VVV RP Life and Death
David sat on a chair in the dark waiting room of the hospital, he watched on as the hands on the clock slowly turned; hours passed as David grew ever more scared, frustrated and angry. He didn’t have a clue what was happening, just that they were running some tests on Jake. The door started to open and there stood a nurse of slim build who had long brown hair that came down to her shoulders.
Nurse: “Hi were still running a few more tests and may be some time so you may have to go”
David looked her in the eyes he stood up and grabbed his large black coat from a hanger in the corner, he draped it over his shoulders walking towards her he looked in to here eyes, stopped a few paces away from the door and turned.
David: “Keep good care of him”
Nurse: “We will”
David pulled open the door and walked forward, he continued to walk not turning around and trying to keep the emotions inside him from pouring out. He continued to walk until coming to the end of the stairway he walked down the stairs. About half way he stopped as a sharp pain rang through his head. David shook his head and walked down the rest of the stairs holding his head in pain. Reaching the door and walking through it, he quickly went down the corridor and stepped out into the night. The moonlight shimmered down on him and the stars seemed to litter the sky. David looked to his side and caught a glimpse of a bar, he walked towards it still holding his head in pain, the rain started to pound down onto his head. David pulled up his hood and walked towards the large door of the old bar he stepped inside pulling down his hood. He walked up to the bar.
David: “Get me a beer”
He murmured to the Bar tender.
The Bar Tender went over and grabbed a beer, he gave it to David and David gave him a five-dollar bill.
David: “Keep the change”
David sat on a stool by the bar gulping down the bitter tasting beer. Looking down into the empty glass. David banged the empty glass on the bar and then stuffed his hands in his pockets, he pulled out his wallet when suddenly a man walked in to the bar.
Man: “Get me a beer please oh and one for him”
The man said this in a deep voice while pointing towards David, the man sat down.
Man:” what are you doing here”
David: “Who are you?”
Man: “Let’s just say I’m an old friend”
The man grabbed the beers and paid for them he gave one to David.
Man: “So how’s it going?”
David: “Apart from the fact my Wife and Daughter are dead, my son is in a coma and my job is to get beaten up by people who are stronger then me, I’m pretty good”
Man: “Oh I’m sorry”
David: “You never knew don’t worry about it”
David took a sip of the beer, the unshaven man that was opposite him also lifted his glass and gulped the cool beer, the mans eyes were like fire and it seemed as if he had never had a wash.
Man: What is your actual job?
David: “I’m a wrestler”
Man: “That sounds erm… interesting”
David: “I know it’s not the most luxurious job in the world but it’s my escape route, when I wrestle I forget about what has happened to me. I just well take my frustration out on everybody else I suppose.”
The two men took another gulp of beer
David: “So whats your name?”
Man: “Steve “
David “Steve? That doesn’t ring any bells oh well”
The two men continued with their drinks until now ¾ of the glass was empty
David: “What is your job?”
Man: “I’m on the unemployment line”
David: “Sorry to here it”
Man: “well I get by”
The Man downed the rest of the drink and called over the bartender
The Man: “Can I have another beer please”
David: “This one’s on me”
David said leaning over the bar with a 5dollar bill clutched in his large hands.
The Bartender went over and grabbed a beer
Man: “Thanks Dave”
David: “My pleasure, Steve”
David downed the rest of his drink and ordered another
Man: “How long has your son been in a coma”
David: “A good two years I don’t really like to talk about it, he’s having some tests done at the moment so I won’t know whats going on until they’ve finished them”
There was an awkward silence David took another sip of his beer closely followed by Steve
Man: “I’ve got to go mate “
The man gave David a battered envelope
Man: don’t read it till 4 AM today
David: “Ok and oh thank you”
Man: “My pleasure”
The Man walked of with a smile on his face, he walked out the pub and got into his small old little blue car. He sped into the night leaving nothing but a note. David heard his phone ringing in his pocket, pulling the phone out from his pocket he flipped it open and held it to his ear.
David: “Hi who is this?”
Nurse: “Hello I’m from the Hospital we need you here urgently it’s about your son”
David: “Is he ok”
Nurse: “We need you at the Hospital now”
The woman hung up, David downed the rest of his drink and sprinted off towards the hospital, bumping into a few people on his way, he eventually got to the hospital and got into the lift, it was empty.
David: “Don’t you dare break down, like last time”
The Lift stopped for a few minutes as if taunting David, it then moved to the floor and the doors slid open. David rushed through the door and flew down the corridor. He turned to see Jake with a Nurse sitting next to him.
Nurse: “I’m afraid that your son’s health is declining rapidly, we need you to decide whether to pull the plug or not”
David walked slowly towards a chair in the waiting room flashbacks from his life now running through his mind; David sat down on the uncomfortable armchair.
Voices in David’s head: “Pull the Plug I mean what kind of father would you be I mean you abandoned your son like last time, leaving your wife to look after them while you rotted away in prison”
David: “But I’ve changed”
Voices: “Have you though Dave, have you really changed or are you the same selfish person you always were”
David: “I have changed I have proven I can be good at, well at least something and I’m going to be a good Dad”
Voices: “Look at the environment he would grow up in, you fighting, coming home late and drunk”
David: “But I’d stop all that I’d give anything to have something back”
Voices: “But would you be doing it for him or would you be doing it for yourself “
David: “But he’d be growing up with a champion he would have a life of luxury”
Voices: “You will never be a champion”
David: “Well even if I may never become a champion, Jake will always be a Champion to me and he deserves to stay alive”
Voices: “But would a champion want to be with you, look at your self you’re a low life, just give up I mean even if you don’t pull the plug Jakes never going to wake up”
David: “I suppose he wouldn’t want to live with me and even if he didn’t wake up at least there would be hope”
Voices: “But wouldn’t the hope just give you more disappointment, more pain when he dies?”
David: “Maybe so but at least in my own mind I’d know I had gave him a chance”
Voices: “You will never be a good father”
David grasped his hand into a fist and smashed it against the wall, he shook his hand in the air.
Voices: “What if you snap and do something like that to Jake”
David:” I…”
The nurse walked towards David
Nurse: “We really need an answer”
David looked at her and then caught a glimpse of the clock it was 4 AM hours had passed but David hadn’t noticed, David thought back to the Pub he took out the battered old envelope and pulled a note out it read
Keep Fighting!
David: “An old friend of mine once said to always keep fighting and that’s just what I’m going to do, don’t pull the plug”
Nurse: “Well done it’s always a difficult decision and I think you made the right one”
David: “Thank you”
David walked off down the corridor a teardrop running down his cheek David went into the lift were he was met by Steve.
Steve: “Hello”
David: “How did you know what was going to happen”
Steve: “There are some things better left unknown”
The lift stopped and Steve walked out. David looked puzzled he walked out of the lift and called for a Taxi, David went outside in the shadows and waited for the Taxi to arrive. It pulled up and David stepped in, the journey was a long one and David spent it thinking about what had happened. The Taxi arrived and David went into his house
David: “Some thing’s, are best left unknown”
David smiled and thought for a few minutes about the PPV whether he’d be in any shape to wrestle, David pulled the note out from the back pocket of his jeans and took another look at it
Keep Fighting!
David smiled again
David: “I will Steve… I will”
OOC: This is my first RP for a PPV I hope everyone enjoys it. I’m not really sure if I like it or not; there are bits I do and bits I don’t. Constructive Criticism is appreciated and good luck to everyone with a match in the coming weeks.
