Road to Superbrawl RP: “Disciple of the Rising Sun.” (1/26)
{Wez is in the middle of a bustling street in downtown Franklin, a suburb of Milwaukee, carrying a black gym bag. He has been in Wisconsin since Wednesday, ready for the pre-Superbrawl show at the Bradley Center. He pushes his way through the crowds of frenzied shoppers and disappears down a narrow alley. As he reaches the end of the alley he comes to door of a run-down building, displaying a rusty old sign covered in Japanese writing. He pushes down on the handle and with a bit of force manages to open the decaying door. Inside he finds himself in a small hallway leading on to two large, carved oak doors. By the side of each door stands a guard. They are both Asian, dressed in martial arts clothing and carrying Manriki chains. One of them steps forward.}
Guard: What is your business here?
Wez Vendetta: I seek enlightenment.
Guard: So you wish to train here, huh?
W.V: That is the purpose of my presence.
Guard: Well, what lies ahead is going to be very challenging indeed. There’s only one way to learn the ways of the ancient martial arts and that is through gruelling, regimented training.
W.V: I bet you I could learn more here in a day than what many of you know already.
Guard: One thousand says that you cannot win a match versus the grand master?
W.V: We have ourselves a gambler. You’re on!
Guard: You may now pass. Good luck, you’ll need it!
W.V: I don’t need luck, you see I never lose.
{He pushes the two doors open and enters a vast Japanese style dojo full of people, around thirty. Everyone turns around as he enters and they continue to stare, seen as though he is a minority of one. He heads over to a small changing area in the corner of the dojo and removes his gear from his gym bag; black martial arts clothing, everyone else is wearing white. He wonders if this can get any worse. Eventually he walks back out into the training area. Nobody is paying attention to him now as they are all busy with different forms of practice. He approaches a group of six guys nearby doing light exercises and warming up with them. This began with stretching to loosen up his joints, followed by push-ups and then working over a punch bag. One of the guys mocks Wez.}
Guy: My daughter could punch that harder than you. She’s only seven years old.
{Some of the others laugh. Wez strolls over to the guy casually and head butts him in the face. The guy holds his hands to his face to stop the blood running from his nose, and hurries out of the dojo.}
W.V: Does anyone else have anything funny to say? You see no matter how much you don’t want me here it does not give you the right to stop me. You people need to learn respect.
{They are silent. He moves on to the next training group, which are practicing hand-to-hand combat. The moves take inspiration from the Aikido and Karate fighting styles. Wez asks to practice against the largest guy; A giant at well over six feet tall. He dwarfs Wez’s cruiserweight physique.}
Giant: So you wish to fight me? Bad move.
W.V: We’ll see.
{It doesn’t take long for Wez to emerge victorious. He stands over the giant much to the surprise of shocked spectators. Wez’s last training programme is the “way of the sword”, otherwise known as Kendo. He gets dressed into the protective armour called Bôgu and picks up a bamboo sword called a Shinai. He seems to enjoy weapons training and progresses well against his competition, delivering crushing strikes to his opponents. When he is done the dojo master, Kenta Yoshida, challenges Wez to a sparring match after seeing his progress throughout the day, which he accepts. Yoshida assumes a fighting stance. Wez steps forward and lunges at the dojo master, who evades the attack with an agile side-step, following up with a chop to the back of Wez’s head, which consequently drives him face-first to the ground. Wez gets up and cautiously retaliates which locks them in a furious, high speed battle. Wez clenches his teeth, refusing to back down. The fists and feet continue to fly in a very closely contested fight. Wez incorporates various martial arts he has learned with street fighting moves to create the perfect mix of agility and strength. He gradually begins to get the upper hand until he is blazing at an inhuman speed. Finally he grabs Yoshida and flings him into a wooden support post, leaving Yoshida out for the count. He lifts the fallen master and drags him through the double doors to where the guards are.}
W.V: Pay up.
{The Guard pays him one thousand Japanese Yen, valued at just fewer than ten Dollars.}
W.V: Thanks man, I’m thinking I’m going to buy me a new guitar with this.
{The guard looks puzzled. Wez walks out into the alley, blissfully unaware that his winnings would buy him little more than his next meal.}
