk barely managed to get in. JBL quickly put the boots to him and hit a fallaway slam yet only got a two count. JBL argued with the referee and when he turned around Punk rolled him into a small package, yet only got a two. Both men got up at the same time and Punk, being quicker, struck first and hit JBL with some slaps and kicks. He then threw him into the corner and nailed a stiff knee to the face and followed with a bulldog. He covered and again only got a two. He picked up JBL and threw him into the ropes, JBL ducked a clothesine and went for his Clothesline from Hell but Punk ducked and got him on his shoulders. He brought him down with a GTS for the win. Winner: CM Punk (8:18) ***We cut to the back after seeing Punk celebrate his victory, and we see Shane McMahon warming up for his match later. There’s a knock at the door and in steps his sister and father, Stephanie & Vince. Vince just wishes him good luck tonight, but Stephanie is very concerned. She says that she’s seen Edge do some heinous things in his time and she doesn’t want any of that to happen to him tonight. Shane says not to worry because he can take care of himself and he promises to leave in one piece tonight and to take out Edge.
We cut to a video of HBK again, this time it shows the infamous Barber Shop scene where he threw Marty Jannetty through a window.Divas Championship: Natalya Neidhart (c) vs. Gail KimGail Kim made her way out first to a very nice ovation from the crowd and she was followed by the Champion, Natalya, who got mostly boos. These two fantastic female athletes put on a hell of a show, and it made for the best women’s match this year. Natalya worked her over on the mat until Kim worked out of it and nailed a big flying head scissors which sent the Champ to the outside. Natalya got back in the ring, but Kim delivered a spear to her for a two count. Kim was going to climb to the top but Natalya chop blocked her. She began to work over Gail’s leg but first, she hit a snap suplex. As she was working on Kim’s leg, Kim rolled her into a small package but only got a two count. They got up at the same time and Kim nailed her with a European uppercut, then swept out her feet and attempted to lock on a Cloverleaf, but Natalya broke free. After some more action, Natalya locked on the Sharpshooter, but Kim managed to reach the ropes. Natalya picked her up, and went for a clothesline but Kim ducked and caught her with the Happy Ending (neck breaker slam) and covered to win. Winner and NEW Divas Champion: Gail Kim (7:03) ***Gail Kim celebrated with her new Title along with the crowd while Natalya rolled out of the ring. Next, we get a commercial showing an ad for Judgment Day next month. We then cut to John Morrison and The Miz being interviewed in the back. They say that while they’re not on tonight’s show, they will be in action tomorrow night, and they will once again retain their World Tag Team Titles and survive the draft again. They finish it off by saying that they’re former WWE Tag Team Champions, 2 time Slammy & 2 time Dirty Award winners and the longest reigning Champions in the WWE currently. BE JEALOUS!
Once again, we see a video of Shawn Michaels. This one, showing clips of the two ladder matches with Razor Ramon over the Intercontinental Championship.Money in the Bank Briefcase: Shelton Benjamin vs. Mr. Kennedy vs. Montel Vontavious Porter w/ EveMVP was the first man out, most likely to really get the crowd pumped early on as they really popped for him. Kennedy followed out to one of his best crowd reactions since his return back in January. “The Gold Standard” came to the ring last, with his gold briefcase in hand, to mostly boos. He showed off the briefcase before the bell rang. Once it rang, Kennedy and MVP took it to Benjamin for his pre-match showboating. Both men worked over the current briefcase holder until Kennedy clubbed MVP in the back. Kennedy knocked him over the top rope with a clothesline. He turned right into Shelton who nailed him with a power slam. These two went at it for a few, with Shelton holding an advantage by highlighted by hitting a powerbomb and dragon whip kick. MVP got back in the ring and took it to Shelton with some of his key spots. Eventually, Kennedy joined in the fray and the match really picked up as each man brought their A game. Shelton hit the Shell Bomb in the corner onto MVP and Kennedy followed it up by running off the ropes and facewashing him. Kennedy high fived Shelton, who kicked him in the stomach and hit him with the Paydirt. He covered but MVP pulled him off and began to fight with him. He hit the Player’s Boot onto Shelton and then nailed Kennedy with the Drive By and covered. 1….2…but Shelton pulls him off. He delivers a stiff kick to MVP’s head and then falls back and covers Kennedy for the three. Winner and Still Money in the Bank Briefcase Holder: Shelton Benjamin (14:34) ***½The crowd booed loudly at Benjamin keeping his briefcase. Shelton grabbed a microphone and said that every other Money in the Bank Briefcase holder has either defended their briefcase once or not at all, so he’s done defending it. He says the only time you will see him hand over his golden briefcase is when he gives it to the referee and cashes in. He ends the promo by saying that it might even happen tonight.
We then cut to the back where Elijah Burke is being interviewed. They ask him about Benjamin saying that he might cash in his title shot tonight, to which Burke says that it doesn’t matter because he will keep his title no matter what. Then he ends the promo by talking smack about Matt Hardy and saying that Matt will lose his first Extreme Rules match tonight.
