Not about Candi, but still about wrestling. I was out of ideas, and thought this was fresh.
A Summer’s Dream
Ugh. Baloney again. Couldn’t Jake’s mom put anything else in his sandwiches? Was her brain so in-despicably small that she couldn’t realize he hated baloney. As he did olive loaf, corned beef and turkey. Picky I know. He grunted as he ripped open the brown paper bag, tugged at the sandwich, scowling away as he chomped on the sandwich. There was a slight breeze that morning, and the flowers were in bloom. How revolting. And then she had came.
She was rather beautiful. Aloof and serene as she pattered along the bank, shoes in hand, drifting her fingers in and out of the long stems. I wanted to start a conversation, but with a girl this intelligent looking, what was I gonna say? Little old Jake. Bottom of the class. I stumbled over towards her as she sat drifting her fingers through the water.
Me: Its cold you know. I, I, I wouldn’t want you to fall in.
Darn, that wasn’t sexy.
Girl: Oh, Im alright. I grew up on a boat, so I’m used to cold water.
Me: Oh, well, ok, Just be careful anyways.
Girl: I will.
Me: You best.
I sounded like an old guy trying to reign in his mischievous grandchild.
Girl: Well wouldn’t you rescue me if I fell?
Me: I don’t know, it’s pretty cold.
Girl: ha-ha, thanks. You looked to be enjoying your sandwich over there.
Me: Yeah, ha...
Girl: Well, there’s a café over there. Feel like a coke and a croissant?
Me: Sure.
Girl: Wanna help me up.
I took her hand as she rose up. It didn’t seem like I while till I let go. In the end she jerked it away like it was contagious. I felt like turning and running, but that was the wimps way out. I stared at the ground, just to check my feet were still there and as I looked up two pools of glittering brown met mine and I melted away.
Over the weeks I and Natalie grew to like each other. We swam, rode, talked and anything else we wanted to do. I really fell in love. What a guppy eh? After about 6 weeks of romance I asked her where we were going. The answer was not too good.
Natalie: Well I don’t know where you’re going, but I’m going to Wrestling Camp soon.
Me: Oh. For how long.
Natalie: 6 months straight.
Me: But we can still see each other right?
Natalie: Well, uh, I don’t know. The nearest is Colorado, so I’m gonna have to move.
Me: WHAT?
Natalie: Calm it. I just thought this was a fun couple of weeks.
Me: Fun? You are the only person who has spoken to me in ages, except for people asking me can they copy my homework, but that’s different. I was really getting to like you.
Natalie: Huh?
Me: What?
Natalie: I have a boyfriend. I thought this relationship was strictly platonic. I haven’t led you on, so you obviously assumed wrong.
Me: Oh, gosh. But. How. What?
Natalie: Well, I got to go. Bye Jake. Catchya sometime soon. Or not, whatever.
And that was it. My only true love, didn’t love me back. Talk about Heartbreaker huh? I watched her walk off into the glorious sunset until she dissolved into the shimmering pool that burned my eyes and streamed down my face.
I had gone straight into my room that night, diving under the covers dreaming of summer and a girl with shining brown eyes, who in my dreams, took my hand, and never let go.
