7/15/01 (Chicagoland)
Coming off the heels of his son's victory at the Pepsi 400, Dale Earnhardt looks to keep his momentum going. He qualifies to fourteenth place. Although, he races well, he never gains the lead, In the end, it's Tony Stewart that gets the victory at Chicagoland.
7/22/01 (New England)
It's an emotional race in New England as Kyle Petty, the son of Adam Petty starts the pole. Earnhardt takes the lead in many occasions three times, but Kyle Petty, not to be denied passes Earnhardt to get the win. In Victory Lane, Kyle Petty in tears said "This is where I lost my son, That corner right there is where I lost him. But Today, he was looking down on us. The #45 sprint worked very hard on getting this race done. Dale who felt content running second says "I'm glad that Kyle won the race, the Petty Family had lost so much in this racetrack. If anybody deserved this win today, it's Kyle"
7/29/01 (Pocono)
The last win Earnhardt took was in Pocono. But his return to Pocono is a disappointing one as he starts thirty-first. Earnhardt is able to fight back and is able to not be able to stay in the back for very long, but runs eighth place as Matt Kenseth takes the Pocono Victory.
8/5/01 (Brickyard 400)
Dale Earnhardt looks to get out of a 1-month drought to win his second Brickyard 400, he starts off strong with a tenth place in qualifying. Earnhardt is taken out of the race early due to a flat tire but returns to the middle of the race to eventually beat out Bobby Labonte and win his fifth 2001 race and his second Brickyard 400.
8/19/01 (Michigan)
Dale continues his wave of momentum after his Brickyard Victory by running fourth place. Earnhardt does get the lead for a few minutes until his car owner, Michael Waltrip takes the lead back. But it's Bobby Labonte that gets the victory and heads to Victory Road.
8/26/01 (Bristol)
Earnhardt drives in Bristol again in one of his old places he has dared to go in where he spun out Terry Labonte not once in 1995 but twice in 1999. Labonte and Earnhardt continue the old Bristol rivalry, but this time Earnhardt does not crash Labonte, and in the end it's Earnhardt's son Dale Jr. winning the Bristol race beating his father in second place. Dale once again celebrates with his son. Dale says "I can't believe my son beat me in Bristol. This is fun, Me and my Son have done well consitency in winning each other's races. I'm a proud car owner. This racetrack was mine, but tonight it belongs to my son.
9/2/01 (Darlington)
Dale Earnhardt gets the news that DEI Driver Steve Park suffered an injury, so Dale needs a temporary replacement by the end of 2001 before Park recovers. Dale Earnhardt eventually decides to hire Kenny Wallace to take over the #1 car. Earnhardt starts off in twenty-sixth place. He gets taken out in the race when he and Ricky Rudd collide into the grass. Earnhardt and Rudd get out of their cars unhurt though. Dale Jarrett wins the race at Darlington.
September 11. 2001 happens
9/23/01 (MRNA Cal Ripken 400)
The NASCAR Race returns after the 9/11 tragedy. Earnhardt is spoken about what happened in 9/11 before the start of the race and says "It's sad that what we saw in New York, Washington D.C. and all of the other countries that had to go through this ordeal. But we are back to doing what we need to do, We need to race and we need to get our mind off of this because if we can't. Then I don't know what's going to happen next, we've seen all of our guys go down in an accident, but it wasn't terrorist. No it was a Crash, when we lost Neil Bonnett, Adam Petty, Alan and Davey and all of the guys. It wasn't terrorist. It's cause they died too soon and that's what i believe all these Americans did, whether they were young or way younger, they died too young. So today, Let's race not for NASCAR, But for America". Earnhardt's son Earnhardt Jr. Wins his fourth race by passing Kurt Busch and Earnhardt comes in with an American Flag for his son so that Earnhardt Jr can wave it for the fans. The Father/Son duo do a Polish Victory Lap together.
9/30/01 (Kansas)
Earnhardt gets a strong lap as he starts off the pole in First Place. Earnhardt has the lead for 50 laps but the lead gets snatched away by Sterling Marlin. But however, in a pitstop. Earnhardt will regain the lead once again but in the final 3 laps, Jeff Gordon eventually takes the lead and wins the race.
10/7/01 (Charlotte)
Dale gets a strong showing in fifth place in the pole and has the lead for a few seconds in 38 laps, but it gets snatched by Matt Kenseth, however Earnhardt battles back in the middle of the race and eventually is able to take victory in Charlotte, his first Charlotte Victory since 1993.