Another Shawn Michaels hype video, this one is of his 1995 & 1996 Royal Rumble victories. We then get a video package showcasing what’s gone down between Matt Hardy and ECW Champion Elijah Burke, over the past few weeks.Extreme Rules for the ECW Championship: Elijah Burke (c) vs. Matt HardyMatt Hardy makes his way to the ring first to a big ovation, but the crowd quickly changes once the ECW Champion comes out. These two go right at each other with Matt holding the early advantage. As expected, with this being an Extreme Rules match, the two wrestlers took it to the outside. While out there Matt nailed Burke with a garbage can and a steel chair. He went under the ring and pulled out a ladder. He put it in the ring but Burke nailed him in the back. He whipped him into the guardrail and ran in and clotheslined Matt into the crowd. They battled through the crowd for a while but eventually worked their way back to the ring. Burke rolled him into the ring and got a singapore cane from under the ring. He waited for Matt to get up and nailed him right between the eyes. He covered but Matt got his foot on the bottom rope. Burke was frustrated at this and set up the ladder. He began to climb but Matt hit him a few times and managed to deliver a powerbomb with Burke up a few rungs. He covered and Burke kicked out. Matt climbed up about halfway and went for the big leg drop that he used to win at the Royal Rumble but Elijah moved out of the way. He moved the ladder and leaned it against the turnbuckle. He then whipped Matt into it and he hit sternum first. Burke ran in and nailed the Elijah Express, driving Matt’s chest into the ladder. He covered and picked up the huge win. Winner and Still ECW Champion: Elijah Burke (16:08) ****¼Burke celebrated with the ECW Title as he went up the ramp, to a chorus of boos. EMTs came out to check on Matt, who looked to be shaken up. In the back, we see Jeff Hardy watching on a monitor looking worried for his brother. Justin Roberts comes into the room and interviews Jeff about his match tonight. Jeff says that right now he’s just worried about his brother, but that’s not going to stop him from proving the doubters wrong again and retaining his title against Kane tonight.
Once again, a Shawn Michaels promo, this one showing the boyhood dream coming true as he defeated Bret Hart for the World Title at WrestleMania XII.
Next, we see a video package showing Edge and Shane McMahon going through their differences as of late. It started with Edge Spearing Shane on The Cutting Edge and everything since then.Last Man Standing: Edge vs. Shane McMahon“So I’m Coming Home…” is heard as Edge makes his way out to the ring to his usual mixed reaction. Shane O’ Mac is next and gets a great crowd reaction like he always does when he decides to wrestle. This match started with a bang as Edge ran up and met Shane on the ramp. They traded fists with Shane getting the better and they battled back to the ring. Edge turned the tide when he threw Shane into the ring apron. He rammed his head into the turnbuckle and then fought with him towards the announce table. Edge got a chair and went to hit Shane but he kicked him in the gut and nailed Edge with it. Shane then cleared off the Raw announce table and placed Edge onto it. He climbed to the top rope and dove off for his patented elbow drop, but Edge moved and Shane crashed and burned. Edge got to his feet and the referee began to make the count. He made it all the way to eight before Shane got to his feet. Edge immediately pounced on Shane and attacked him. He hit him a bunch of times and even nailed him in the back with a steel chair. Shane was down for about a five count. Edge swung the chair again but Shane ducked and dropkicked it into Edge’s face. Shane rolled inside the ring and Edge got up around six. Edge got in the ring and they brawled for a while longer until Shane climbed to the top. Edge bounced off the ropes, causing Shane to fall to the outside. He got up at the seven count and got onto the apron. Edge then attempted to Spear him through the ropes and off the apron but Shane moved out of the way and Edge crashed on the outside. Edge managed to get up at the nine count though. Shane went outside and the two brawled some more, but this time it was up the ramp. They made it to the top and Shane threw Edge into the stage face first. This brought out Curt Hawkins and Zack Ryder but Shane stopped them in their tracks by laying them out with a chair. Out came Chavo as well but he was met with the same fate. Shane was then low blowed by Edge. Edge crawled away and then connected with a huge Spear that nearly knocked Shane off the ramp but he somehow managed to land on the stage. Edge meanwhile was taken over the ramp by his own momentum. Shane got up with the referee’s count around seven and told him to stop counting. He climbed up part of the stage and was prepared to dive off. Out came Stephanie to try and plead with her brother to not jump. He looked down at Edge’s lifeless body and drilled him with a huge elbow drop. The referee began to count again and reached ten before either man could get up. No Contest (20:06) ****½EMTs came out to check on both Shane and Edge. Vickie joined Stephanie on the ramp to look on in fear for Edge & Shane. We are shown several replays of the high spots of the match and both men are taken out on stretchers.
This video of Shawn Michaels shows his time as a member of DX with Triple H and Chyna.
