Does he have a fulfilling purpose in WWE anymore? In recent months he's been beaten by both John Cena and Randy Orton in a WWE championship match. It seems that lately he's just become another guy for the champion to beat, to make them look stronger. As much as he is probably one of the best to make someone look stronger because of his wrestling talent, it's also having an effect on him.
John Cena isn't a very good wrestler, he's a good advertiser of the show, and has great mic skills, but when it comes to wrestling, he's an average guy, and should no way have had the Championship for that long. Having him beat The showstopper, one of the most respected guys in the business seems unfair and I don't see how this is working with shawn at all. The Randy Orton feud should have been a good one. Before Shawn returned Orton was the top heel, a good wrestler and tower of strength. When Shawn came back, he suddenly became cowardly. Was victim to the Sweet Chin Music about 4 times, and did everything he could to get it banned. The old Orton would have been a great competitor at Survivor Series, but the cowardly one seemed like a one-sided thing all the way up to it, until the actual match. Again making HBK seem weak.
At the moment, I don't see him having another championship reign, for a while at least. He's one of the best out there, and tears the house down every night. He might not deserve a title reign, everyone will feel differently about that, but he doesn't deserve to be beaten in key matches everytime.
I really hope Ric Flair wins this match against Shawn Michaels at Wrestlemania 24. HBK should not be the guy to retire Flair now that is just my opinion. I would like to see more Flair/HBK matches after Wrestlemania so Flair can make HBK look good

Shawn's only 42. He's in the best shape he's been in since 1998. His knees and back are working, and he still delivers a killer promo, and most importantly, a 5-star match with ANYONE.
I'd say he's not in his "prime", but he's not past it. He's better than the entire WWE roster, and he's still original as hell.
HBK/Jericho (WM 19) HBK/Benoit (Showdown in the Desert) HBK/Angle (WM 21) HBK/Benjamin (Raw, 2005) HBK/Cena (Raw in London) HBK/Kennedy (Armageddon 2007) HBK/ Hardy was pretty good too
The man has alot left to offer. Another feud with The Undertaker would be godly, also a feud with The Rock would be huge. He still hasn't wrestled CM Punk yet, which will could be a MOTY if it occurs.

HBK never lost his prime. Like Ric Flair did in his 40's, HBK is only getting better with age.

yes, he's past his prime and no wrestling fan can deny it, but he is still better than the majority of the roster, but his prime was before his back injury. he just doesn't have the ability to do some of the things he did from 1996-1998. Past his prime, yes, great, yes

I think shawn michaels with a good story cud go rite to the top of the wwe again. My issue with him is his look... he looks tired he is clearly going bald, and the fake tan doesnt look good either! Maybe a fresh look, not necessarily a new gimmick just something new. He has everything else and seems to giv 110% on the big shows!

He lost his prime long ago.
That doesn't mean he still doesn't have 'it' Great performer, great entertainer, good on the mic.
Michael's was my first favorite wrestler, he always will be great in my eyes.

HBK's prime was 95-97. That being said, yes, he IS infact past his prime, however, that doesn't mean he is ANY less entertaining. Flair's prime was around 85-86, but I think his best bouts were in 88 and 89. With HBK, even though he is past his prime, he is just as good if not more entertaining in the ring now than he's ever been. He still has a lot left to offer and I'd love to see him as WWE Champ one last time since he never really got as many reigns, in my opinion, as he deserved to. what I like about HBK is that he has evolved to a more submission-oriented, aggressive mat technique.

Shawn is God. He needs to stay in that ring for a few more years. He's still going strong.

He isn't in his "prime" anymore, but God damn, he is putting on great matches these past few years, and I swear he looks younger than he is.

I agree with this statement, I mean he's The Heartbreak kid, but looks terrible, he's balding, no longer has the muscle mass he used to, and just looks worn out. Back in the 90's he was a good looking guy, but the nickname/gimmick just doesn't fit him anymore. Sort of a catch 22 situation though really as you can't really repackage him or rename him, this late in his career and expect people to accept it.

Hes awesome right now but I doubt he will ever get the popularity or the fan base that he had back in the mid 90's.

Him and Taker both can really still go. They may be older, but they realize that wrestling is an art and they both have evolved to comepensate for anything they may have lost. The last of a dying breed of wrestlers that know how to tell a story in the ring and know how to pace a match.

Is he past his prime? Sure he is. But does that mean he should stop? Hell No.
HBK can still go and go hard, he most likely could carry the company with another title reign if he was given the oppurtunity. Like most said he can still cut killer promo's, and still have 5 star matches with anyone....even Cena.
Whos the next guy your going to talk about? Cause I mean you've already done Kennedy twice and MVP and HBK? Anyone threads like this. I dont mind them but people are going to get pissy and start bitching, just a fair friendly warning.

He needs to be putting over younger guys. They had the perfect time to have Kennedy go over Michaels but they saved it for a tv show. What the hell? THey should've had Kennedy go over Michaels on a PPV not Monday Night RAW. That's pathetic. Here's a perfect example - When Kurt had all the titles in TNA they didn't have him put over "Black Machismo" Jay Lethal on iMPACT. No, they put it on PPV where it would mean something. If WWE would've have put Kennedy over Michaels on PPV that would've put Kennedy over but nooo let's do it on Monday Night RAW and make me go "Bullcrap". Perfect. Basically, Shawn needs to start putting over younger guys (along with Triple H). His whole "Sexy Boy" gimmick doesn't work anymore either

I don't think Michaels is past his prime. He is still very good. I think all he cares about now is just putting over the younger guys because he's been to "the top of the mountain" before.
