I'm thinking future documentaries will have to either bury this run or gloss over it. Will it be treated how Taker's biker run was for so many years & not be spoken about or shown in highlight packages.
Given how night & day it is compared to how he has been since 2020. We must not forget how hard the company tried to push him & how much they failed. With some of the worst main events & crowd reactions of all time. Given Reigns current success it's now time to call out his singles run for what it is. One of the biggest failures of booking someone in wrestling history. Many may already hold this opinion, but let's double down now WWE has been good again since 2022 for the most part. Let's not forget how terrible 2017-2019 was.

I wouldn't call it a failure, i feel like he needed that run to be where he is at today. It gave his heel character ammo for what he does now.
I also would say it was more successful (or however you wanna put it) then Ringmaster - somewhat on par with Rocky Mavia though.
edit - To add - in the future it his run will make a great WWE Documentary

What gets me is how different he looks. I don’t think a beard and veneers can make a face change that much but who knows
It better get talked about. They need to acknowledge that they force fed the guy for years and the people weren’t ever gonna accept it that way. He turned heel and earned the fans respect over this run and that’s what’s catapulted him to where he is now.

I liked em in 012/013/014 but he started to feel forced around the end of 014/early 015.... he really was one of the worst guys they had for many years.... now he’s the best thing going on since 2020.

He’s the best thing from 2020 to 2022. There’s better talkers and better workers in the company but they don’t have the convenience of 30 minute segments with Heyman and company. Roman is surrounded by talented people who he can play off of. We’ve seen Roman as a solo act and it’s cringe. Very cringe.

I’d say he’ll be fine without Heyman/Bloodline etc

He had some great matches and was a multi-time WWE Champion……. I can't speak to the great matches part bc that's subjective but the second statement alone puts him in a league way beyond Maivia or Ringmaster.

I don't think you can compare Roman's first singles run (babyface) to Ringmaster and Rocky Maivia, When Austin and Rock came into the company they were in that IC Title slot unlike Roman was inserted into the World Title slot.

I wouldn't call it a failure, but comparing him to what he's done on this run it's literally night and day. I just think he fell short of the next Cena, so they had to change course which saved his career. No one can argue this run as Champion over the past 3 years has been one of the greatest in the company's history, and that's kudos to how Reigns has changed his persona and the way he's carried himself as champ.
To discredit the first run, Shield run aside, it actually helped him more than hindered him.

Despite the hate Reigns received he always put on great matches. We all resented his push to the moon but he delivered in the ring.
As great as he is now I must admit I miss his vest. He looks incomplete without it.

He did have a crazy successful run tho... multiple World Title wins, WM main events, beating legends, Tag Titles, IC & US Titles... he was the top guy for a good 5/6 years.

He was over when he first went solo in 2014. And I really liked rewatching that battleground fatal 4 way he was in.
They turned on him when he returned from that minor injury in Dec 2014 and the Rumble.
WWE tried to use all the strategic booking to save him. Well if they don’t like him? Let’s use Triple H as plot device. Which on paper is super smart.
And they swerved us out of WM 31 with him and I think really wanted to write this redemption arch for whole year that didn’t really stay guided.
The fans weren’t hot about the title run and wellness policy violation
And WWE over 2016-2017 would try to throw him in mid card title reign picture which fans saw it for what it was.
Beating Taker in poor match really didn’t get him to far. Shield reunion was fan but real life circumstance kind of ruined that each time.
Brock-Reigns II I think could of been very good with the story of Reigns growing as a competitor in 3 years and finally winning big one and needing to prove he can beat Brock but Brock uses WM 31 match if Rollins didn’t cash in he would of clearly won etc etc.
Fans didn’t want it and the match sucked.
Reigns worked tons of garbage post Mania feuds and I think once we saw the ball get rolling with title run real life got in the way,
By 2019 Reigns had been kept out of the main event scene To cool off
Always was great performer just WWE couldn’t find the formula right till 2020