Next, the cameras cut to a video package for the upcoming match between WWE Champion Jeff Hardy and Kane. It shows how Kane attacked Jeff on Smackdown a few weeks back and then the announcement by Vickie Guerrero that these two would meet at Backlash.WWE Championship: Jeff Hardy (c) vs. Kane w/ Paul BearerFire explodes and out comes Kane and Paul Bearer to mostly boos from the crowd. After a few seconds of waiting, Jeff Hardy’s theme music plays and he makes his way out to the loudest pop of the night so far. Jeff is sporting some very awesome facepaint tonight and doesn’t seem at all intimidated by Kane. The bell rings and they lock up but Kane’s obvious power advantage has him shove Jeff into the corner very hard. They lock up again and the same result occurs. Jeff decides to go against the collar and elbow tie up strategy and just runs at Kane and attacks him with a furious barrage of strikes. He went for a kick but Kane caught his foot and Jeff turned that into a variation of an enziguri. He continued to come at the challenger with heavy offense including a leg drop to the groin. He made a mistake when he tried for the Twist of Fate to early and Kane rammed him into the corner. This is when Kane took over the match. He began to dominate with numerous moves including a big boot, sidewalk slam and a running powerslam. Kane attempted a powerbomb but Jeff punched him a few times and broke free. He ran into the corner and nailed Kane with the Whisper in the Wind. Kane crawled into the corner, where Jeff hit his trademark dropkick there. He then covered but Kane powered out. With both men to their feet, Jeff hit his sitout jawbreaker, which sent Kane reeling backward. He hit the ropes, bounced off, and came back to grab Jeff by the throat. He lifted him up and dropped him down with a chokeslam. Jeff kicked out of the pin attempt though. Kane picked up the champion and set him up for the Tombstone, but Jeff fought it off. So Kane instead ran to the corner and dropped Jeff with snake eyes. As Jeff turned back to Kane, he was lifted and dropped with a Tombstone to end it. Winner and NEW WWE Champion: Kane (17:34) ****½The crowd was not pleased with the outcome of this match as Jeff Hardy’s storybook title run has come to an end thanks to the monster known as Kane. Kane and Paul Bearer walked up the ramp with the WWE Title in hand and hopefully Kane’s title run can last more than a day this time around. We now cut to the back where World Champion Randy Orton is shown talking with Legacy. He tells them that tonight he wants to prove that he doesn’t need them to beat John Cena. He wants to prove once and for all that he is better than Cena.
The next Shawn Michaels video shows his return in 2002 and his rivalry with Triple H. It ends with his World Title win at the Elimination Chamber.
We are now shown a video package highlighting John Cena and Randy Orton’s feud over the last few months. The video especially highlights Orton’s World Title win at WrestleMania thanks to help from Cody Rhodes & Ted Dibiase Jr. World Heavyweight Championship: Randy Orton (c) vs. John CenaJohn Cena came out first to a pretty big ovation from the crowd tonight. The Champion followed and was received by a mixed reaction, but mostly boos. This match started out pretty fast as both men attempted to hit their finishers out of the gate. Orton’s RKO attempt was blocked as Cena pushed him to the ropes, and when he came back, Cena put him on his shoulders for the FU, but Orton elbowed his way out. Orton came back at him with a European Uppercut and took control from there on and wore down Cena. After a few minutes of that, he whipped him off the ropes and connected with a picture perfect dropkick, sending Cena to the outside. Orton went to the outside and continued the assault, even choking Cena with the cables on the outside. He then cleared off the ECW announce table but when he turned back to Cena, Cena smashed his head into the table. Cena rolled Orton onto the table and picked him up onto his shoulders. He was going for an FU again but again, Orton fought out of it. They then traded fists until Cena leveled Orton hard enough that Orton turned and left his back to Cena. Cena then nailed the Throwback onto Orton, sending Orton face first onto the table, and Cena hit the Smackdown table back first. It took a while but both men got up and back into the ring. Cena was up first and hit a big shoulder block, which he followed up with the five knuckle shuffle for a two count. He then hit his fisherman suplex but again only got a two count. He threw Orton to the ropes and hit a sitout hip toss. He was pumping up the crowd and once again went for the FU, yet once again Orton got out of it and hit his headlock back breaker. He covered and only got a two. Orton then stomped on every part of Cena’s body and began to stalk Cena for the RKO. He went for it and again Cena pushed him off into the turnbuckle this time. Orton stumbled out and Cena finally hit him with the FU! Instead of going for the pin, Cena locked on the STFU. Orton seemed close to tapping out, but out came Cody Rhodes and Ted Dibiase. They began to jump Cena and the referees called for the bell. Winner by Disqualification: John Cena (18:09) ****Dibiase and Rhodes continued the beat down and then Orton got up. At first he seemed mad that Legacy interfered despite him telling them not to. Then he looked at Cena’s fallen body and drilled him with a punt right to the head. Legacy stood tall as we cut to the final Shawn Michaels video package.
