I used to remember loving wrestling. Raw, SD!, and any wrestling I can find. I didn't have to bitch or complain because I accepted WWE and didn't know any better.
Now, I honestly wish I never came on the internet.
I've tried to get out of my smarkiness. I've sat down and watched ECW and Smackdown in full the past two weeks.
Does anyone else here hate being a smark, or do you enjoy picking every little thing out of the shows.

I'm not a smark. I don't pick it all apart. Though I do hate the internet for spoiling me. I guess it's my fault though...

I wouldn't necessarily call it being a smark. Getting pissed off over little things doesn't mean you're a smark. I do especially hate when people say you're a smark if you hate Cena or you like all heels. Last I checked, we have opinions and are allowed to like whoever we want. My definition of a smark is somebody who tries to act like they know everything about the wrestling business, when in reality they know nothing, or they read internet stuff just to sound smart in a wrestling conversation. I've committed this crime before, but ever since late last year, I've tried to stay away from spoilers and stuff on the internet, and I honestly can say, I've enjoyed wrestling more again since I started doing that.

I wouldn't say I'm a smark, but I know that since I started coming here, I react a lot differently to things in wrestling then I would before I came on here.

There was a time an point when I did what people here do, where they read every story, pick the WWE apart, spoil it for themselves, are never satisfied, etc. But then I realized I was just making it unenjoyable for myself, I much rather just taking it for what it is.

I kind of hate being such a big fan of WWF in 2000 and 2001, because I constantly compare what's happening now to how awesome stuff was back then and always end up thinking "the shows today will never be that consistently solid and entertaining ever again."

The internet can ruin anything you're a fan of. I had a similiar problem when I used to hang out at Aerosmith boards all the time. You read other peoples opinions and suddenly yours start to change because you start to feel what you like is wrong. A lot of times it does seem like the only people on message boards are the people who want to do nothing but bitch and complain.
I don't want to compare this board to an Aerosmith message board though, there's a lot less bitching on this one. lol
When I first started to watch wrestling in Jan 2006 I really liked Triple H and as soon as I started browsing message boards and reading about all the backstage drama and hearing a lot of people complain about him. I definiatly don't like him as much as I did when I first started watching.

I think WWE should take measures to stop it somewhat. Make Smack Down! go live and the ratings could increase

Anyone who actually uses the term 'smark' is usually just a mark trying to sound clever.
And being a "smark" doesnt mean you sit there analyzing the matches and pointing out the flaws, it means you know how the wrestling industry works.
Picking out all the little mistakes (botchamania for example) is just being ungrateful. Sitting back and watching a match and understanding that they aren't hurting each other, but are working together to put on a show, and enjoying it, makes you a proper "smark". Even though i still stand by my opinion that anyone who openly calls them self a smark is a intellectually- disabled person trying to be cool.

I would call myself a smark, but I certainly don't pick apart Raw, SD!, & ECW while I'm watching them. If something happens that I know is lame, I'll point it out or say it quietly to myself, but for the most part, I enjoy the hell out of WWE shows. If I didn't enjoy it, there's no way I would spend money ordering the occasional PPV, buy the occasional DVD, play the game once in a while, surf the internet for WWE crap, buy memorabilia online, and spend 5 hours of my life each week watching their 3 brands, aaand spend hundreds and hundreds going to live events.

There's nothing wrong with wanting to know as much as you can about the wrestling business. Many of us will never step foot in a wrestling ring as an actual worker so talking about wrestling is pretty much all there is to do.
As for being one way or the other, I think it's natural with age that you start to learn how the wrestling business works. Obviously, a ten-year-old's opinion will differ greatly from a twenty-year-old's about what they're watching, but that's just the way it goes as a wrestling fan. I can imagine it would be pretty tough as an adult fan to sit down and pretend to act like you would when you were a kid watching wrestling.
The only kind of fans that irritate me (although, really, they shouldn't) are people that are over-the-top "smarks" that make up corny phrases to chant at live events and criticize everything and newer, older (or younger) fans that are ignorant to what's really going on and oblivious to any pro wrestling prior to when they started watching.

I hate the internet! I wish I never came to WF but it is like an addiction. The internet is what killed wrestling, imo. TBH, If internet was never invented wrestling would be amazing.

I enjoyed watching wrestling more before the internet but I don't know if I would rather be a mark compared to now.

I definitely think that the internet can ruin the fun of being a wrestling fan if you invest your time reading spoilers and dirt sheets. Appreciate the product for it is and if you can't accept it... move on. I moved on eventually when I finally realized that I was never going to be as happy as I was with WWE programming as I was years ago.

"Smarks think they know whats going on, but are way off!"

I think Raven said it best in a shoot interview i saw. "Smarks think they know whats going on, but are way off!" From my experience in the wrestling business i agree with Raven. And you guys can call it whatever you want but smarks are still marks therefore you have to be a mark to be a smark. Marks.
