its because WWE doesn't want to have to pay for any travel expenses or such that are not related to work, or if a guy decides to not show up. Also, it would make wwe have to provide healthcare for its employees. it also is to prevent unions and things like pensions (which for a guy like hogan would undoubtly be expensive). It makes a lot of sense, and from the ownership point of view its brilliant.

Also, so WWE can't be blamed for stuff such as "the Benoit situation."

I think once you appear on WWE TV you should under contract, they are profiting from your name and likeness at that point