This final video was long one and showed the final years of his career and his classic matches with Chris Jericho at WrestleMania XIX, with Kurt Angle at 21, with Flair at XXIV and all of his matches with Triple H.Shawn Michaels’ Retirement Match: Shawn Michaels vs. Triple HTriple H came to the ring first, in his DX attire and theme music to a huge pop from the crowd. Next came Shawn Michaels, sporting the very same attire he wore at WrestleMania XII, when he won his first World Championship, to a massive ovation. He shook hands with Triple H at the start of the match and we’re on. They started out rather slow, with both men attempting to use mat work and try to outwrestle their opponent. Eventually, Triple H got the upper hand and locked Michaels in an Indian Death Lock but Michaels reached the ropes. Michaels began to get up and swept the legs of The Game and locked in his Figure Four variation, but Triple H got to the ropes. For the new few minutes both men their signature spots, with Triple H hitting the knee smash and a suplex, while Michaels nailed an inverted atomic drop and his flying forearm. After the forearm he kicked up and began to tune up the band and he surprisingly hit it. He covered, yet only got a two count to the crowd’s surprise. Michaels had sort of a smirk on his face, but continued to go to work. He hit HHH with a slingshot that sent him into the corner and as he came out, Michaels nailed his old finisher, the Teardrop suplex and again only got a two. He once again tuned up the band, but Triple H caught his foot this time, spun him around and hit him with a big clothesline. He sent Michaels off the ropes and connected with a big spinebuster. He taunted to the crowd and set up for the Pedigree but Michaels flipped him over and bridged for a cover but again only got a two count. Triple H went for another clothesline but Michaels caught his arm and locked him in the Crossface, yet he got to the ropes again. Triple H was still down and Michaels climbed to the top for his patented elbow drop, but Triple H moved. He then nailed the Pedigree once Michaels got up and covered for another surprising two count. Triple H sent Michaels off the ropes and locked in a sleeper hold, but Michaels dropped down into a modified Stunner. Triple H fell back to the ropes and when he bounced back, Shawn Michaels connected with the Sweet Chin Music for the final time as he covered for the victory. Winner: Shawn Michaels (22:24) ****½After they regained some of their strength, both Michaels and Triple H got up and hugged in the middle of the ring. Then, the locker room began to empty out and pretty much everybody came out to pay their respects. Most of the main faces got in the ring to join, like CM Punk, John Cena, Jeff and Matt Hardy, Kofi Kingston, Rey Mysterio and even the Big Show was there in street clothes. Cena and Triple H put Michaels up on their shoulders as he waved goodbye to the fans. Suddenly a loud “WOOO!” is heard as Ric Flair makes his way to the ring to everybody’s surprise. He gets in the ring and hugs Michaels. The final shot of the night is Shawn Michaels doing his signature pose in the middle of the ring with tears in his eyes.© WWE 2009 [/center]

Backlash was written up fantasticly, Kev.
- Great way to kick off the show, it made sense for Jericho to go over. - Same could be said for the second match, the right person went over. - New Diva's Champion! Awesome to see Gail win the belt. - Awesome segment with the Brood - Benjamin winning the triple threat, I feel that the winner of Money in the Bank shouldn't lose the briefcase. - Thank god, Burke retained the title. Give him a good reign please. - Kane/Hardy sounded great and I'm surprised Kane got the win, here's hope he gets a good reign. - McMahon vs Edge sounded awesome, the finish was fantastic. I see a final encounter at Judgment Day happening. - Orton/Cena always entertained me so I'm sure I'd of like this match as well. The finish was good though, keeping the title on Randy while not making Cena look weak. - The right match main evented in my opinion. The whole write up was fantastic and clearly the right man won. Loved Ric Flair coming out after the bell, but here's hoping Michaels becomes a GM or something.

- Jericho beating Rey works for me. Good opener. - Would have liked to see JBL pick up the win over Punk. - I will completely mark out if Benjamin wins a heavyweight title. - Hell yeah, Burke needs a long title run. - The bump to bend the last man standing match sounded sick. A good way to continue the feud. - I really like Kane winning strap. Hopefully he holds it for longer than 24 hours. - Cheap way to retain by Orton. Though, it keeps Cena on the chase to get the belt. Hopefully he doesnt get it. - HBK/HHH was pretty darn good. I'm mixed on it being the main event, as i feel the top title should always be the main focus. Nice touch with Flair coming down at the end of the show. - Pretty good show, man.

Good match between Jericho & Mysterio. Glad Jericho won and I hope he receives a good push after this win. Mysterio really needs a tag team partner or something since he needs something to make him a bit more interesting.
This new Brood is interesting and i hope to see Kevin Thorn taking on Elijah Burke soon.
Punk winning is good. Even though you have just finished a retirement with HBK I think JBL also needs to go. He cant have a really good match anymore and there is nothing left for him to do.
Natalya v Kim sounded good and I liked Kim winning the Diva Title. I am glad you are pushing women that can wrestle and I hope to see more from these two in the future.
Enjoyed the Triple Threat and Benjamin winning is good. Benjamin with MITB works well and I cant wait to see him cash it in. Hopefully later in the year he will be ready and can win the title.
Glad Burke is still ECW Champ. Maybe its time for the Hardy v Hardy feud if Matt get drafted to Smackdown or something. Burke I hope moves on to feud with The Brood although maybe add in a face to make it work a bit better.
Last Man Standing match was good. Great spot to end the match. Surprised you went with McMahon/Edge to begin with since it could have worked as the final encounter between them. Both men unable to win worked well and look forward to the next chapter between them two.
Wow amazing win for Kane. I am glad to see Kane become Champion again, he definitely deserves it. Good way to end Jeff's reign and maybe he can have another later on in the year. Kane better have a longer reign than 1 day or bad things shall happen.
When I first read it I was shocked to see Cena end Orton's reign so quickly but then read it again and realized it was DQ. Glad Cena won and Orton retained it keeps Cena strong and hopefully he can continue on the hunt for the title. Legacy standing tall was good to put them over as a dominant group. Hope Legacy continue to dominate Raw.
HBK's retirement being the main event makes sense although i usually prefer the World Title in the main event. Great match to end Shawn's career. Glad Michaels got the win and loved the ending with the whole roster coming out. Also Ric Flair showing up to pay his respects worked well. Sad to see HBK go.
Overall really good show. All the outcomes were good decisions and it was well written. Good to see this diary still going strong and I hope it gets added to the Hall of Fame sometime this year.

You must put loads of effeort into these PPVs, its amazing, the graphics just look so damn cool, glad Y2J won maybe a shot at the next PPV towards the title, don't like the Brood being on ECW and bin Gangrel have Thorn kick him out, the HBK build up is a great idea, glad Punk won JBL needs to retire now I think, the McM thing was cool nice build up, M&M whoo, more HBK build up nice choices, so glad you still had Benj keep the breifcase, can't wait till he cashes, don't like Burke in ECW title match, Hardy needs to be heel, Shane wan then how can you stop the count? Kane champ? not liking that, nice ending, keep this up, good luck

Jericho/Rey made sense as an opener, Jericho winning was the right call. A Thorn title push would be cool but I can't see him as world champ at this point. Punk winning was fine, hope their stuff continues. Gail as champ is better. I know you like her, but I feel like Natalya doesn't have that much personality. SHelton winning was good; like the tease that it could happen tonight. Burke/Hardy has been a good feud, hope it's over now. I see Matt moving when you have a draft. Cool ending to Edge/Shane. Like how each men had women coming out, feared for their safety. Wow, didn't see Kane winning the belt at all. The only reason I dislike it is because he lost last PPV. But I like it because he has been built up well in your diary as a monster again, and now he'll finally be champ for more than a day unless there's a SD house show tomorrow, lol. A DQ made sense to keep the feud going, as there was already one title change. HBK/HHH was a great way to close the show, loved all the wrestlers coming out. While I'd love to see it last, I feel like the WWE wouldn't put it on last. But besides that, good show, very well booked. I enjoyed it much more than Mania, actually.

Raw 4/27/09 Preview-Tonight's huge 3 hour edition of Raw will be special because it will feature the 2009 WWE Draft! All three shows will be in attendance. The show will feature nine matches. Three Raw vs. Smackdown, three Smackdown vs. ECW and three Raw vs. ECW, giving each show a fair shot at picks. Who will be drafted where? What additions will be made to Raw? What subtractions for that matter? -Last night at Backlash, Randy Orton retained the World Heavyweight Title, when he lost to John Cena by disqualification after Legacy jumped him. He received a vicious punt to his head and will not be in action tonight or for the next few weeks. What does Legacy have in store for tonight? What if one of their members gets drafted away from the others? -Plus last night, Rey Mysterio failed in an attempt to extract revenge for his friend Batista as he lost to Chris Jericho. CM Punk defeated JBL as well and hopefully he has gotten that monkey off of his back. Now any of those four men can be moving in the draft. Will any of them move? Will all of them move? There's only one way to get all of these answers and more and that's to tune into Raw tonight at 9:00PM on the USA Network!

April 27th, 2009 Madison Square Garden in New York, New York Attendance: 20,672
Tonight’s special 3 hour draft edition of Raw kicks off with a video package showing the events of Backlash last night. It shows Randy Orton retaining the World Championship by DQ against John Cena. Next it showed Elijah Burke retain the ECW Title against Matt Hardy and it ends by showing Kane win the WWE Title from Jeff Hardy.
All three announce teams are in attendance tonight for the huge draft and every match tonight will be interbrand, including three tag team matches. The cameras then cut backstage to the General Managers office where we see Vince McMahon, Stephanie McMahon, Teddy Long and Vickie Guerrero. Shane McMahon is not in attendance due to last night’s Last Man Standing match. For that matter, Edge is also not in the arena. The GMs just talk about how they each think that their show will be the best show after tonight. Vince and Stephanie tell Vickie that they’re about to open the show by getting their first draft pick.
Non-Title Singles Match CM Punk vs. United States Champion The Brian Kendrick w/ Ezekiel Jackson
The wrestling portion of Raw opened with a fantastic match as these two great workers went at it. Kendrick attempted to use his high flying ability but Punk did his best to keep him grounded. He managed to take control of the match and use his great ability to work on the mat to his advantage. Eventually Kendrick managed to get to the top rope and nail a missile dropkick but Punk kicked out. After some more action, Kendrick went for The Kendrick, but Punk reversed it and caught him on his shoulders and hit the Go 2 Sleep.
Winner: CM Punk (7:33) ***½
Punk celebrated his victory and the titantron showed the Smackdown and ECW rosters and the screen flashed over their faces. Next it showed random superstars from those two brands and finally it flashed Raw’s first draft pick. The pick is none other than “The Game” Triple H!!!
Triple H makes his way out to the entrance to a major pop from the crowd. Punk looks on with a smile on his face. He leaves and Triple H begins to walk to the ring as we head to commercial.
Commercial Break.
As we return, Triple H is in the ring with a microphone in his hand. He begins to talk about how he lost the WWE Championship back at Survivor Series. Then he failed to regain it at Armageddon. Then he got side tracked and got into a rivalry with Umaga. Next, he mentions that another month went by that he didn’t get back into the title picture because he accepted the chance to be in his best friend’s final match. His face then changes and he seems to become very angry. He says that all of that is over now. Today he realized why he hasn’t held the WWE Title since November, and it’s because he’s been trying to do everything that the people want. He said that he’s a twelve time Champion and the majority of those title victories have come when he wasn’t listening to what the fans wanted. This draws major heat from the crowd. He says that he’s back on Raw, where he’s had his most success and he will once again dominate and it starts by him proving that he’s THE top pick of the draft. So he challenges Raw’s next draft pick to a match at Judgment Day, to show who the top new guy on Raw is.
Commercial Break.
Tag Team Match Jesse & Festus vs. Hade Vansen & Tyler Black w/ Kevin Thorn & Gangrel
The crowd was surprisingly getting behind The Brood and not Jesse and Festus in this match. Either Jesse & Festus aren’t that popular, or once again, The Brood is becoming popular. Also, even with Festus’ out of control rage at the start of a match, Black & Vansen handled themselves very well and dominated this one. After Vansen nailed Festus with a double stomp off the top, Jesse was left alone and Black took advantage by hitting him with a turnbuckle powerbomb, followed that up with a superkick and then ended it with a reverse brain buster that he calls “Paroxysm”.
Winners: Hade Vansen and Tyler Black (5:19) **
The announcers put over how impressive The Brood looked here and they looked on as ECW received its first draft pick of the night. ECW’s first pick turns out to be the promising, Mr. Kennedy! Kennedy comes out to the stage and has a microphone in hand. He says that people have always expected big things from him and he hasn’t delivered on that just yet, but ECW is where his fresh start will happen and he promises that your next ECW Champion’s name will be MR. KENNEDY…KENNEDY!!!
We cut to the back where Teddy Long looks very pleased with his brand’s pick while Vickie looks very upset that Smackdown has started 0-2 tonight. Then we cut to see Matt Hardy and Tommy Dreamer in the back. Dreamer tells Matt that he needs his help against The Brood. He says that they plan on taking over ECW and he can’t let that happen because ECW is his home. Matt says that he’ll help because ECW is where he too, has felt more at than anywhere else. He promises to help Dreamer, but he can only do it if he stays on ECW during the draft.
Commercial Break.
In the back, we see Elijah Burke getting prepared. There’s a knock on the door and in steps Mr. Kennedy. They get face to face and Burke says that he heard what Kennedy said out there and there is no way that he’s taking the ECW Title away from him. Kennedy smirks and says “watch me” before leaving.
World Tag Team Championship John Morrison & The Miz (c) vs. The Technicians w/ Kelly Kelly
This match was doubly important as the winners would leave as Tag Team Champions and they’d win a draft pick for their respective show. Onto the match, these two teams put on a great show with this match being just below their encounter at No Way Out a few months back. Morrison and Noble stole the show here as their in ring time together was just awesome. After a lot of back and forth action, Haas locked Morrison into the Haas of Pain, but Morrison rolled out of it and flipped over Haas in a pin attempt but he kicked out. Both men tagged out and Miz struck first. He threw Noble into the corner and went for his trademark clothesline, but Noble moved out of the way. Haas grabbed Miz and hit him with a German suplex while Noble tossed Morrison to the outside. Noble then picked up Miz and dropped him with a Tiger Drive to win the Titles.
Winners and NEW World Tag Team Champions: The Technicians (9:26) ***¼
The new Champions celebrated with their Titles as Morrison pulled Miz out of the ring and looked upset. The titantron then showed Raw’s second pick in the draft and it turns out to be a man that everybody feels is a future star, Montel Vontavious Porter, MVP! MVP comes to the stage and taunts to the crowd but he’s suddenly attacked from behind by Triple H. Triple H screams at him and says that he’s the top dog on Raw and nobody else. The announcers do say that if Triple H’s challenge to Raw’s second draft pick, who we now know is MVP, is accepted, then it’s going to be Triple H vs. MVP at Judgment Day!
Commercial Break.
Singles Match Rey Mysterio vs. Umaga
Smackdown was in dire need of their first draft pick of the night and Mysterio made sure he did his best to keep them off the board. As always, despite being a size disadvantage, Mysterio made sure he put up a great fight and didn’t give in to Umaga. After Umaga dominated the early portions, Mysterio made a comeback and was even setting up for the 619. Umaga got up from his position on the second rope quickly though and nailed Mysterio with the Samoan Spike as he came off the ropes. He covered and got the three.
Winner: Umaga (6:28) **½
The crowd and Umaga both look at the titantron to see Smackdown’s first draft pick. It turns out to be a major pick as Smackdown selects the “Straight Edge Superstar” CM Punk! Punk comes to the stage and taunts with the crowd, which erupted when he was announced as the pick.
We now cut to the back where we see Cody Rhodes and Ted Dibiase Jr. talking. They agree with each other that they need to stop hiding in Randy Orton’s shadow and that they need to go out and show that they’re going to be superstars in their own right. Rhodes mentions something about bringing in a new recruit to Legacy. Dibiase cuts him off and sees Katie Lea Burchill walking by. He turns to Rhodes and tells him that he should go after the Intercontinental Title. Rhodes agrees that it’s a great idea and they keep talking as they leave.
Commercial Break.
Singles Match Matt Hardy vs. Shelton Benjamin
Whoever won this match would get their respective brand a second pick tonight, tying them with Raw for the most so far. Both men came out aggressive and put on a very good contest as you would expect from these two. Benjamin seemed very confident throughout the match but Matt stayed one step ahead of him. In the end, Benjamin was setting up for the Shell Bomb in the corner, but Matt flipped over and beat him with a sunset flip.
Winner: Matt Hardy (6:00) ***
Benjamin looked very upset at how he lost the match and Matt got his arm raised by the official. He looked at the titantron and watched as one of his best friends, Hurricane Helms was drafted to ECW. Matt met him up the ramp and hugged him as we went to commercial.
Commercial Break.
In the back we see the General Managers and Teddy Long looked very happy with his picks so far, while Vickie Guerrero is on the phone, with Edge apparently, saying how happy she was to get rid of Triple H. Vince McMahon tells Teddy and Vickie to pay attention because this next match involves their brands. Suddenly, MVP comes into the office, holding his neck, and tells Vince & Stephanie that he wants to accept Triple H’s challenge for Judgment Day. He wants to show Triple H that he’s the true MVP of tonight’s draft. The McMahons like the idea and book the match.
Non-Title Tag Team Match WWE Tag Team Champions The New Hart Foundation w/ Natalya Neidhart vs. The Second City Saints
These two teams turned in a great tag match, as they’re both very good in the ring. The Saints had control in the early stages but the Hart Foundation ended up taking control and cutting the ring in half. Eventually though, Smith dropped Steel with a brain buster to give the Hart Foundation another victory.
Winners: WWE Tag Team Champions The New Hart Foundation (4:34) **¼
The WWE Tag Team Champions look on as Smackdown’s second draft pick is set to be announced. It turns out to be a major pick as Smackdown picks up the 2008 SuperStar of the Year, Chris Jericho! Jericho comes to the stage and cuts a short promo about how he plans on dominating on his new brand and proving to everybody that he truly is the best wrestler in the world.
Commercial Break.
Non-Title Singles Match Intercontinental Champion Paul Burchill w/ Katie Lea vs. Evan Bourne
It’s very possible that this could be considered the match of the night. Both of these men worked their butts off and it showed. Burchill’s power game meshed well with Bourne’s high flying high octane offense. Bourne thought he had the win after hitting the double knee drop off the top but he only got a two. He went to the top for the Shooting Star Press but Katie Lea pulled his leg and he fell to the ground, where Burchill picked him up and hit the C4.
Winner: Intercontinental Champion Paul Burchill (6:49) ***½
The crowd mentions that Bourne gave Burchill a very tough test, but everyone is sidetracked when we get the news that Burchill won Raw’s biggest pick of the night, as they got the new WWE Champion, Kane! Kane’s fire goes off on the stage, but he doesn’t come out. The crowd and announcers are shocked at this draft pick.
Commercial Break.
Vickie Guerrero is pissed off backstage at the fact that Smackdown no longer has their WWE Champion and she knows that Smackdown’s fate rests in the hands of Jeff Hardy, who is Smackdown’s representative in their only match left. She then argues with Vince and Stephanie about it and they finally come to an agreement. They make Jeff Hardy’s match with Randy Orton later tonight, a World Title match. If Jeff wins, he can take the World Title to Smackdown and Vickie will have to deal with him as Champion again. Vickie doesn’t like that idea, but agrees.
Non-Title Singles Match ECW Champion Elijah Burke vs. Kofi Kingston
This first time ever match proved to be very competitive and was also a candidate to be a show stealer, but it didn’t get enough time. It looks like Kofi could use a change of scenery as he hasn’t had much success lately on the Raw brand. Anyway, despite Kofi having some chances to pick up an upset, Burke never lost full control and ended it with the Elijah Experience.
Winner: ECW Champion Elijah Burke (5:06) ***
Burke gets a microphone before they show the draft pick and says that it doesn’t matter who ECW drafts, because he’s going to stay as ECW Champion for a very long time. The draft pick is then shown and it’s none other than Raw’s Rey Mysterio, who gets a loud pop. He comes out and taunts with the crowd and points to Burke motioning that he wants the title.
We now see Jeff Hardy and World Champion Randy Orton walking to the ring on a split screen. The main event is next!
Commercial Break.
World Heavyweight Championship Jeff Hardy vs. World Heavyweight Champion Randy Orton w/ Ted Dibiase Jr. & Cody Rhodes
These two turned in a stellar main event, much like their great match at the 2008 Royal Rumble. Orton made sure the match started slowly as he worked over Jeff with some rest holds. Jeff worked his way out of it and hit his big dropkick in the corner and followed that up with a sitout jawbreaker. He only got a two count though, and then hit a leg drop onto Orton. He went to whip Orton into the corner, but he reversed it and nailed his headlock backbreaker move. After a little more action, Jeff looked to be on the verge of victory. He hit the Whisper in the Winds and went to the top for the Swanton Bomb, but Orton moved out of the way. He went for an RKO when Jeff got up, but he pushed him off and he hit the turnbuckle. As he came out, Jeff went for the Twist of Fate, but Orton dropped down and hit him with a low blow.
Winner by Disqualification: Jeff Hardy (9:19) ***½
Randy Orton has escaped as World Champion for the second straight night because of a DQ. Jeff looked upset at the decision, even though he was in pain. The titantron started flashing as the final draft pick of the night was going to be announced. The crowd goes wild and is shocked as Smackdown’s pick is none other than World Champion Randy Orton! Jeff begins to smile at this and Orton looks shocked and then becomes pissed off. The announcers wonder what will happen now that Raw & Smackdown have switched Champions and what will happen to Legacy now that their leader is leaving their show.

Punk/TBK is a decent match to start, HHH going to Raw makes sense since he's a big name and what not. Interesting idea there for a challenge; and HHH works better as a heel. If Kennedy is going to get pushed, ECW is a logical place. Good backstage segments there. Meh on Technicians winning, but I see M & M splitting up. Umaga over Rey sounds like a squash, and Punk seems more of a SD guy. Helms on ECW is ok; not sure if he's good enough to be a TV pick. Jericho to SD is fine. Wow, didn't see Kane to Raw at all. That could be cool for sure. Guessing Hardy will beat Orton. Rey as a top ECW guy makes sense as well. Wow, great twist there at the ending. So Orton getting DQ'd made him go to SD. The only negative to the draft was that it would be unrealistic for ECW to get as many TV picks as other brands. But I did find it really cool that you switched up the world champions.
Like R-Truth going to the top show. Zeke push maybe? Not a fan of Santino to ECW, seems like a waste for him. Bourne on a show for people to watch is good, and Morrison to SD makes sense since they lost the tag belts.
Good show, diary should get a little fresh after the draft.

The draft was a great show overall, nothing really to complain about apart from ECW maybe getting too many draft choices on TV. The World Champions switching brands was a bit of a shock, I always liked Orton on Smackdown anyway and with Kane's retro look and what not, him being the champion of Raw is great. The supplement draft was also nice, R-Truth to Raw was something I wanted to hapen in real life so here is hoping that you do something with him. MVP vs Triple H at Judgment Day is definitely original, I am hoping for a shocking MVP win but I can see Triple H coming out on top.

Alright, Backlash is up, looking forward to reading this. Awesome way to kick off Backlash on pay-per-view, I actually like Chris Jericho going over Rey Mysterio, was a great match and would actually open up a pay-per-view in my eyes. Hmm, can never see CM Punk face John Bradshaw Layfield second on a pay-per-view, the second match is usually a filler. Didn't seem too grand, Punk winning is fine however. Gail Kim winning the WWE Divas Championship from Natalya is fine, seemed impressively good. Awesome defense of Money in the Bank briefcase with Shelton Benjamin beating Mr Kennedy and Montel Vontavious Porter. Elijah Burke retaining the ECW Championship isn't too suprising to be honest. Awesome last man standing match with Edge and Shane McMahon fighting to...a draw? Interesting. Kane as WWE Champion...AMAZING. Like I've said in the past, was never a fan of you having Shawn Michaels retire at a pay-per-view like Backlash, it main eventing wouldn't happen, didn't with Ric Flair. Great closedown to the show. Emotional.
Good opening contest to the WWE Draft special edition of RAW, CM Punk beating The Brian Kendrick is a sweet opener to get RAW the first pick. Triple H being on RAW is fine and dandy. Wow, Triple H making a challenge is okay, but it shows that the next RAW guy will be some heel. ECW gaining a draft pick is good, Mr Kennedy to ECW is interesting, there he could actually win the ECW Championship in my eyes. Wow, sweet match with The Technicians [awful name] beating John Morrison and The Miz. Good, split of Miz and Morrison here, also. Montel Vontavis Porter would get crushed against Triple H. Umaga beating Rey Mysterio is awesome, got bored of Mysterio ages ago. CM Punk on SmackDown is nice to see. Matt Hardy and Shelton Benjamin had a match that should of gone longer, in my opinion. Hurricane Helms to ECW is sweet, maybe he can get somewhere, as well. Chris Jericho to SmackDown is class. Paul Burchill beating Evan Bourne is fine, again, too short for my liking. Kane on RAW is good. Maybe Randy Orton to SmackDown? I'd enjoy that. Hmm, Rey Mysterio on ECW intrigues me, giving them star power. Great main event, Orton like I expected goes to SmackDown.
